ok. here are the results from 100% white to 40%, and then 75% blue.

other than the 100% white, my naked eye can't see any banding in 75% blue or 40% white. i guess it's normal?

Looks like the right and left sides are not as consistent as the middle. Is that b/c of pictures? My HS01 panel is pretty uniform in every color.

arenam and mcat - I have the same problem and am awaiting a refund. They wouldn't send someone out to fix it, but they will send someone to pick it up. Oh well, I will buy another one likely and try to get the squaretrade warranty through costco, but don't think that is an option in Canada if the tv isn't purchased there? My set wasn't very bad initially, but has now become totally unwatchable. I am lucky to get 10 minutes before it goes color crazy and continuous reboot mode.

Myself and a few others had our banding repairs rejected by Samsung warranty and of course we all then went to different manufacturers. A few others had their claims accepted and replaced their panels ( in some cases more than once) and eventually got a panel that was livable. Crap shoot - the real determinator IMO is how much you value your free time.

Received my 65 inch 8000 about 4 weeks ago and found it very dim out of the box. guy came out to calibrate it and right away u can see how bad the clouding is. makes any dsrk film or scope aspect unwatchable. banding is quite bad too. he recommended right away I get a new unit. glad I paid for the extended warranty. lets hope the next one is better!

Anyway, after being on hold for a good time, he set up a repair person to come.I will keep you updated as I know more. Good luck to you.

Yes, you're right I'm from England, it was happening on my Sky TV source, hope it goes well, I'll look out for your updates and will let you know how I get on

So what happened? did you just explain the issue to them or emailed photos and they decided to refund rather than repair? how long did you have the set?

They're pretty good to be fair in comparison to some I've seen, when you post up a low percentage slide you're going to see any slight flaws. I doubt anyone has a perfect panel.

I've posted a few images of mine in the past so won't bother unless anyone really wants to see them again.

Agree, unless the photos are obscuring the banding, it is one one of the most mild cases of banding I have seen on these forums. Mine was at least twice as bad. Watch some movies dude... If you notice the banding against panning shots, sky scenes etc and if you can still see the banding, decide if you can live with it in normal viewing conditions.

Wow. Is that a 65? That's the best one I think anyone has posted pics of in here.

Thanks for the info, I was just living with it because if I turned the set off then on, it would resolve the issue. Very random, only on start up.I do have an extended warranty from Square Trade from Costco, although, it was purchased from Amazon in Nov. of 2012.
Anyway, when I saw Aeraman was having this issue and folks were telling him to get a repair scheduled, I did just that. I will update as I know more.
Let me ask, did it start to cause overall PQ to degrade? I have very bad artifacting on dark scenes that I never had before. I have fiddled with the settings of our talented calibrators, to no avail.
Thanks terry1hockyfan for input.

I had a chance to spy the 55" f8000 when buying the Hobbitt and ZeroDarkThirty last night: First impressions...It was mounted at floor level in the isle so judging darks, clouding and flashlight would be impossible.

Design wise its super sexy with continued theme of slim beze. I did like the retracting popup cam and ultrclean back panel but not sure if thats really good (i like easy access to the back plumbing when i walk behind my stand.

I did love the menus and input selector. Lots of interesting "stuff" going on there but the AngryBird demo via usb seemed to override some of my surfing thru the menu. The demo seemed to produce great clear, depth , detail and realism that I expect from the 8000 level.

Demo picture was outstanding. If i wasnt already an extremely happy owner of a un60es8000 i'm quite sure this would be on the short list of my picks. Based on demo alone no plasma in the store touches the F8000. BattleGround are with Sony only as the Elite is stupidly cost prohibitive for people in this budget.

I look forward to running this one through the drills when I can get my hands on a 60 or 65 as 55 or smaller always behave differently.

I wouldnt use the stand that comes with it so that is not a factor ever for me.

Regarding my video streaming from the Mac.

I bought the licensed version of TVMobili and that solved all of my problems. Everything is working great. I tried Flex and it was no-go with the Mac.

TVMobili isn't the most user friendly program. It doesn't provide a great deal of information regarding what it's doing. Took forever to catalogue all of the media and during the process, didn't provide any detail concering progress. However, with patience, it dit it's job and I'm pretty much please with the results.

Thanks to all who provided assistance and guidance.

do you mind putting up yours, just for kicks. please smile.gif

fyi, i don't know why the blue and 40% gray are showing, maybe it's the camera. but to my eyes i can't spot any banding in blue and gray. it's only white i notice.

as far as in movies, i don' notice it. i don't see it in hockey game or soccer game. only time i see it is if i tell myself it's there and i look for it. mad.gif it all started when i started reading this forum. sigh....

If you can't see it, why are you stressing? Banding is obvious when its an issue. Yours is not an issue and probably the least amount of banding I've ever seen on a 65.

If that's a 60, then it's a different story. I'd say that is actually more than what is normal for a 60 based off of owner comments for 60ES8000s, but still well within what I would consider a non issue especially if he says he does not notice in panning like Hockey.

well.. consider i am already out of my exchange window, it's not like i can make any exchanges anymore. yes, i hardly notice anything during movies. the pictures actually makes it seem worse. i think picture #2 does a better job of what i actually see in reality. and in reality, i don't see any non-uniformity for solid blue or any other color. if anything in some commercials where you have a solid white background with a logo in the middle i start to notice. i guess i am just OCD. you can say that i just need some re-assurance from you guys to tell me it's not that bad.

sometimes i wish i'd never came on this thread and i probably would've never found out about any imperfections. rolleyes.gif

As awesome as the F8000 sounds are you seriously going to get 1?
i know i want 1 pretty bad but since you have a es why not try & go for the F plasma?
From what i have read it seems the plasma is really the big ticket bang for the buck this time around.
If i can make a spare $2000 this yr & find a 60" for that price i will prolly jump my usual every 2 yrs TV upgrade cause the plasma is just that fantastic.
When u start to hear ppl saying it's like OLED quality for far less that's impressive.
Only reason i didn't grab another plasma is the electric bill is like 3-4x that of LED tv's & LED seems to have video games "POP" more then plasma in both 2D/3D.
I love this set but i also love plasma TV's so i am getting VERY impatiant with waiting for more news on the evo kit.

Lastly, congrats to new owners of the ES8000

Do you mean Plex? Plex works flawlessly on a mac.

Get away while you still can. I even saw some banding recently on an NBC golf telecast. I was supposedly the one with a 65" that didn't have any. Cmay's disease spreads. It's like the Samsung phones you touch together and stuff transfers between them.

i think for moral reasons, they should really edit the title of this thread with an added "()" as "(buyers remorse warning!)"

Yes, I've never said it's perfect, I don't even know why I went looking for trouble though as I've never noticed any issues during normal viewing

your's isn't bad at all compared to the 65 which is about 5 times worse from the way I see it, but true once you can see you cannot ever stop seeing. Its a lot like once you get a pallette for certain spirits its hard to go back to the 'rail' stuff.
