You guys are nuts. I'm still using a Yamaha sub I bought for $400 in like 1993, when subs were new. It's got 2 four inch drivers and a crossover knob. You had to bleed the front speaker wires through it because there was no sub output on AVRs then (Dolby Digital was the format, VHS the source). It still sounds good, but maybe it's time to upgrade? (I think I know the answer)

The VDR is a 12" and has more sophisticated electronics w/ DSP and presets.  I personally use that feature all the time.  For ex., the music setting gives me accurate, smooth yet punchy bass, the Action Movie setting rattles the walls.  smile.gif

Hey, here's an idea.  If still available, order two of the Velos.  Same price as 1 SVS, way more power/headroom, WAY more speaker area-and you'll gain low freq extension.  if you like you can situate two subs to help cancel room modes created by either one for smoother, punchier bass.  Two subs is crazy good, especially at that price!

While you're at it, why not buy the "Butt-Kicker" chairs with the Sub connected.

Two subs, one on each side of the room with "Butt Kicker" lounge chairs to boot. That way, you'll really feel the movie....smile.gif

^My HT is on a suspended hardwood floor over a crawlspace so when I put my two Velodyne DD10s (combined 2500 W RMS) in "Action Movie" mode I get my "butt kicked" pretty good already.  :D

I couldn't find it on google but if you look in your manual you will see that the TV input is limited to 1920x1080@60hz, or 1080p60. All the marketing about 120hz and 240hz is around the processing that gets performed by the TV itself on the 60hz signal before displaying it (ie, the smoothing features etc). I dont know about TMT vs PowerDVD but if they are switching to 30hz and 24hz when you are playing bluray, it is doing that because that is the framerate of the source content. If it got it wrong and was playing 24fps content at 30hz (or vice versa) it would look terrible, so dont worry, it's doing what it is supposed to.

In terms of displays that accept greater than 60hz input, I think you need to look at PC gaming monitors for that. As far as I know no television accepts anything higher than 1080p60 (except the handful of 4k 30hz displays out there).

I have occasional stutter. It happens on a irregular basis on all HDMI inputs. I have read a few posts that suggest changing "AMP" setting to "clear". I am not home to check but don't recall seeing this in the menu. What is it and what am I changing? I won't be able to look at it until tomorrow. Other then this I love the set.

Yep. You likely need to change that to clear to resolve the studder problem. Here's where you'll find it:

Picture-> Picture Options-> Auto Motion Plus

This is EXACTLY what was wrong with mine. Took three repairs to identify it. The connection cable had a short, and one of the ends actually looked burnt when it was taken off. First two techs didn't notice it. 3rd Tech indicated that there was a service bulletin posted about this being the potential problem.
Well so far so good. "AMP" (Auto Motion Plus), changed it to "clear and all seems well. I have not seen any stutter. I'm not 100% sure but the picture looks a tad softer in clear. Anyone else notice that. It could just be my old eyes playing tricks on me.

Are you guys able to get dualview (or whatever its called) working with the Galaxy tab 2(or galaxy s3 for that matter)? My TV came with one as a bonus but I've never actually ben able to make it work, not sure what the deal is.

secondary note- im still extremely disappointed that allshare-cast (aka miracast) doesnt work without a silly dongle despite the TV having all needed technology already built in.

Dual view only works for non HDMI connections.

You could do component, but HDMI looks the best.

SteFuel, i agree that clear does soften the pic slightly. I use standard. I dont have stutter but the occasional blur...but imho its easy to live with for the sharper punchier picture. Well worth the trade off.

I use to have my AMP setting set to Clear cause I would get bad stuttering in STANDARD. But lately after latest update FW 1057 I have it set to STANDARD and it's perfect smile.gif

hey frank, what's the diff between the two ? I had bought a mount from best buy but I want a mount that sets the tv as close to the wall. Is there any heat issues being so close to the walls ?

Regarding SmartHub apps; is there a difference between the availability of the apps for US to Canada?

Frank

@Frank, thanks I just read your signature post on PVR, WOW, never knew you could do that. I need to see what other features are missing from my CDN version.

So my UN60ES8000 got stolen out of my house last week with a home break in, and I'm probably going to replace this TV with something different, maybe even plasma.
Not sure what brands or what right now, I just know that I'm going to rethink my original decision on this TV itself.

They didn't steal the EVO Kit remote or the TV Remote that came with it, nor the IR Blaster.
If anyone is looking for a back up to these devices, or wants extras, we can work out a deal, just PM me.

Thanks.

Wow that sucks. Did they actually take it off a wall mount or was it on a stand? Also, couldn't Samsung locate the set if the thief tried to use any of the smart features...I mean they probably wouldn't go into all that, they would just expect you to carry home insurance. But still if a cellphone has the technology to be located at a thief's address I'm sure a smart tv could be as well

Perhaps they will use the internet with the kit and the S-Recommend will suggest such shows as Law & Order and Cops...

It was just on a stand here in the house. I don't know if the TV has GPS features in it? And they would have to connect it to the internet for anything else to work, so I doubt it can be tracked.
Its ok, I'm happy to go shopping again.

Yeah I don't think it has GPS but couldn't they see the serial number etc. if connected to the internet and track down the IP address and find where its located exactly? Anything that is connected to the internet can be located. And it doesn't hurt that the tv has a camera and facial recognition. Anyways, I'm just saying....I know Samsung is not likely to do anything of the sort...just thinking of possibilities

Sure, thats if they do connect it to the net. Seems like a big hassle to me though, calling Samsung etc. More work and headache for me.

Chris - major bummer. Sorry to hear about it.

But - shopping for a new one should be fun! I think Vizio has an 80" 3D, 240Hz with Internet apps. I got a promo on it the other day.

lol, I don't have room for 80", 65" is my limit, so I'm deciding tween the PN64F8500, or the Panny 65" ZT60
I really liked the LED, but after a bit, I was disappointed in the angle viewing and the IQ from that.
