Official Samsung UNxxES8000 Owner's Thread - Page 24

Hey gamer,

Ya it's slightly more prominent than that pic but pretty close. The set seems to have improved. I never would have believed it had I not experienced the change myself. I hate the jump the gun, but I'm pretty sure this is a keeper. Strange to think a day ago I was adamant it was going back. On grey sky scenes I can see the banding, but not bothered enough by it to be concerned. I'm looking forward to nitro's calibration settings so I can see what this set can really do. I have to wonder now though, had I turned the backlight down from the first set I bought, the D7000, would I have even tried the D8000 and then the ES8000? I'm thinking I'm a grand out of pocket for something I could have been happy with. But, live and learn. I'm pleased with what I have now, so in the end that's all that matters.

Th ES8000 is not the last LED-TV series in 2012. There will be also the new ES9000 as leading LED flagship in September:

They need about 100-120 hours. That said, even after that there's still some adjustment that happens after 3-4 weeks of hanging, you will do well to massage it early, it will help readjust the movement from shipping.

Compared to the D series, your set looks very uniform.

Always have been a Sammy fan but was not happy with all this rebooting. Good luck with your set.

Keep in mind, the LG's are not Full 3D, the 3D images on them are half resolution.

I really wish they'd hurry up and get me my set so I could get some solid data back, settings etc. Alas it's still a week or 2 away.

Was the ECO sensor on?

There is new firmware posted for the es8000. Hopefully all issues are fixed!

No, I don't use the Eco sensor.

Just wanted to report on some of my flashlight issues. At first mine were pretty bad but I'm not sure if my set has broken in or what but they seem to be going away.

Another possibility is I'm using gamers settings (they look great by the way) the only thing I changed is having dynamic contrast on medium. I heard having this on was the only way to use micro dimming. With this on my flashlighting in the corners has almost disappeared, even in dark environments.

One last thing, this TV watching the IMAX scenes looks scarily sharp and realistic. Like it's weird to look at. I feel like I'm looking through a window. The IMAX aspect ratio fills out the TV correctly without letterbox and looks truly astounding.

You guys should try Gamers settings on page 23. The only difference is I use warm 1, backlight 14, and have dynamic contrast at medium.

Some of those setting can have some very horrid side effects, dynamic contrast can seriously crush blacks by 15+ levels and blow out whites. Warm2 is also the closest to 6500K which is industry standard for calibration. All movies and shows are filmed based at 6500k.

I just read this on the back of my TV.

Manufactured date : February 2012
Made in Tijuana Mexico

...................hmmm

I just updated the firmware to 1016. I'll post any changes.

That's where all the sets for NA are made. Parts will have come from all over the world, but assembly for Canada/USA is done in Mexico.

hmmm.. thanks for the info. but in reality I can't stand flashlighting, so I'd rather have that than those issues. And I did not know that about the color temps, thanks man.

Unfortunately I won't have my set for another week or two, once I do I'll get back to this thread with some detailed stats and calibration settings.

Glad you like the settings you can thank CNET as I just tweaked settings based on my time with this set and experience using last year's D8000. I also am looking forward to CNET releasing their new calibrations for this set in a couple weeks on their forum

As for the Micro Dimming Ultimate, I've never heard anything about it only being on when Dynamic Contrast is enabled. Last year's D8000 MD+ was enabled in part when "Smart LED" was on so it did kind of have an on/off (but was still separate from Dynamic Contrast)
M.D. Ultimate has been said to be "a kind of Dynamic Contrast" but that doesn't necessarily mean the features are one and the same

I believe the new "Black Enhancer" feature (not to be confused with "Black Tone") for 2012 utilizes the MD Ultimate. I also believe that MD Ultimate is already on (and improving detail which is why "Edge Enhancement" is no longer a selectable feature this year) and improving color and contrast to some degree as well

Agreed. Looking forward to your results in a couple weeks, and I hope you like your set when it comes in Best of luck

No problem man. As to your response on Micro Dimming, you are probably correct as I cannot rememeber the source that told me such so it probably wasn't reliable. The Black Enhancer could also be the reason why my flashlighting seemed to disappear as I had that off before I used your settings as well.

I'm very frustrated I don't have mine yet, I'd be able to detail everything after I spend an hour with it.

Just updated to the new firmware v.1016 via USB. It completely fixed my Game Mode issue where all the whites on screen turn pink until you switch sources then switch back (or power on/off the tv)
Game mode now works like it is supposed to

Woohoo! Mine as well. I only noticed last night when I was showing a buddy some settings and I was able to turn backlight up brighter without much flashlight effect.

Should I massage it while the screen is on or off?
And should I apply much pressure?

Massage it in circles or towards the edges?

Thanks in advance

I just updated to 1016 and still seem to have random restart issues while the network is connected. Is anyone else seeing this? If I unplug the ethernet cable the restarts seem to stop completely. They only started after I updated to 1015.

On another note - has anyone had any luck getting the TV to recognize a ps3mediaserver instance? My friend's D8000 works fine with the server, but so far the only one I seem to be able to use reliably with the ES8000 is the AllShare software.

I'm happy to report that most of my corner flashlighting is gone as well! I can still notice it very slightly, but I'd say it has improved to the point of being a non-factor. I'm glad I gave it some time to break in. I'm wondering if this was more of a cold start issue for me that has improved as the tv warmed up and has been used more often

On a separate note...anyone notice some lag with bluetooth remotes? I read that this lag translates over and is present on the new bluetooth wireless keyboard/touchpad combo that will be released soon. I believe the touchpad remote included with this set would be a lot more effective as a mouse and for scrolling if this lag wasn't present in the browser and elsewhere

My old bluetooth Qwerty key remote from last year has this lag as well (it still comes in handy when entering text). I notice the lag even when just scrolling thru menus and its kind of frustrating. But when I use the included RF remote no problems whatsover and much more responsive

I tested the lag on the RF vs Bluetooth by using my Qwerty remote and first scrolling thru the menu's on the RF side. Perfect. Next, flipped the remote over and scrolled using the arrow keys on the bluetooth Qwerty side....and the result was obvious. Bluetooth lags behind and is not as responsive as RF

I'm hoping this is something they can improve with a future update. Perhaps its just a byproduct of bluetooth technology but I never noticed it with any other non-tv related bluetooth devices that I've used in the past

Just dealt with those same sues last week. Samsung believes its a Dona issue, and that's what 1016 was supposed to fix. When I was having that issue I requested service, and they replaced the main board. Once they did I haven't experienced the restarting since. The overall service was excellent! For you I would recommend engaging Samsung via live chat on their support page and they will help with trouble shooting.

Is your TV on a network with a DLNA server on it? My best guess is that's what's triggering it, because as soon as I remove it from the network it stops.

I did have one before I was informed it was an issue. The rep had told me that they noticed certain DLNA servers were causing the TV's memory buffers to fill and this prompted the tv to restart in order to clear its buffers. It made perfect sense. He had also told me 1016 would fix this issue.

You'll need to edit one of the config files for ps3media server to work, I'll post details when I get home.
edit:

There's 2 ways to do this, for the time being, you can on your TV, edit the TV name under System/General, change it to [TV]UN55D7000

Alternatively

In the ps3mediaserver directory, head to the renderers directory.
Copy the SamsungAllShare.conf to another file called es8000.conf
If you have UAC turned on, edit the file as administrator.
Find the line UserAgentSearch=SEC_HHP_
Change it to UserAgentSearch=ES8000/1.0
Also, remove these lines
UserAgentAdditionalHeader=X-AV-Client-Info
UserAgentAdditionalHeaderSearch=(\\w{3}_\\w{3}_\\w{2}-\\w{2}\\d{2}\\w\\d{4}/\\d.\\d)|(\\w{3}_\\w{3}_\\[\\w{2}\\]-\\w{2}\\d{2}\\w\\d{4}/\\d.\\d)|(\\w{3}_\\w{3}_\\w{2}-\\w{2}\\d{2}\\w\\d{3}/\\d.\\d)|(\\w{3}_\\w{3}_\\[\\w{2}\\]-\\w{2}\\d{2}\\w\\d{3}/\\d.\\d)

Never _ever_ massage or clean in circles. If there's any particles that could possibly scratch, you will damage your panel in a very noticeable way.
