It was Samsungs $10,000 TV last year. Same panel, but added back in cinema black and some perhaps hardware dimming. Still had issues with clouding/flashlight, most concluded not worth the price tag.

Took some pics of different brightness levels. I did not do 100% but that level is pretty good for daytime viewing. Color is not truly represented here as these are taken with a cell camera.

25%

50%

75%

Thanks for that. How do you think content looks in a dark room at each brightness level? Which is best?

I watched at night using 50% and also 75% so far and both looked great. The blacks look as good at night with this light on as they do during the daytime hours. They are inky as can be and blend into the panel. You would think it was a plasma when you have this light on. Also, it does give the added appearance of higher contrast levels.

I think once you watch at night with this light on you will never watch without it again. The picture will just look like drab without it in a dark environment.

For under $15 you pretty much have nothing to lose. It ships from China and I received it in about 9 days.

You sold me on it. I ordered one earlier today. I've been meaning to do this for a couple years now, and the one you linked to just happened to be the right price and idiot proof enough to be too much to resist

I guess I expect too much from a flagship tv. Made by a top tier maker. My un65es8000 looked horrible. Flash lighting, glitching, dark bands running from top to bottom. I have read allot of posts about problems. I don't know the terminology for my problems. But I do know a bad image. Now to Samsungs credit they replaced my first set and are now refunding me. I have not given up on Samsung and plan to get the f8000. From what I've read they have fixed allot if the problems. And for the people buying the ambiant light, don't you think your several thousand dollar tv should look good with out a 15 dollar back light. Maybe I'm just too picky. Any way better luck with this year's.

A $15 backlight will make the best TV in the world look even better. If you put a backlight on a crappy TV, you will still have a crappy TV in the end. It will just improve your viewing experience. Professionals have been using corrective lighting for years to view content.

LED's do not buzz and no you will not be safe buying any Samsung LED. There is a reason why one Samsung TV can cost $1,000 and another can cost $3,000.

I'm trying to figure out a feature that I found reference to these model TV's having but now scouring the internet, I can't find it. The google results still pull up the page that listed the option, but the option is not there anymore. Specifically, I'm talking about the 'no signal standby' option. Someone in the past mentioned that feature on the thread, but in reference to the instructions I think. Can anyone confirm that this feature is available on this TV.

I'm presuming this acts like stanby on a computer monitor, which is basically the point of what I want to accomplish. So if there's no signal from the PC, it should go into a standby mode that shuts the display down. I wish to put this TV in a conference room so that would be a primary function. Anyone know if this works?

YES it acts like a PC where it will turn off After X amount of time, I think 15 mins? I don't remember how long.
the screen displays there's no connection when PC is in sleep mode or off.

BTW how are those evil kits doing ?

Pretty good. My kit is 100% more evil, you might even say bad to the bone

Didn't cost much, and really puts an already great experience just over the top

What do you like best about the Evo kit, what do you like best about it? Thanks in advance.
Good question. Well having used Samsung Smart Hubs on both their bluray players and tvs for several years now, this is the first time its ever felt like a complete, well put together experience.

Not only is the overall presentation just better, but the look and feel overall has gone from half baked to complete and more functional. I wont go in to all the other things people have already covered, but one thing I want to go out of my way to mention is that the new remote is not just better, but I would say its pretty great. I finally got out the IR blaster and went thru the dummy proof setup with linking it as a universal control with my dish dvr and it works better than expected.

The web browser is very snappy and the touch remote is able to smoothly handle navigation unlike last years remote. Video streaming apps seem to stutter less and I now have 3D playback capability in Netflix

I have 1GB now for app storage and you can download them to your hearts content. Future updates may bring about very very minor PQ improvements but we shall see. I love the new F8000 style Menu and the countless options within

What do I like best? Probably the fact that it wasnt $299 and I got great value for my money at $170
post #15463 of 16125
Hi does anyone know if the f8000 is brighter than the es8000? Or are they the same?

What do you mean by 3D Playback capability in Netflix?
I didnt have 3d playback option available in Netflix until I installed my kit...I only had Super HD (which is 1080p). After the kit the main categories menu in Netflix had a 3D section added. I though t it might have just been timing and a coincidence but another user said that the same thing happened to him - and when he removed the kit he no longer had the 3D option in Netflix

They ship pretty fast and have a good bbb rating. You won't regret getting it. I've seen one or two people say that they were underwhelmed with it, and many more ecstatic reviews. The only way I wouldn't recommend is if you had to pay for than $200 for it

Thought I would share some screen shots...The picture on this TV really is great. My biggest grip with it though is the off angle viewing. You really cannot appreciate the picture unless you are looking dead on at it.

It would really make me smile to see that same picture as I walk past the TV from one side to another or sit on my couch that is on the side of the TV. Or peak at the TV from another room.

What's the difference? I could tell it's not an ES8000 because the stand is different. I did order the Evo Kit yesterday from the site recommended. $188 USD shipped. I put my TV back into action in the LR Wednesday. We are remodeling.

ES8000 has a higher CMR and supposedly a little higher contrast ratio. Also has dimming ultimate instead of dimming pro that is on the es7500.

Out of Stock... Most of these small shops that are selling them for this low is worrisome to me... my guess is these are possibly used or first Gen kits that were circulating trade shows or sent to shops as demos and they are repackaging them and selling them as "new".

BestBuy has the MSRP as 350 and they don't even have stock yet so how are these small shops even getting there hands on them?
Just ordered mine from them, refresh the site and they have 26 in stock 187.00 and just got an email it's being sent FedEx .
For you fellow Canucks, I just placed an order through NCIX and price matched from Coast Central and they honoured the price.

179.99 + shipping and tax... I am a happy Camper...

How do you know how small the shop is? I doubt many businesses could get ahold of enough used units to make a difference. The Best Buy in my town didn't even have the ES8000 last fall when I bought mine, so I'm not surprised they don't have any Evo kits. They're too busy selling low end TVs and Jamboxes lol. I bet Costco isn't selling any Evo kits either.
