Hey Blade... I have done the update but no resetting yet. The PQ has improved a bit. It looks to me that black tones are very pure now. There is a little red color push, but nothing I would say is really affecting the picture. Maybe a tick in adjustment one way or another. Planning on a reset today sometime.

I have a couple questions about the UN55ES8000. My current TV is a PN51D8000 before that I had a Panasonic TC-P42C2. So as you can see I am only used to plasma TVs but I am by no means a fanboy and I dont mind switching to LED from plasma. My PN51D8000 broke and thankfully I had a warranty through Brandsmart. I got credited my full purchase amount, and now have a store credit for $1300 I was planning on getting the Panasonic TC-P55VT50 but according to everyone I have spoken to in Brandsmart no one store carries that model line of TV and its not even in their system. -_- So my other alternative was the UN55ES8000.

I used my PN51D8000 as my gaming tv for 2D/3D games on my xbox, ps3, and pc. I used that TV as my PC's monitor 24/7 and it did a great job as that. I watched a lot of 2D/3D movies through my PC on it and it looked great. Of course there were a lot of ghosting, which was fixed to an extent by calibrating but it was still there on certain games/movies.

My question are as follows. From what I have read through the reviews on Amazon, AVS, and CNet the ES8000 has its issues but have they been fixed via the firmware updates? Will this TV provide me with a great picture when gaming in 2D/3D, watching movies in 2D/3D, and as well when using as a monitor? How is the ghosting in 3D movies and games on this TV compared to the older models? Will my blacks and whites be as good as a plasma? I see this TV has CMR 960 and the previous line had 840, whats that lol? Last question the TV has 240hz whats the difference from 120hz? Is this like the plasma 600hz?

I wont lie I am nervous to make the switch from plasma to LED but if y'all speak highly and great about this TV I will definitely take the plunge and buy it.

I don't have an opinion to share on the different virtues or drawbacks of the two sets in comparison - but there are defintiely lots of opinions out there! I do have one opinion though: given your use cases (lots of PC monitor and streaming from a PC) and given that you've historically been happy with plasma, I would strongly encourage you to do whatever you can to see the set in person and if at all possible, to run some of your own material through it or similar material through it. Some stores will let you tweak the sets (out of store torch mode) and apply some basic settings and then run some content through. All the feedback here and elsewhere is really helpful, but giving it the ol' once over would seem to be key to making the purchase decision. That said, I have an es8000 and remain super happy with it.

Well the price difference is not that much but the 7500 is available for pickup today at two stores near me. The 8000 has to be ordered.
Seen as though you have one, can you tell me if the 7500 also has ExLink? I do require RS 232 control.

What panel version does the 55ES8000 use? TS02, US02, or other? The panel lottery is a concern with certain Samsung LEDs.

What Catt said is great info and I agree. It could be a jarring to move away from plasma so check it out first if you can. I prefer LCD, but I realize some prefer Plasma. Do you get much IR playing games on it? I only do minor gaming and don't use it as a monitor so what I'm going to tell you is from everything I've read in every post from the beginning of this thread and some of what I've read in the Sony 950 thread. The newer firmware updates have continued to improve the picture. I personally prefer the blacks on my ES compared to the Panny Plasma I use at work, but the uniformity is not as good on the ES. Meaning the edge lit LCD ED has some clouding and flashlighting, depending on your settings, this can be minimized to being a non-issue for most people. Banding can be an issue, but usually only with the 65" ES, so personally I'd stay away from it. Mine is a 60" and I love it. This past year, it's been said often that the ES has the best 3D. Someone who bought both the Sony 950 and the ES8000 decided to keep the 950 but said 3D gaming was a little better on the ES. For the record though, he never set the ES up correctly, including having Sharpness up to 50, which looks incredibly bad. Ghosting is very minimal on the ES but some have said it is more apparent with 3D gaming. Some have said that it's more apparent on the 60" ES than the others though. I'm usually very impressed with my 3D though. You'll also get a much brighter picture, which also comes in very handy for 3D with the glasses, which you'll get 4 of. You can look up CMR and 240hz and all that but I don't concern myself too much with all that and some of all that is just marketing crap when it comes down to it. I would be nervous in your situation too so I have no idea what you'll think. You'll either be thrilled or hate it. Personally, I love it. Let us know what you do and good luck!

This is my D8000 LED from 2011 that I gave to my son so I can put my 65" ES up there

Ziggy man, the E8000 plasma I have is awesome, but, its not practical for everything like what you want to use with it. I would definitely go with the LED since you use yours for gaming and a monitor.

I really want to post pics of my relatives theater in LA. Its so awesome that its unbelievable. I've never seen a theater like theirs. A few magazines wanted to do an article on it but they wouldn't let them. They are big on privacy. I would love to see Rico's reaction though eek.gif

....Eagle2, I have my FIOS on 1080i and love it. Its sharp, smooth, no lag in channel changes and definately a better pic than 720p...I tested with Fox NFL and some movies. In my non-professional opthomalogic cataract laden eyes opinion...1080i is the way to go on FIOS with this tv. I have nt turned off the box and looked for a native or direct source selection yet but i will next week and tell ya if i see it any other way...

Regarding the new FW 1046.2; I am definately going to run that update. It sounds like a winner and I have confidence in the members here that have posted detailed results. Normally I would have waited for more input but...I know a new update could potentially obscure and diminish the latest FW benefits so I think i'll run the update after the Super Bowl, reset in all modes for all inputs and then do the full system reset. I wont have time to play and tweak until tomorrow night anyway . I guess from what you all say.; either tweak from default or plug in my old preferred settings and tweak from there? Not clear on the collective opinion of that.

For tonight, cant wait to see the Super Bowl on this beast and I love the current picture so mush that I think i'll be fine. Yes, anything FW where members say that it can possibly reduce flashlighting, improve color, make letterbox bars even darker and improve viewing is a major win.

LOL! Me too Blade! I like my set to be the way "My Eyes" were intended to see it, not what the "Director" wanted. I wouldn't let my relatives see my set just for this reason. They would probably dis own me lol! they are really big on Films and all Film related stuff and every panel to them has to be exactly as the director intended. Not me though! I love That vivid, pop goes the calibration picture smile.gif

It's alright, it was my lad's christmas present for his tab but I've claimed it biggrin.gif. It syncs up well to the TV, crystal clear sound and no delay

if anyone uses the BBC iPlayer app do you see the following error message [mediasourceerror Sorry Unkown source 'there has been a problem playing this programme'] when viewing HD content. The SD version is fine but not the HD version - on Africa specifically but also others?

Can someone try it out?

Really! Mine synced up good too, but I got a lot of static. I didn't buy the one you have though. I bought the DA670 when Costco had it cheap. That thing was huge! A lot bigger than it looks..

Sometimes, I notice it from a distance also. Maybe someone else that has a plasma can say if this is dither or not. This is the only flaw I see with mine though. No buzzing, or burn in. I did have some IR at first, but it went away pretty fast and I never saw it again. I have to say with the Plasmas I have, the viewing angle is amazing. Nothing like our LEDs, and the blacks are really black, but our LEDs are very black also. Especially after this update. I like to have both though. If I had to choose only one, it would definitely be the LED.

Great pics Garnoch! This is truly how a set looks when things are not set right. Besides sharpness, doesn't contrast have something to do with as well? I know if you have a washed out pic, lowering the contrast for me really helps. Especially for off angle viewing. This is why I keep mine at around 75-90. My 60" though can take contrast at 90-100 and be good, which really shows me how different panels are.

This was the one I got for $200 on sale. I'm surprised we don't hear more people talk about using the sound share with these TVs. This is a amazing feature to have, but I don't think many people know you can have a wireless sound dock, or sound bar with these TVs

Even though these look similar to what mine looked out of the box with Sharpness up to 50, they are actually pictures of plasmas showing dithering. Interesting that you can get higher Contrast on your 60"!
