Compared to the more expensive ES7100,7500,8000 - how do the Samsung ES6500 models compare in respect to the v-shape clouding issue, and general flashlighting/clouding on mostly black images viewed in the dark?
I'm seeing some good sale prices this week on ES6500 models and they have a new 50" size that saves a couple hundred over the 55" size.
I saw Best Buy also has an exclusive ES6900 model (also available in 50" and 55") that seems to be in between the ES6500 and ES7100, with another type of micro-dimming and adds the Skype camera.

On the display models in the Best Buy store, I didn't notice any difference in the picture quality between those models and they had an ES6500,ES7100, and ES7500 all right next to each other on the wall showing the exact same video content demo.

I would at least go with a 7100 (7500 if you can swing it) Never ever go by the picture you see in the store. They are all on torch mode with blown out colors and brightness at max. Micro-Dimming makes a world of difference. I would not recommend anything under Micro-Dimming pro (7500) I first had the 7500 and I was blown away by the picture I was seeing. I then upgraded to the ES8000 and I notices right off the bat watching Bolt with my daughter that the colors and black levels were much ricer and vibrant due to the Micro-Dimming Ultimate. Keep in mind these sets really shine when you calibrate them. I would recommend Nitra's settings on page 36.

As far as the V-Shaped stuff and clouding, it really comes down to the "Lottery" game. I've seen sets with super bad clouding to mild clouding to hardly none at all. I got lucky with my second ES8000 and the clouding is virtually non existent, even with the back light set to 20. I was really shocked to see this and I have no V shaped clouding by the logo ( I did see it on my first ES8000 though)

One thing I did with my second ES8000 was I did not lay the panel down on the screen to put the stand on. I've been hearing a lot of people say when laying the panel down on the screen it can cause more clouding etc. So maybe that's why my second ES8000 was pretty much flawless.

Trading in my 65VT50 today for the 60ES8000. I didnt have any issues with buzzing with the VT50 and picture looked really good, brightness wasnt an issue but seemed to be lacking something for me. It didnt seem sharp enough or bright enough with my bright living room. Kept going back to BB to see both displays with a BR live concert DVD. The ES just seemed to me an overall better picture. Any advice on what settings to change during the breakin period or should I used the calibration settings from page 36?
The calibration settings are fine to use from day 1.

Let us know your thoughts of the comparisons of both pictures once you have your es8000 setup. I have seen a vt50 and liked it for its black level, uniformity, and color but I think I would appreciate a little brighter image from the es8000. I know there are compromises in both and since you will have had both I would love to hear your observations.

Thanks,
Mike

IMO, what sets the Samsungs apart from even other LCD manufacturers is their Clear Panel Technology. It does add nice clarity to the image you don't get from others. They do however sacrifice in other areas but in the current state of FP technology offerings, sacrifices are a part of ones purchasing decision.

I'm sorry, the current 65" "D" series does not have the "one design" bezel. The upcoming 65 "ES" will incorporate the slim bezel.
Sorry, mistake on my part.

Well, I received my 2nd TV from Amazon. The first one, even after calibrating and using settings from this thread (thanks again, nitra - the eco senso on did help reduce the visibility of the clouding and flashlighting) had really bad clouding and flashlighting. The second set is better but still has what I consider bad clouding and flashlighting, especially on the top and bottom left corners.

I'm trying to keep my expectations in check, but it's hard not to demand as close to perfection as possible when you've been anticipating the big new TV purchase for so long. I'll have to mull it over for a few days and see if my opinion evolves.

Can you post pics? I've been seeing this on my tv and would like to compare.

How was your experience with returning a set thru Amazon that had been used out of the box?
Did they charge any restocking fee (like some dealers do for any opened returned TV) or did you get a 100% refund?
Though if you just did an exchange rather than a refund, it might be a different story.

First impression was why did I switch without even turning on the TV. Set everything up and started to watch golf was the first things I wanted to see for motion. Right away it got worse for me, im not sure if its lag or really bad motion blur but when someone swung the club or after the ball hit the fairway there was a lot blur. Tried adjusting some settings but mostly back and forth with the motion settings and LED Motion Plus. I was thinking to myself what im I going to see when I watch some football. I got it to look a little better but still saw things I didnt want to see. I have an older 2008 LCD and it doesnt look this bad. Didnt have much time to start making the calibration adjustments from page 36 before we watched a movie. So, put in Devil inside me movie SD (Sucked) and already noticed all four corners have a lot of light puring onto the screen which I was hoping wouldnt be there but from everyones feedback knew they might be. Not only was there light in all four corners but even in after the credits there was spots of white light coming from the whole screen when it was fully black, is this clouding? Turned the backlighting from 15- down to 7 and didnt make a difference. Before going to bed watched my little girl play Black Ops but didnt notice any lag or motion blur during gaming, couldnt find Game mode? Overall picture was sharper for me over the VT50 (Watched the Matrix - Morphious close up looked really good so I had hope) or maybe apeared that way due to the brightness. The VT50 still wasnt that bad of brightness in THX Bright Rm compared to the ES8000. Watched some 3D tv with the same glasses, (cheap $20 Samsung glasses) picture seemed to have more of a 3D effect to me (more depth) again maybe from the added brightness but had more crosswalk than the VT50. Watched TV for around 5 hours but after I get off of work I will be trying different settings or adjustments. What im missing from the VT50 - Size, better motion handling, better blacks which I didnt think would be an issue or cared about since ive been reading the gap had narrowed between LED/Plasma, and glare from the screen. I didnt think the glare would be worse but the ES8000's screen had more. I choose the ES8000 over other LED's for the size and price range. I have a fairly light living room with a wall of windows and thats why I thought the ES8000 would shine. Im not giving up on this TV but was hoping for the best. Maybe I just got a really bad set?

Ok, before I go and have yet another TV replaced, please tell me if my expectations are beyond the TVs limitations. Below are 4 pics of my just delivered 55es7500. I feel it is a damage light tube beyond normal circumstances and sitting anything beyond 10 degrees at an angle and I am graced with a 1" x 1" bright light bleed spot. Does everyone experience this kind of issue with their sets viewing even the slightest bit off angle, or am I right to say it is damaged?

I would say that's a defect. My set doesn't look like that.

Thanks for your observations. I know the clouding/flashlighting can vary from set to set and that nitra's settings can help. How much brighter did the es8000 seem than the vt50? I think that is my main concern.

Thanks again for opinions,
Mike

How did you get amazon to price match it? East coast tv is not even on their list of sites they will price match too? I tried to call but they keep saying no they can't price match it.

I didn't get a price match from East Coast TV. It was one of the 12 that they do price match.
At the time CWD (i think that is there name) had it for $2799. So Amazon gave me back over $200 smile.gif

Just an FYI. Samsung has a UPP going on which means essentially they've fixed their price. All of their authorized dealers must sell the UPP sets for the same price. The caveat is anyone who sells it less than the UPP price is most likely not an authorized dealer.I suggest you double check to make sure if you're not paying the standard price. Samsung has been known to void warranties when their sets were purchased from unauthorized dealers.

I exchanged the first TV. Amazon delivery process was very nice. A delivery service brought the TV into my apartment, unboxed it, plugged it in and had me verify it was working. My room with the TV is too bright during the day, so I couldn't see the clouding.

Returning it was super easy. I called Amazon to have it exchanged. I explained why and Amazon set everything up. The delivery service called me up to schedule delivery of the second TV. No restocking fee for the exchange. Amazon has a 30 day free return policy on certain TVs (I think the TV has to be over a certain size)

I bought my TV from Amazon, so it is a authorized dealer. What I paid for the TV Samsung shouldn't care.
All I am saying is if you bought the TV from Amazon.
Check every day what the prices are of the sites that they pricematch.
I did and saved over $200 on my TV, and I got a free Blu-Ray player.
I got 200 back as well. Best buy has the 55 for 2,499 on sale. Got my price match yesterday. I got it from best buy for 2,700.

It seems Samsung has dropped the UPP prices on the 8000 a bit. I believe you also get a free Samsung soundbar now too.

I received my 60es8000 a couple of days ago., This is a really nice panel. I have flashlighting but no visible clouding. I'm suspect that the flashlighting is extremely common on these sets, but it tends to improve substantially in the first 30 days. I'm glad that there is no clouding. We'll see how the panel gels in the next 30 days, but everything seems A-OK. My panel is dated June.

I agree with others who have said the es8000 is a hair better than the es7500. I didn't do a side by side, but I notice that the contrast is just a little better. I'm glad I upgraded.

I tested everything plasma and LCd 60" and up when shopping the past three weeks under proper conditions. I brought a Sony s550 bluray player with 5th element,, avatar toy story3 and casablanca blu rays to test to my satisfaction......I bought the Samsung es8000 one week ago.

It easily outshined any plasma. It was only bested by the ELITE. Definately a notch above the 7500 and i dont know why as i thought only skype cam and smart features separated but it was worth the xtra few bucks.

LOVE THIS SET! inky black, razor sharp detail, gorgeous color palet, endless tweaks available....it seems to have improved over the past week.

Thanks to this forum, I just called HHgreg and was instructed how to obtain the 100.00 price drop adjustment and that they will send me on my way with the soundbar subwoof det (that i can add the the 7 yr old 60" sony rplcd just tranferred to the gameroom for wii and workout activity)

I have absolutely zero complaints one week in. Every single blu, dvd or fios source material thrown at it looks profoundly better than I ever have seen them before.

I matched the samsung 6500 3d blu player and do recommend it as a great source (love the slot load feature and sexy look to match the sexiest looking flat screen on the market right now)
Nice im glad you like it! Avatar is one of the best blu ray transfers there is. Avatar is what you want to use on this set to show it off. Are you using nitras settings?
