Hey guys. I'm getting the 46" ES8000 delivered from Amazon today! Can't wait! My wife and I returned the 50" GT50 Panasonic plasma and decided to go with the Samsung instead, because we really didn't feel like babysitting it. I've been following this thread for the last week or so and man you guys post so much I can hardly keep up LOL

LOL! That's for the last 5 posts..lol!

Congrats! Welcome to this awesome thread. Its become the "it" place to be! 24x7 like 7/11 lol!

Hey, good luck with your TV. Make sure you get the "Bladerunner" 1046.2 FW update before you play with the settings. It should pop right up and ask you if you want to download it when you plug it in. Just say "ok" and the magic will begin. And since it has voice control, you can really say "ok" to it! HAHA! Jk. Not yet. Maybe with the Evo kit we could do that

Totally off topic here.....

If BB is still in business eek.gif when 4K TVs hit the showroom floors, do you think they will still have the 30-60 day no questions asked exchange/return policy on these.rolleyes.gif Maybe I can be the first one to return three of these suckers for dead pixels before getting banned again.

Thats why its always better to sit back for a while and see how the panel comes for the factory .And what problems arise.I would hate to have to return a TV. What a pain.

Shark, if you like what you see, then that's all that matters. Have you played around with the Motion brightness while having the Eco sensor off yet? I think the Eco sensor is the one that saves on electricity and the "motion Brightness" is what dims the pic according to the brightness in your room. That makes sense. That's what Eco means. Like on my washer, I have a Eco setting and if I enable it, it uses less water and less washing time.

The Eco setting is also in the same area as the energy saving option where you can use low, med, or high. So, that's what I think its for. Also, if you press the info button on the long black remote, there's a dial that shows you if your using a lot of energy or not. I can't think of the correct thing its called, my brain is dead right now..lol! But it looks like the gas meter in your car. Well, when you use the Eco sensor, it brings this way down to the green area. I seriously think people are using the Eco sensor for the wrong reasons. Unless your trying to save energy. Global warming..

I know the manual or other places have a different description to the Eco sensor, but this is just what Eco means with everything now a days. Even my air conditioner has a Eco setting.
Samsung is NOT good at explaining these things at all, and I don't even go by what they say anymore and just try them myself to see for myself what they really do to the picture.

Because you shouldn't get it calibrated right away. It needs like 200 hours on it first I heard. The other thing is, say Samsung does replace it or replace the panel, you may get one that's even worse. Really, the only option right now for a 65" is to return it and wait for the F8000 to see if they fixed the banding. Or, go with the 60" like I did for my other TV.

Btw, I love the look of those Klipsch! How do they sound though? Are they good for a large room?

I have had the tv for a week i bough it from work. i work at harvey norman here in AUS, Yeah iam afraid i might get one thats worse, So not to sure what to do

Is there away i can find out how many hours my tv has been on ?

I didn't realize that you were our of the states. I love Harvey Norman btw..

Don't they give you 30 days to return? The only way you can find out now many hours is to go into the service menu and I cannot stress this enough to DO NOT do it! Its not worth bricking your brand new $3K TV! I had one of my 2011 D8000 repaired recently and I asked the tech to check the hours because I was so curious since my TV became defective and it was barely used. The tech said that usually the newer models don't have this like the older ones. He did go into the menu though to look, and said he couldn't find it. I can't imagine that there's no way to find this out, so thought he could be lying to me. Idk.. Maybe he's right and the newer models really don't have a way. Why do you want to check this anyways?
Just whatever you do, don't go into that menu. Samsung will know of you did and your set won't be covered under warranty anymore.
Anthony, would you agree that the full reset in the bottom menu section functions just as off you did a reset from each inputs picture settings ?

You lost me there blade. Do you mean, do I think they function the same? Meaning maybe you don't have to do a full reset and just reset each picture settings?
Yes, exactly. When I updated, I did a picture menu reset for each HDMI source and then tweaked.

I was aware of the reset option available further down in the system menu but...i think that does the same thing but for all inputs at once.

I was wondering the same thing. I ended up doing both..lol! Its ridiculous that Samsung doesn't tell is these things. This very well may be true blade. It makes sense..

I think the main thing is to reset all modes back to default so you can start from scratch and use your own settings that work with your lighting conditions and panel. Its not hard either because Samsung did a great job I think at getting the defaults to where its really easy now to tweak them.

Is there a way for you to pay out of pocket for a second set, keep both and compare and send the lesser of the two back? I know it's not the most fiscally sound thing to do, but at least you can compare both sets head to head and keep the one you like best and get refunded the money for the one you send back.

Good idea Cmay.. Maybe The manager at your job at Harvey Norman will let you take another one home without having to pay for it, maybe just do a pre authorization on your credit card without actually charging it just for their security so they know you won't run off with their precious banding TV?

What I mean to say is that the ECO Sensor feature appears to be working. You were suggesting that it is no longer working in the latest firmware.

Oh, Sorry about that man.. What I meant to say was, the Eco sensor seems to be not working good with the Motion Brightness enabled and seems to be only to dim the backlight to save on energy, where the Motion Brightness seems to be dimming everything according to the lighting in the room, or maybe even dimming certain areas of the screen? I can't pin point it yet, but it's making my blacks levels, very very inky..

These just came in. Still can't believe I paid only $300 for them. Very curious now how they are going to sound

Thanks buddy,, aw! I love the ones you have. I haven't heard them, but I LOVE how they look. I almost bought them on Amazon when they had them on sale for $1,500. Then they went back up to $2K. I remember seeing them and sending the pics to Garnoch to see what he thinks of them.

Amazon still has these model 7's for only $300 regularly $$1,200

Would you say that the 8000 looks a lot better then the 7500 now after this update?
First forgive me, I'm typing on a phone because Internet is down.

Okay, so OCD Garnoch had to do a bunch of Eco Sensor/Motion Lighting tests tonight. Because Motion Lighting is supposedly enabled by motion and because I needed a lot of black on the screen, I decided to use the Apple TV. Also, this way I could use either the static main page or go to an album folder and see the album covers rotating across the left side of the screen. First I turned Eco off and went to the static front page, and Motion Lighting did nothing. Then I went to the moving albums page and Motion lighting dimmed the backlight. The I did the same tests with Eco on with the same results. Because a Motion Lighting worked on top of Eco though, the moving screen got a little too dark, so I bumped up Eco to compensate. By doing they though, the static page was now too bright because Motion Lighting wasn't effecting it.

So......
Eco Sensor dims the backlight based on ambient light. This can be turned on in Movie mode.
Motion Lighting dims the backlight based on any motion on the screen, not just fast motion, though I'm not sure if it is more drastic with faster motion. This can not be turned on I'm Movie mode.
CE Dimming dims the backlight when already dim scenes are in a program. This is on automatically on iin all basic modes except Movie mode.

In all three cases, the same effect would happen if you could manually adjust your backlight on the fly. smile.gif

I actually liked Motion Lighting but not as much when used with Eco. I'll probably stick with Eco though because of the changing lighting conditions in my house. I can see it being helpful in a man cave with constant ambient light though. Then again, because the screen really is always moving, just turning your backlight down may be more beneficial and use less processing, possibly creating less lag. Now that wouldn't be true though if Motion Lighting was also adding more to the supposed Micro Dimming on top of lowering the backlight. Who knows. In the past, I think I've only tested it on paused screens though so it's nice to see it does actually work.

The Garnoch has spoken smile.gif

Well said Garnoch. So...fw 1046.2..wow wow wow...came home, tuned into hockey...amazing color and detail....and I simply cannot believe a fw resolved all flashlights...amazing. Sharper, better color, deeper blacks and zero flashlight... Is this an Elite in the 8000 skin? Can't wait to test 3d tonight. Avengers and Avatar will tell the truth.
