No problem.
I faced the same dilemma when hanging my tv.
Having a 1" thick TV and a 4" thick Wall mount was not ok!!!!!!

The almost no bezel really makes the picture appear larger. Its a cool illusion. When I was in the store looking at the 55 inch Panasonic and the 55ES8000 side by side, the ES8000 looked bigger.
The closer you sit the more detail you will see as well. For me 6 feet is perfect for my 55 inch. I can clearly see all of the fine detail and it gives me that immersive feel.

Wow that's close! You guys think those 5" are worth the $500 jump??? I mean it's not 40" to 55" inch jump, so the size difference might not be that dramatic.

So I purchased it through amazon today, and I called to see if I can get the free sound bar that many of its competitors are bundling with the tv and the person on the phone told me that they only match prices not anything that is given away with it for free. Anyone else had any success with amazon matching the soundbar bundle?

Hey there,

Try telling Amazon that they are running the same promotion right now themselves. They should definitely match themselves. It worked for me.

Hehe yeah it seems close but trust me, the image quality this set has you will want to be that close to see every fine detail. The image is so crisp its hard to even explain. I came from a 40 inch flagship 2007 Samsung LCD, back when you paid a extra 800-1000 for 1080P. So the jump to 55 was huge!

You will see a difference in the 60 inch as far as size. 5 inches doesn't seem like a lot but it is a noticeable jump. You will have to decide if you want to spend the extra money. I always tell people when they ask me what size they should get, if they they think 46 then I tell them 55 because when they get the 46 people seem to say I should have went bigger. Or if you have your mind set on a 55 I would say go 60". I don't know how many times I've heard people say I should have gone bigger when they get their sets home. (after the 30 day exchange of course) If your up in the air about a 55 or 60, I would say go with the 60 so you don't have them regrets.

My rule of thumb is always go the next size bigger than what your thinking or planning. You will be happier :-)

After reading those words of wisdom, I think i'm going to hold out for the 65". I made a cardboard template of the 60" and held it where my 61" JVC is placed and was surprised how much smaller it looked than what I have.
I sit about 16 ft away from my 55". However, I have 20/10 vision, so it evens out in the end. I was able to make out 2 dead pixels from that distance on the d8k. I thought it was just one but the pixels are so small on these tv's it was actually 2. My wife sits probably half that away, wears contacts and could not see the dead pixels.

Thanks for advice! After measuring out the 55" vs 60" on my TV stand the 60" (and $500 extra for the 5") would have been a bit of overkill. Plus I already had a 55" GT30 on there and thought the size was just right. I measured my viewing distance and it's actually slightly under 12 ft (137 inches) Screen to Eye, so using the 2.5x method landed me squarely at the 55". Just placed an order for 55ES8000 and Free Soundbar on Amazon. Fingers crossed its a good panel!!!

With that $500 I saved, I think I'll start building out a HT system as I'm currently using a "High End" (haha) Sony HTIB circa 2006.

Nice! Congrats on the purchase! Let us know when you get it and how you like it. Check out page 36 for some isf calibration settings from nitra.

Anyone else notice that is shopping for the es8000 60 or 65" that Sears raised their prices overnight? They had the 60" and 65" pricing inline with everyone else yesterday. Today's another story. What gives?

Thanks

Hi. Which panels are the best for the 55ES8000 and 55ES7500?

Thanks

Both use the same panel, the only difference is contrast algorithms and exterior. I'd go with the es8000 vs es 7500 as its only $300 to get top of the line. Also people discuss the es8000 more so settings, issues, tips, and advice will be more readily available.

Thank you. How do you like the stand with the ES8000? That is one thing I liked better with the ES7500.

Thanks

who buys a tv like this from sears?

Amazon will be cheaper and better customer service

Sear will charge you tax, Amazon will not
Amazon offers free delivery and setup
If there is an issue with your TV, amazon will ship you another one for free, and then pick up your old one and reset up your new one.
Amazon will price match many different stores to make sure they are the cheapest............

Have you had any experience with ABT? They have it listed at the same price with the sound bar as well.

I have bought a bluray player from them and did not have any issues. They have good feedback and shipped promptly to me.

Everyone should have it for the same price with the sound bar. This TV is under UPP pricing set by Samsung. When it comes to buying these Samsungs, I would always choose a place like Amazon over a place like ABT as the exchange would be much easier if necessary.

Also be aware Sears charges a 15% restocking fee if you return the TV in the 30day period, unlike amazon.
I got burned by that at Sears recently, so went with Amazon for a TV purchase now.

So it has been about two weeks since my panel arrived and the flashlighting is almost nonexistant. It went from very heavy when I first received my panel to nonexistant in a short period of time. That begs me to wonder about break in periods.

I was under the impression that LCDs do not need any type of break in period. Yet there are many examples in this thread of people's panels improving over the first 30 days dramatically. If that is the case why do people claim that LCDs do not need a breakin period? If so, does every panel get better in the first 30 days? How can we make an accurate assesment when it is obvious to me that there is some type of breakin required for LCDs. Also, if a breakin period if required for LCDs, I wonder how long it is and I wonder at what point is a calibration a good idea?

What do you guys/gals think?

I'm trying to decide if I should keep my Samsung 55ES8000 or get a Sony HX850.
Based on my research on this forum and others, the Sony HX850 was recommended above the Samsung 55ES8000 due to all the clouding and panel issues.
Also I liked the picture quality better on the Sony.

I got the ES8000 though because it went on sale and was a lot cheaper than the Sony which was out of my budget.
Now the Sony is a bit cheaper than the Samsung sale price.

I've been reading some of this thread all night and I still don't know.
So I've got some questions and ANY help is appreciated.

- What's the deal if you have a a TS01 panel? Is it the best one to look for?

- Although I can't find any clouding issues, I am not sure if I am doing it right.
I searched for a black image online and put it on USB and brought it up on screen.

The image seemed uniform but it was NOT black. It was quite bright actually. The whole room was lit up (dark room, no windows, at night).
I am using Nitra's settings from page 36. Is this normal? Will it get darker later on?

Am I doing these tests correctly?

- So overall I don't know if I should wait for the panel to settle and the picture will get less "bright" (my only issue I can see) OR should I get the Sony?

On this account then everybody and I mean everybody would be returning their TV sets out of dissatisfaction. You're not quite being fair here. We all have to go through this when buying a TV and even worse, some of us don't even have a showroom to see the TV we want to buy as some stores don't even carry the TV we are interested in leading us to have to buy online sight unseen. Being at Best Buy, the fact that you can actually see touch and play with the TV face to face along with changing the settings from "torch mode" and at best (depending on how the TV is being displayed) have the store connect a blu-ray so you can see the TV the way you'd watch it at home is a heck of a lot more options than some others may get.

So far I'm loving my new 55" ES8000. The picture is stunning. It's far superior to my old Sony LCD projection 42".

The only issue is the stuttering talked about earlier in this thread. I'll have to go back and look at what they said. I notice it all the time coming from DirecTV, and from DVD's. I never did notice it when playing Avatar from a Blu Ray. This makes sense I guess based on the earlier posts about stuttering is caused by content being upgraded from 720 to 1080.
If you are using an AVR with upconverting, try using it to upconvert the image to 1080p. This may resolve that issue.

I've been enjoying everyone's posts and patiently waiting to buy the 65" es8000. I'm pulling the trigger this friday(payday), buying it via Amazon. So I'll be sure to post video of the unboxing, as soon as I receive it!

Has anyone come from a Sony HX929 to this model? As much as I love the black level on the Sony it does a horrible job with signal noise while watching cable TV. I have been trying to convince myself that I love it but im just not happy. Im thinking about swapping it for the ES8000 but I orginally bought the D8000 from last year and although I love the clarity and the noise reduction on the Samsung, the clouding and corner light bleed is so distracting! Honestly how bad is it on the ES. I bought my 929 before the Price lock policy so i paid much less than the current sticker so im worried that if i swap it for the ES8000 and im not happy I wont be able to afford going back the the Sony.
Just a week or so from doing the same. Want to get the sound bar for the upstairs tv. I believe that offer ends on the 21st.
