I agree with you 100% The brightness and sharpness on a plasma are the main reasons I never owned one. I just got wore down trying to get a good LED Panel from Samsung that didn't have such horrible uniformity issues. Ready to try something new. So far, I'm actually impressed by the brightness and clarity of the Panasonic. I guess because I heard such negative talk about it, I kept my expectations pretty low. Ive been pleasantly surprised this far. We'll see if it stays that way after a couple weeks smile.gif

Yeah, I hear ya... exchanging sets is a hassle. My first es8000 had a dead pixel so I exchanged it out.

Sounds like you feel my pain. How's your new ES8000 performing compared to your first?

Dumb question but I've never used a 3D set before getting this guy. What are the little blue and red tabs on the 3D glasses for? They aren't mentioned or pictured in the paperwork anywhere. Am I supposed to pull them off? The glasses work but the tabs kind of block the view.

My second one ended up being a flawless set. Very minimal clouding that's hardly noticeable. flash lighting I can only see if the back light is set to around 16 or higher which I don't know why you would even want the back light any brighter than 13 or so. I am very happy with my second ES8000.

You need to remove those tabs. They are to protect the lenses of the glasses. Remove them on each side of the lens and you will see some of the most amazing 3D you ever experienced.

I am not going to lie.............

I laughed for a good 4 minutes after reading this, just imagining you trying to look around hte red/blue filters on the glasses biggrin.gif

Take them off smile.gif

I know but you'd think the book might mention them. Since they didn't really cover much of the lens I didn't think they were just lens protectors, especially with different colored tabs.

Glad I could cheer you guys up this mornig. smile.gif

It easily outshined any plasma. It was only bested by the ELITE. Definately a notch above the 7500 and i dont know why as i thought only skype cam and smart features separated but it was worth the xtra few bucks.
LOVE THIS SET! inky black, razor sharp detail, gorgeous color palet, endless tweaks available....it seems to have improved over the past week.
Thanks to this forum, I just called HHgreg and was instructed how to obtain the 100.00 price drop adjustment and that they will send me on my way with the soundbar subwoof det (that i can add the the 7 yr old 60" sony rplcd just tranferred to the gameroom for wii and workout activity)
I have absolutely zero complaints one week in. Every single blu, dvd or fios source material thrown at it looks profoundly better than I ever have seen them before.
I matched the samsung 6500 3d blu player and do recommend it as a great source (love the slot load feature and sexy look to match the sexiest looking flat screen on the market right now)

I agree with 100%. I'm glad you got the soundbar and the refund. I got the refund. I'm hopeful to get the soundbar too altough Amazon is offering a 19 lcd instead.

More importantly, the TV is fantastic. I love the way the Samsung top tier TVs look. I think the LGs have a slightly better look on their top tier tvs, but the PQ is not nearly as good as the Samsungs. Also LGs have worse flashlighting than Samsung also believe it or not . I returned a 55" lg 8600.

Don't think you are the only one who was curious what they were doing labeling the pulloffs with different colors. Enjoy your set

Haven't looked into it, but I think its a power consumption meter.

I just got the free 450 Soundbar?sub set . I already have a Pioneer avr, Polk sub, center and and Celestion 5 piece surround but I am curious how this will sound so I just need to play in a few ways....
-Optical out from tv to sound bar
-Optical out from AVR to sound bar , by pass the Celestions and test with both subs

I have a strong hunch that although the 450 looks sexy, clean and simple....it wont sound near as good enough for me to streamline my setup.

It's just a guess, but I reckon you are right. I don't know many soundbars that can even compete with a basic 5.1 system.
I also got the free soundbar from best buy. It sounds pretty damn good! Way better than the tv speakers. The sub gives some good punch as well. For free its awesome!

I may be late but I've noticed since the update that I am now able to adjust the volume with more control via voice than before. We are now able to say volume up and then the number we want the volume to be adjusted too. No one has mentioned it so I thought I would..rolleyes.gif

Gotta agree with some of the comments in here by those who tried plasma first.

After the D7000 last year and both the E8000 and the ST50 this year, I just wasn't happy with plasma. The picture certainly had its positives, but there were too many issues and drawbacks. I'm so glad I ended up with the ES7500. It's a seriously awesome tv. For the first time since I started looking for my first HD set last year, I'm totally enjoying the set without being frustrated by image retention, brightness pops, fluctuations, ABL, and other plasma issues. The image on this set is so sharp it's almost like a window.

Got the free soundbar and $200 price match from BB the other day. They blocked my girlfriend from returns for 90 days after we returned the last plasma, which seriously pissed me off since they told us that after we bought the ES7500. I was afraid we wouldn't be able to get the price match and free soundbar since it required a return, but all I had to do is hand them my license, since they block according to license number, and it went through fine. Best Buy needs to learn how to treat their customers, since my girlfriend was a silver member, so she should have an extended 60 day return on the tv, instead her license is banned from returns. I haven't had a chance yet to set the soundbar up because I've been sick this week but I can't wait to try it out.

Just took the new update and it reset all my settings. UNBELIVEABLE!

It's gonna take a good half hour at least now to put all my settings back in for each input. Please tell me this isn't going to happen each time we take an update? What if I just paid to have a pro calibration? All that would be lost now. That's really hard to believe. Is Samsung going to compensate those who paid for a calibration and lost the settings? Somehow I don't think so.

They need to not let this happen again.
They needed to push them through as they did.

Side note, if you had the set professionally calibrated, the "Cal-day" and "Cal-Night" settings were not wiped out, so those that shelled out the money are not affected by this.

I was waiting for the CNet review also, until suddenly.... my old TV died, and wouldn't come on any more. It was a 42" Sony projection LCD (720p). It had a problem the last few years where when the power went off, the red LED wouldn't come on, and I'd unplug it and plug it back in and then it would work (weird). I figured at some point it wouldn't come on, and Tuesday was the day, after getting a Smart Meter from PG&E and they turned off the power for a few seconds.

So off we went to Fry's. I got the ES8000 55". The picture is awesome. I put on Avatar on Blu Ray, and it looked like I was looking thru a window. The blacks are amazing compared to my old Sony. The only problem so far, besides the update erasing all my settings (!), is I do see the stuttering problem. I see stuttering on both DirecTV content and the PS3 Blu Ray content, both sent thru my Onkyo TX-NR818 receiver. I was noticing it maybe 2 to 3 times a minute while watching a DVD from the PS3.

I used Nitra's settings from page 36 (thanks Nitra!)

I understand your frustrations about BB or any other retailer for that matter when it comes to customer service because without customers these places would not be in business........BUT.....let's be fair here, you did return a fair amount of TV's and the issues you returned them for were not due to defects but rather your distaste for the plasma technology and some of the oddities it brings. I'm not backing up retail stores because I've had my fair share of issues with Abe's of Maine but at some point stores have to put their foot down about customers habitually exchanging/retuning merchandise.

I have to disagree 100%. Best Buy's Store policy states 30 day Satisfactory/return policy. They advertise that heavily. No where does it say a limited amount of returns only etc. When you spend this kind of money on TV's you should be happy with them. You can always see them in the stores etc, but real world viewing (in your home day and night) may change your opinion on many things. I first had a es7500, took that back to upgrade to the es8000, that had a dead pixel so I exchanged that for a new es8000 and I got a good set. I even told them if this one has a dead pixel I'm coming right back for another exchange. They knew I wasn't messing around and the guy even said oh I totally agree, don't deal with dead pixels etc. If a store have to put their foot down, then they should not advertise the 30 day exchange policy so heavily, or have disclaimers. They are going into this 30 day return/exchange program knowing they will have a lot of this happening, even the people who actually abuse the system. They advertise it for sales and business, they need to stick to it. If they cant do that then they need to remove that from their ads, website, sales people etc.

so i gotta a disspointing call from the futureshop employee, the samsung 65'' es8000 which was supposed to be delivered to my house this week is apparently delayed by 2-3wks mad.gif this sucks as I can't really wait that long huhhh i was going to get the 60'' at first but the sales rep is like the 65'' is coming in next week so i ordered the 65'' now this, really mad but o well hopefully its worth the wait.

Now im contemplating if I shud get the Sony 1080p 3D Home Theatre Projector (VPLHW30ESB) instead cuz it costs $400 less. I'm not sure what to do, any suggestions

BB (or any retailer) has the right to protect themselves from customers that seem to be abusing a return policy.

They should do any limitations at the time of return of an item - before another item is purchased.

Waiting until you buy something, and then changing the return policy on that item, is wrong.

My experience with BB is that they do more things that fall in the "wrong" category than
"right".

I would not provide my driver's license info to them when returning an item, unless it was required when I purchased it.

Yes I agree with you. I was more talking on the fact that Eagle had a fair return/exchange situation. I can understand if you went through every TV they have and still wanting to return/exchange. But when it comes to high cost stuff, returning 2-3 sets is not that bad if you are not happy with them. I had dead pixel in mine so that is 100% legit for returning. I even said I will keep coming back until I get a set that has no dead pixels. What Best buy did was wrong with Eagle. They changed it after he got the 7500. I think they should have told him that before he went with the purchase. If they told me that, I would pry have said ok, Well I want a full refund and I will shop somewhere else. Thats just me though.

I will say that Best buy has always done me right. They have been excellent with exchanges/returns etc. I guess it all depends on who your dealing with at best buy. I have never had a single issue with Best Buy.

Also, HLDan, That is correct. That pretty much covers them. I think that is more for if they see any kind of physical damage though to the return. If you return a TV and there's a big scrape on the screen or a dent, they could say no because of the scratch or dent etc. When it comes to pure satisfactory of a product, I think that's where they need to stick to their words. What they did to eagle was just messed up. Thats where I am coming from.

If you can do a proper projection setup and you have the space in your basement, do it! When I mean proper setup I mean a good screen to really show the picture shine, a nice install of the projector mounted on the ceiling with the wires all hidden etc. I would usually only recommend a projection setup if someone is re doing or re finishing a basement so you an do it all right and have it installed nice. My brother has a 120 inch framed screen with a Sony SXRD projector in his basement. IF you can do a nice setup do it. But I am not to fond of the people who buy a nice projector and slap it on a book shelf and project on a white wall with cords everywhere and all sloppy.

I am not sure with 3D on a projector though. I have heard it is not that great. The ES8000 is known to have some of the best 3D you can get for home use. I will say, the 3D is super smooth on the ES8000. The big problem with projectors I see is brightness. You have to have a real dark room for them to really shine.
