P.S This was taken from a directv hd recording from hbo. The movie was in hd but my camera is ******.

I think what I'm seeing is simply compression artifacts heavily effected by Sharpness being way too high, which it is out of the box, possibly combined with a mode like Dynamic. Check out the Guide in my signature and scroll down to the calibration section. In my opinion, the first thing you should do is turn Sharpness down to between 0 and 20. A lot of us thought our TVs were broken when we first turned it on for that very reason. Good luck and congrats on your purchase! Keep us up to date.

Looks like Sanctum. Watched it last night, and it looked incredible. Definitely looks like artifact to me as well. Garnoch has offered a good remedy.

Well, my 4 month old 55es7500 is definitely not feeling well. Last night, while streaming music from my AVR, the display on the TV went crazy. There is supposed to be a black background with white text, but there was nothing other than green and red digital blocks and strangeness....like a digital impressionist painting of a circuitboard. Nothing legible at all, just digital strangeness. The television turns itself off, them quickly on every minute or so. The normal splash screen comes up upon turning itself on, then dissapears as the digital impressionist painter once again takes control. The only way to stop the cycle is to unplug the set.
I thought it may be mt AVR, since everything is connected there and then HDMI out from the receiver to the TV. I change to my PVR in to the receiver, and all was good for hours. All is good until I hit the Menu button on the TV remote, and the same madness begins. I got things going OK again, and turned the AVR off. I turned on the TV, and got the expected "Nothing is connected, check your input connection" screen. Then, with the AVR still off, I hit the Menu button on the TV again. Instantaneously the digital madness begins again.
I have a service call set for next week, Thursday the 27th. I hope the tech isnt hung over from the 26th.
Oh well......what can ya do, right?

Tech was to come Thursday. Luckily, he's in my area today, so he's going to stop by just to have a look at whats happening so he'll have the right parts Thursday.
Fingers crossed this all goes well.

Thanks.
Well, he said he's seen vertical lines that appear ontop of the picture, but not anything like our set is doing.
He thinks it is a bad control board, or bad panel.
Whichever, he'll repair inhome ( good. Didnt really want the set lugged around.).
Panel has to be ordered in, but hell try the board first.

Voice & Motion control is also effective if all your video sources are properly integrated on the touch remote & IR blaster. Once it's done there's no need for the other remotes. I think it's much better than a Harmony. IMHO.

Possible to post a pic of your setup where you added that ambient light?

thank you for your time

So I received my http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006CRXK4S/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 glasses today. I haven't had a chance to watch a movie yet but they already are an upgrade over the glasses that came with the set. They FIT over my glasses. What a blessing. They do block out surrounding light which is much nice. And since they fit over my glasses they feel MUCH more comfortable. I'm charging them up and will watch some UP 3D tonight if possible.

Let us know how they work out...I am ready to pull the trigger if they are worth it

Just tested out all those settings plus more. Tbh it made the problem worse and other people in the room agreed. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Just finished Up. Glasses are slightly heavier than the ones supplied with the TV. Pairing the glasses was similar as well. As I stated earlier, they fit over my glasses and were quite comfortable and didn't have to constantly adjust them.
I don't believe there was any improvement over the supplied ones, but these glasses made watching a 3D movie much more enjoyable. If you are a person who wears glasses and hates the standard ones, I highly recommend these ones. They are a little pricey but they fit better and they are rechargeable which makes them more a good value imo.

In that case, I would say consider exchanging it if you can, or if not, contact Samsung. There is someone who had this issue and it was actually confirmed by Samsung not to be compression artifacts enhanced by the Sharpness setting. That person first had two boards replaced but that didn't help so they were going to replace the panel but decided to just replace the whole TV.

hello Morpheus,
Could you try my settings from post 8007. Also, best would be to use a bluray player because sometimes I think that other non-HD sources like STB distort the material you are watching.
take care

Man I need to get out more, waisting time "defending" a tv...
Happy Holidays!

FWIW, I've never had to "defend" any TV/display I've ever owned, whether cheap or expensive simply because none of my family nor any of my friends or co-workers who've been over to watch it have so much as a single freaking clue what 'calibration' or any of the several terms bantered about in this forum even mean. They are simply awe-struck by how utterly magnificent the (properly adjusted) picture looks TO THEM after watching their own display in its garish, out-of-the-box "Torch Mode"

I have a 65" ES8000 purchased in August. Nov. 15, I had the front panel replaced because of vertical banding, and the replacement panel was better, but still had significant banding. The owner of the Samsung authorized repair shop refused to authorize another panel, even though I thought the banding was still excessive.
Now a new problem has gradually appeared. Using Movie mode, backlight (17), brightness (46), and gamma (set at 0, measured at 2.21 by Calman5) are set so there is no clouding on bright scenes. Eco mode, Dynamic contrast, and Black tone are all off. Dark scenes have become way too dark in the past two weeks. Shows like NCIS, Blue Bloods, and any dark movie are much to dark, with little or no detail because the scene is way too dark.
On another forum, a poster suggested this was CE dimming, but isn't it supposed to be off in Movie mode?
I have filed another repair request with Samsung, making sure to have a different service center, because I want the banding, as well as the too dark scenes evaluated by someone different. I expect to hear from them tomorrow, and am going to ask for another new panel, as well as troubleshooting this dark issue.
Any ideas from anyone who has seen anything similar.

Someone once complained those had a yellow tint to them. Can you confirm if that's true?

Hi,

I own a Samsung UN55ES8000. Now I've been enjoying this TV for a few months now, except for one major
annoyance, HBO GO. The website says that it's supported on the UN55ES8000 HBO Go Compatible list.

Have anyone of you guys been able to get HBO Go working on a UNXXES8000 device; especially the UN55ES8000?

Thank you,

I'm sorry to hear that. It definitely worries me that the 65 I've asked to get replaced might fall into a similar situation as yours and have me kick myself for not returning for refund instead. Maybe you could share how you got a different service center so the others, like me, know what to do if we get into that situation?

I spoke with a Samsung rep, and told him about my issue with the Service Center (The banding is better on the replacement panel, but it is still noticeable, and I told them I was not happy and wanted another panel) The owner stated he was not going to authorize another panel replacement. I told the Samsung rep that I was not satisfied with the service center's decision, and that I was not comfortable having them come into my house and make a decision on my television again--I asked for another service center in my area.
I told him about my new issue with dark scenes being way too dark, and he agreed to authorize the new service center to look at both issues when then comes to check on it. I told the Samsung rep that I was very unhappy with my Samsung purchase (two repair requests in a 4 month period), and if this was not handled to my satisfaction, my next call was to someone higher up to authorize a refund. He was very nice throughout the entire conversation, as was I, and I at least got off the phone feeling a little better. I am still having feelings of buying the wrong product, but a fixed television will go a long way toward making those feelings go away smile.gif

Thanks for sharing that! Good to know your also getting good response from the Samsung side. I feel they are committed to making it right, even if they may not be 100% able to. If they just cut my banding down to where I have to out of my way to see it I'd be happy.

Individual blocking doesn't work because of others replying to his OT posts, ergo even with a block you still see them..
If everyone would stop feeding the troll he will leave to pester some other forum. For now he's ours to ignore.
This now makes two posters to this forum I have blocked so that I too am not tempted to feed them smile.gif

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming, already in progress.....
Is the 65" ES the only ES experiencing the banding?
What about the new 75ES9000?
Just calibrated my es8000 for my living room and I got it looking decent. No flash lighting or that nasty V of cloud. Im running movie mode. Kids are loving it.

Love the color on the ES in Movie Mode with Custom.

For Standard Mode which is more accurate, Auto or Native?

Currently I'm using Custom that is set to/shared with Movie Mode.

Movie Custom color and Standard Custom color can't be set independently.

hello
In Movie mode, I made measurements and I did not find a big difference between Auto, Native and Custom (with standard settings). But I have not done measurements in Standard mode. I might have some time next week to do that.
