Official Samsung UNxxES8000 Owner's Thread - Page 168

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 65ES8000 and going over this thread there hasn't been much talk lately about this sets 3D quality. I currently have a 55C8000 from 2010. I really am into 3D but the C8000 has quite a bit of crosstalk/ghosting on certain titles and I would like a new set to do a better job. Do you guys feel there is major improvement in this department on the ES8000?

Check out my post towards the bottom of p.79. You might just try a newer BD player which will no doubt help

Hey Mike,

I also owned the C8000 and can tell you that the 3D is 100x better on this set. Samsung really did an amazing job at improving the 3D on these new sets. You will be completely satisfied with it. I haven't watched many 3D movies yet, but from the ones I have, I haven't noticed any crosstalk like I did on the C series.

Just make sure you buy your TV from somewhere that has a good return policy just in case you get a panel that has Vertical banding or dead pixels so You can swap it out with no problem. Amazons a great place and they are offering a $400 gift card right now with the purchase of this TV.

Good luck!

Mike, all TVs have their faults and this one is no different, but you may not find a better 3D TV.

...Agreed, Anthony is dead on...I am definately back in standard color temp for anything...warm just adds too much brownish yellowish tint too often for my taste.

...this was easily the best 3D performer during my extensive shopping tied only by the best Sony. The Sammy turned me into a 3D junkie.

Anthony,

Glad you to see you got the H-One up and running. I found the software a bit odd at first...and slow...but once I locked into it's ability I was able to program mine even deeper in layers than I expected (re the touch screen and custom button setup etc etc)

I called Logitech one when I first got started; the CSR said i'd be better off doing all setup fromt he website BUT...all accounts from the H-One forum express strongly the complete opposite, once you setup on line you have to re-build the whole setup again. There is no way to transfer what you have setup via the cd, to the website. There is definately zero integration...so...stick with the cd for setup and enjoy.

Thanks bro.. Yea I had some issues at first, but then I went back and re did the set up and now its working perfectly..

Ps I do like the look of the new Touch Harmony., have you seen it yet? It's really sleek looking
post #5021 of 15238
These TVs have a feature called "Sound Share" built in which means you can connect a certain speaker wirelessly. This is really cool for people that want just a basic sound system without using wires. The only issue right now is that the Samsung speaker cost over $600
For anyone interested, here's the Amazon link to the speaker you can use with these TV's

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-DA-E750-Channel-100-Watt-Audio/dp/B0083BCCXG/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_4

If you read one of the reviews on this speaker, it mentions how the owner has it connected to his TV and claims it works great..

That's what made me buy it.. Everyone on here talking about it and recommending it, and I gotta say, everyone was right. Its a great remote.. Especially if you can buy it for $99 or less

HAHA, yep. When I bought the 700, the 900 didn't exist. I had to chose between the touch screen of the One and the colored buttons on the 700. I went with the 700 - which I still love, but the One and 900 look and feel a little nicer. With DirecTV I use the Red and Yellow buttons almost every day and just don't want them on the screen. So if I stick the 700 in a different room, I think I'd go with the 900. Here is another great feature of the 700 though that the One nor 900 can do... Because there are hard buttons for 3 Activities (plus a More Activities button), I don't even have to pick it up to turn anything on. I just reach down and push the correct button as it sits on the coffee table.

Yeah, as much as I love their remotes, their software is TERRIBLE.

I just use the touch screen once to push my activity and then I just use the buttons. I can understand why you prefer buttons though.

No wonder it's $600 - it's a tube amp! That thing is sweet. Thanks.

Hey, would you please let me try to convince myself that I don't need to upgrade haha. I mean, you just described having to push 200% more buttons than me. smile.gif

Hahah! Yes that speaker does look sweet. I've been watching it for a while now to see if the price comes down. I would definitely be interested in using it in my bedroom

they're 149$ canadian at BB does that sound decent?
I think that's a good price for a new One. If you're cool with refurbished, google Harmony One Refurbished, or even search that on Ebay. If you do Ebay, I'd suggest that you make sure it's "Logitech Refurbished" and not "Seller Refurbished" but that's just me.
I take back that they are phasing out the One. Maybe they are, but I'm not sure now. It disappeared from their site for a couple days, but it's back.

The 700 is gone though. Are they trying to tell me something? frown.gif

Main message from my previous post is that the Samsung benefits from calibration and can achieve excellent results when calibrated.
Picture mode Standard
Picture:
Backlight 20 (for full daylight room)
Contrast 76
Brightness 43
Sharpness 20
Color 50
Tint G50/R50
Screen adjustment Screen fit

Advanced settings:
Dynamic contrast off
Black tone off
Flesh tone 0
RGB mode off
Color space custom
Red: 28, 2, 0
Green: 0, 53, 5
Blue: 8, 0, 49
Yellow: 48, 50, 5
Cyan: 8, 50, 52
Magenta: 33, 0, 49
White balance on
R-offset 24
G offset 24
B offset 21
R Gain 48
G Gain 25
B Gain 5
Gamma 0
Expert pattern off
xvYCC off
Motion lighting off
Black enhancer off
Pictuure options:
Color tone warm2
System/ECO solution:
ECO Sensor ON
Minimum backlight level 8 (for halfdimmed room, max peak white 180cd/m2)

This seems very close to what I got on the first night of testing with Calman v5 and a i1pro meter. The main thing is look at the blue gain in these measurements and the previous chart a couple of pages back. I used warm1 and had blue gain just a little lower than these numbers also BL at 2 in completely dark room with eco mode turned off.

I'm probably too cynical, but I see it all as marketing fluff that's just not going away in this space just yet. Clearly unless one knows what a picture setting actually does to the content presentation, it's left to users to futz around and experiment to try and figure it all out. I don't have the patience (absent visible flaws that pull me out of the content) to mess with it all regularly, so I leave it up to my brethren on AVS to sort it out for me biggrin.gif

I think that's very much true. Samsung really should be selling us advanced sets like these and leaving us with no concept of what the settings do or how different features affect the image. I mean, 2 different settings in the menu have the same description (black enhancer and black tone) yet do totally different things. I think it's totally unacceptable and we should be getting better communication from them.

Here is my part 2 Email I sent to the OOP's Office last night..

Hey Lisa,

The other issues is that when Samsung releases the Firmware updates, they all say the same thing. I've never had any Firmware updates from any other manufacture where they all say the same thing. I find this very strange and very unfair to us the consumers who own these products. There are so many that are afraid to update their TV because of this. Every Firmware update should explain exactly what it's updating. I think this need to be addressed as soon as possible before the next update comes along.

I really hope you can understand where I am coming from with all of this. I give Samsung a lot of money as well as my whole family and friends. I'm starting to think that maybe its time for my family and I to move on to something different. I mean, we are big Apple fans as well as Samsung and I don't even own an iPhone. I bought a Samsung Nexus instead. This is a big deal for me and should show you how much of a loyal consumer I really am.

I don't know if I am getting anywhere with these Emails and calls and Im not sure if I should also be sending these Emails to Mr. Kim in order for these issues to be resolved, or even noticed, but something has to give here. I'm really shocked that I haven't even received an Email back as of yet. I'm not used to this. When we have issues with our Electrolux appliances, they get settled right away. I've even had the President Email me in the past to make sure we're happy.

Samsung can't afford to lose their loyal customers and I feel as though it doesn't matter to Samsung or not. Samsung also can't afford to keep having Class Action Lawsuits filed against them.

Myself and others are waiting very patiently for some answers on this Micro Dimming technology that's used in our products which we have the right to know about. I hope we can get them very soon.

We need to be addressing these issue to the Office Of The Presidents office. Not doing so, will never get us anywhere

I have no idea at this point. I'm going to try and get Best Buy down and do a free calibration - I've got nothing to lose since it's free.

Can I ask them to do movie, standard, and a cal mode, or will they not do all that? Or is it necessary? I have the 7500 so I'm wondering if I even have a cal mode they can use? And if they do a calibration for say HDMI 2, will I then need them to do the same for HDMI 1? I use both so I need both ports calibrated. It sounds like 90 minutes doesn't leave much time. I heard somebody say a while back it's 4 hours. Do they really just give us 90 minutes? I guess they wouldn't do a 3D mode huh?

I just got in a nasty auto accident last night and my car's totalled. Luckily my girlfriend and I, and the other driver, were all okay other than some aches. Thankfully it shouldn't be our fault so hopefully we will get compensated by the other driver's insurance, but for now I have no car, so this is now my top priority for a bit. I hope I get lucky with a good calibration because then at least the color should look better.
