I think I said this a few pages back, but I can definitely see the benefit to Black Tone on the low setting of Dark and even one up to Darker, and same goes for higher Dynamic Contrast settings. Sometimes I really like it. Then I'll find a movie where the higher settings mess things up. Here's a for-instance.... Return of the Jedi, the Emperor shows up for the first time as he's walking down the ramp of the shuttle. I'm enjoying my darker settings and realize I can hardly see his face. Man, what a bummer. There were a few more instances like that which is why I'm playing it safe with Low and Dark for now in Movie mode. I watched Jaws in HD two nights ago. It was great. Over the next few nights, I may go for Apocalypse Now.

There sure have been a lot of updates over the past month. I wish Samsung would communicate better as to what these updates do. Samsung needs better communication. OOP never replied to my last email. I was trying to address the vertical banding issue. Basically they said that I had to contact customer service for warranty repair. They wouldn't even acknowledge the issue. Shame

You have got to check out The Avengers Bluray in 3D on this set......
That is all.

I'm sure were all going to see all new settings from you tonight smile.gifsmile.gif

Dude, that actually made me laugh - out loud for real. I've updated my settings enough haha - I've gone back to 117 and updated several times. Eh, who am I kidding, I'll still be changing things. smile.gif I can't do a 3 or 4 am marathon again though until Friday. The basics at least have all stayed the same.
I am real curious about what Derek's settings look like on my panel though just for the heck of it. I'm also very curious about what seems to have changed overnight.

Really now. Man, you're going to make me buy a physical disc - and the 4 disc set is only $20 on Amazon at the moment.
I saw it in an IMAX 3D theatre and is was fun. I might actually buy it now that you said that. Even my girls went ape$ht over it.

PLUS.... Digital Copy + Digital Music Download. I now might buy it before the day is over.

Sorry to hear about that. I had to bitch and moan about vertical banding - - initial phone call to support was useless. (Samsung phone support is not worth calling - always document via Email - best recourse). I have the UN65ES8000.

I was initially scheduled for a "LCD panel" replacement but it took so long that Samsung, to their credit, sent me a new TV. It is much better that my previous TV but even now, I notice slight vertical banding (golf shots - some panning with light/white background) and the funny thing is that it is not uniform - - in that, for the most part, my bluray shows no vertical banding and it's most noticeable on golf, but even then, it can differ from "The Golf Channel," to live golfing events on the major networks.

Even now and after reading all the posts on this forum, I'm not sure what the problem is. Larger panels? Hardware? Capacitors? Software?

I've heard that other panels have problems, as well. I also wonder if it's a by product of "edge lite" technology. Even a guy in Italy complained about his vertical banding problem so it's not just the states.

I'm really hoping that they can address this issue with a software fix or even hardware upgrade.

As far as your situation goes - - try to get to the right person in Samsung. My experience is that they will repair, replace or refund. At least that is what they've done for me. I can live with what I have right now (big improvement over my second set (first was damaged in transit) and for $3.6K - - you should be as close to 100% satisfied as you can be.

Keep at it. The TV, once you get the right one, is absolutely incredible - picture wise. That's why I've been persistent in getting mine fixed/replaced and in as best working order as I can get.

Good luck -

Best - Rico

Thank for the tip - - I just ordered mine!

I don't know if anyone has taken advantage of "Amazon Prime" - - but I get free shipping, 2nd Day on most items AND Amazon Prime "Instant Video" streaming to boot all for $79.00/year. They are acquiring more and more content and the HD streaming is top notch.

Plus - - I have never, ever, had a problem in returning something that didn't work out for me or was defective from Amazon. They've also refunded $$$ to me on price match (one instance when they really didn't have to) - so they have me as a customer for life.

Best - Rico

Same here.

Just ordered mine too (thanks, Nitra). I've been considering Prime for these reasons too, I'm just not sure if I should make the account on mine or my wife's Still thinking about it.

If he was lying i guess they shouldn't have hired him but I guess he has been doing calibrations for quite a while so i think or i am assuming he knows what he is doing...... well I can tell you one thing my picture sure looks a hell of a lot better and as far as the report goes...........

St_8_24_2012_copy.pdf 424k .pdf file

Let me know if you cant access the file...
Dude, thanks for sharing that file. I'll set mine up tonight like yours. I know nothing about all this calibration stuff, but being in a scientific profession I do respect objective data such as the calibrator provided (the before and after profiles). They set it that way for a reason and just because it's not the way many others have done it doesn't mean it's wrong. biggrin.gif

When I setup my prime a few years ago, I could invite a family member' account as well. That gave us both Amazon prime for one price. I am not sure if they are still offering this, but each year at renewal, we both get amazon price for one fee.

Just checked my membership and it says I can invite up to four household members so looks like it is still current.

I've got a question after reading a bunch of posts here: Does using the Movie mode do away with the feature unique to this model that adjusts the contrast in multiple sections of the screen (I think it's Micro something)? I've read yes and no to this, some say it only operated in the Standard Mode. I noticed that Lowcrawl's calibrator used the Movie Mode. I was attracted to that Micro adjustment feature when I bought the TV, it was one reason I paid more for it. Is it on all the time? Thanks.

No, it's not active in Movie mode.

Hey, TBN, how's it look on your TV?
Just so you know though, his is very different compared to other people using professional equipment, like Nitra's and CNET's to name a couple. There are more reports out just like the one he got, it's just odd how different his is. Looks like it works for his panel though so I'm curious of your thoughts and what you were using previously.

Q: What's the difference between your job and a dead prostitute?
A: Your job still sucks!

Hopefully nobody is offended.

Sorry wow, I meant Lowcrawl's new settings haha. I already know what the settings you're using look like:)

I'm on my way home now by the way, I couldn't stay at work any longer when my TV might be looking even better.

I look like an idiot laughing on the commute home - that was awesome

What's the quick synopsis of banding issues on this TV right now? Is it a 65" only issue, or does the 60" have them too? Got a 65" a couple weeks ago which is excellent other than some fairly distracting banding. I'd rather not have to play TV-roulette and keep switching out until I get a functional panel.
