Official Samsung UNxxES8000 Owner's Thread - Page 29

Picked up the 60" today locally.

All I can say so far is WOW. The default settings are bright enough to light up a dungeon!

After turning a bunch of stuff off and dialing back the sharpness and others I've got it looking "normal" w/o what I can now say I understand is what people mean by the term "soap opera look". Initially this look was making me think I was going back to the store, but seems to be easily fixed.

After I've had it on a bit I'm going to run some rough calibration using the WOW disc and see how it performs.

Thanks for all the info in the thread, it's very useful.

Just wondering if the person who posted about their V-shaped cloud spot above the Samsung logo could update on the situation.

Did it stay gone? Did it really disappear in the first place? Did you change any settings?

Aside from 2 dead pixels which are NEVER noticeable during normal viewing, the set only suffers from the V-shaped cloud spot. I haven't had much time to "break in" the television, but I think I remember someone saying it eventually went away with normal use.

Is this true?

Also, I don't have ANY corner flashlighting or clouding, oddly enough. I am on the 46-inch model.

Curious, I set this up for one of my inputs since my receiver (Pioneer Elite SC-07) is HDMI 1.3a and Directv complains I'm not 3D ready since it needs 1.4 to detect the ability. When I use the optical cable back to my receiver I have only 2 options in the sound menu on the TV, PCM and DTS Neo 2:5, the others are grayed out. Is this normal?

Hi Swugly...

My first set didn't have the v of light above the Samsung logo out of the box, I noticed it suddenly appear after having the set for a few days...It disappeared three days later as suddenly as it had appeared...

Good to know you haven't any flashlighting or clouding. Sounds like you have a keeper as the v of light should disappear :-)

I didn't change any settings btw...It just went of it's own accord...

Good review, especially on the fact there is no clouding. I will be intrested when they review the hx850 next, which one they think is better.

... And another in-depth review here from a Danish site (Tweakers.net). Rating 4/5 stars due to issues with screen uniformity, clouding, and viewing angle. Some aspects apparently worse than last year's "D" series. No love for the speech or gesture recognition! Original is in Danish so the link below is via Google translate:

Just got my Samsung UN55ES8000 3hrs ago, still tryna figure things out atm. Got some slight clouding on the right hand side top and bottom and on the left near the center that I've noticed so far. Hopefully it will disappear with time as some people have posted. Will post some pic later when the sun sets if yall want. Does anyone know the pass code for the DTVBluetooth? I'm trying to sync it with my Ps3..

Ps. I hate the fact you got to manually calibrate each source connected to the tv.

I love that each source can be calibrated! Each device is different and needs different settings

So very true, what I meant by that was I wish there was an option of copying the settings you have in movie mode for HDMI 2 to the HDMI 3 instead of having to do it all over again. I too like the ability to customize the sources but lets say you like playing some games with the movie settings you calibrated on a difference source. Sorry for the confusion

I just rejected a shipment of my new 60" version of this television. It was damaged on arrival(bent silver piece that runs around the edge near the camera and a bulging back plastic panel). The question I have is, for the 55" version I watched an unboxing and it did not have the base installed on it out of the box. The 60" I received yesterday did have the base installed, and I want to know if that is the case for all of the 60" versions.

Any help would be appreciated, just want to make sure I didn't recieve a used t.v. instead of a new one like I ordered.

My new in box 60" had the base already installed, wrapped in foamish material and the bezel had the plastic on all of the chrome.

Something strange with that.

Yeah, this one had that same packaging. It looked like everything was legit the way it sat in the box, but I just wanted to be sure due to seeing that the 55" came without the base installed.

Frustrated, ordered the t.v. from Amazon, shipper called to scheduled a delivery this past friday. Scheduled some time off work for delivery and the shipping company calls me just as I'm leaving work to tell me they had not received the t.v. like they expected to and it would have to wait until Moday(yesterday). Get the t.v. in the house yesterday and it's all banged up.........that is going to cost someone I guess, just not me. If this thing doesn't come on Thursday(new arrival date set by Amazon) in perfect condition, I'm gonna think someone is trying to tell me something.

I didn't think it looked strange, but when he left with the t.v. I started thinking about the video I watched and had to ask the question. I've never had a problem with Amazon, so I'm hoping this isn't the first one.

Ok This is the 2 horizontal lines I'm seeing during vertical panning in movies that is driving me nuts!! It's got to be underneath the screen cause no settings will change this. ( D8000 )
I couldn't replicate it so I just used paint to point out where they are on the TV so you guys can give me some feedback if this is the norm & if I will have the the same issue if I exchange for an ES8000. Thanks

Posted this in the D8000 thread as well. The post above me as a screen shot running Windows Media Center which actually shows the lines. Check it out if u have a minute.
*EDIT* Just noticed my drawing is a lil off but you get the gist lol

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad this is the case, now all I have to do is get the damn thing, damage free, from the shipper!

Has anyone found some great settings for gaming yet? There's been settings for movies and although those setting look good and can be carried on to viewing games, I'm curious to know if anyone found new settings that look wonderful, specifically for gaming (Although competitive games should be in game mode)

I posted some settings on p.23. There are even settings tweaked specifically for Game Mode and 3D as well

Here are some pictures taken from Batman Dark Knight Blu ray (Ps3 as player) Settings were the same as gamermwm only difference being that I had the backlight at 10 instead of 13. Had to take these while movie was in motion as there was a annoying video stream thing that wouldn't disappear if paused a little bit below the center of the screen..

Well I wish clouding was completely gone but alas it's present during a all dark scene such as end credits and 3D which is a given since the backlight is cranked so high, I haven't really noticed any banding however. I got my set Monday afternoon so hopefully once given enough break-in time the clouding and flashlight will decrease

That's the banding issue many have discussed in all these threads. I had 3 bands on my D8000, the ES800 I have no has NONE. Call samsung and go through the process of having it checked, they will at first replace the panel, you might get lucky and get a new panel that is good. If they can't fix it they will more then likely allow you to return it and you can get an ES800, that is what occurred in my case.

Very happy with my ES8000.

Thanks for the reply. I would go the Samsung route except my friend is doing the exchange and I would have to pay the difference since I'm going from 55-60" if I got the ES8000. I wanted some feedback from ES owners to see if the $1,000 difference is worth it.

If you go from a 55" D8000 to a 55" ES8000 do you have to pay a difference?
