Please IM me and talk to me about how you have your NAS setup, and your movies on it. I want to do this, I have a ReadyNAS NV+, and would like to have all the DVDs put away and just have the digital storage on the NAS. Do you mind discussing with me your setup and process?

Unfortunately, they only accept DVDs for the $5.00 coupon for the promotion I believe. I know many people have gone to the dollar store, picked up 5 $1.00 dvds and took them to BB for five $5.00 coupons (i think you can only trade/redeem 5 per visit).

Thanks, I've thought about getting ATV3. Does Handbrake have a rip to 1080 setting? The version I have has ATV2 but not ATV3.

Ok, so I can take 5 of my old pain DVDs in for a $5 coupon I see, thats the deal.
I have a lot of old plain DVDs, not a lot of BluRay, guess this could start me towards replacing all of my DVDs for BluRay.
The OCD in me would like to have a BluRay for all of my current plain DVDs but looking at my collection I don't need them all or watch many anymore.

I need to make a pile of plain DVDs that I want to for sure upgrade to BluRay, then another pile of ones I can just trade in and not care about or replace.
There is a lot of junk in my collection. Anywhere else do trade ins? A place that is more than 5 at a time?

Ok guys now you're starting to talk my language. I'm a whole Apple/Mac house, I have two Apple TVs, I think ATV3, the one that went 1080p, is that the latest? I had Apple TV 2 which was just 720p but of course had to upgrade, so I guess I'm on ATV3? Anyway, I've been looking for a way to rip my movies and blurays and have a digital copy/collection all mine so I can box them away. I haven't found a good way to get the 1080p picture from any DVD or BluRay, and well don't have a BluRay ripper either. I've ripped a few of my movies using handbrake for testing, but maybe I'm not using the right settings? They seem to have this interlaced/lined look to them, no matter if on the Mac computer or TV. So maybe we can discuss how you are ripping your collection of DVDs and BluRays and getting great pictures etc?

I just want to know how I can rip a DVD or BluRay and get the best possible picture, just as if I had the disc in the player, or is this not possible?
Are you just ripping the disc then storing all those files, so no compressing them to a single file etc? Basically like copying whats on the disc to a NAS/HDD etc?
Maybe thats my issue, the trying to compress to a single file?

The Mac version I have has AppleTV 3 setting.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, I was there when he calibrated the TV, he did not use cal-day/night and I agree the set looks washed out at night, I decided to give Best Buy a call back about it

No other picture mode was calibrated, he did not seem to know about cal-day/night (neither did I at the time) and he told me color space to Native was right the right setting (not sure how I can prove him otherwise)

I'm not sure what to do at this point other than waiting to be called back and hope they can redo the calibration, any advice on how to confront this issue would be appreciated

Other places will only give you pennies on the dollar so I recommend saving DVDs for this promotion. They do it 2 or 3 times per year.

Wow, awesome! So basically everyday my wife and I could go up there with 5 each, so 10 DVDs each, we could get through the entire collection before that promo is over. There are 2 Best Buys in our area, more if we drove a bit. This might be what we do.

never used plex...

is it free? do i need it only on the tv or on windows too?

btw does it support .srt subtitles when playing 3d files? or do they need some work...?

It's the spot down and a little to the left that is bugging me. It's pretty bad when I don't look directly at it.

yes. The dark room was because of my ****** camera.

I see it whenever the screen goes dark, even if all the lights are on in my livingroom

btw how de we get into the es8000 media player? is there a button? can't find it... :/

If you are referring to the faint "V" flashlighting where the left hand part of the V is on the lower left middle that can be seen in your pic? Then no, you should be fine. Try setting BL at around 5 and see if that makes a difference in a dimly lit room using backlights. People advised me that it would lessen as the set "relaxed" or "broke in" and it did indeed lessen to where the blacks were great.

So I just got my 60 inch 8000 set up . Have not started to adjust the picture , trying to get the smart hub set up. I am hard wired to my network . On the tv side when I go to the menu it finds and sets up my network with no problem , When I go into the smart hub and try to click on any app or the internet it says no network connection . Which is strange because it logs me into my Samsung account . I called the help line and they are researching the issue . Any one have this issue ?

I am having the same network connection issue. All my downloaded apps disappeared from the Smarthub even though I am hard-weired (connected) to the Internet. It actually happened twice this week. I checked the network menu and I am connected to the net.

My TV is pretty new, a few weeks, I haven't setup my Smart Hub stuff yet either, and I'm hard wired in as well. I'll try what you are doing and see if I get a similar action.

Thanks , its just does not make sense , I can log into my samsung account and it shows that is connected and from the tv side it says my network is fine , but no network for apps or internet . It will even let me go thru the network setup on the smarthub side which goes fine, but if I then launch a app it will come back with no network ???? Seems to be a not so smart smart hub !

Ha Ha.... Smart_(not conned)_Hub ..... I am also logged in by the way. Apps are slowly re-appearing by themselves. Last time I lost all my apps specific settings.

I'm also having problems with smart hub (I have a D7050), I can't open a single app, not even the browser. Maybe a maintenance?, did anyone got a message?

Well , I just turned on the TV , it stills says I am not connected.....................but it also started doing app updates . I think I will let it think for awhile !

Ha, yes a chance. That's all I'll really give it. Grain of salt type thing but I've now seem PQ enhancements mentioned twice in actual Samsung stuff. We'll see. They need to keep the price down though. I hope they pay attention to forums like this, because the general public will have no idea what it is and pass. They're not going to sell a ton of these and the people that would buy them is us, so if we are saying it better not be too expensive and it turns out that it is, then they aren't going to sell crap.

Double Post - so I'll use to to simply say....

I'll check my hub when I get home but a few people now have had on and off issues with it over the past couple days, so I'd say Samsung is messing with stuff and it may not be your TV or network.

Garnoch, being an apple guy...what format are your movies in? Well the ripped purchased ones that is. I'm kind of trying to decide what I want to do with my movie library right now, as far as formats for my movies. I've been using some application on my Mac Pro called "RipIT" which I think actually uses HandBrake to rip and then does some of its own compression, to put it into MP4 format. I think? I'm not sure. I think what really has bugged me about this process is that most of the movies I've ripped, have been normal DVD and they look crappy ripped, or even just using the disc. I say this and I haven't actually tested them out in my older BluRay player, for any up conversion on my new LED ES8000. So this brings lots of other questions to my mind. If I really just want that 1080p look on my TV via digital rips, then I need to probably get an external bluray drive for my Mac and rip them with that, but to what format? MKV? MP4? What apps? Someone showed me the MakeMKV application for Mac today which says it will rip a BluRay, but it doesn't do any compression/conversions. So I guess I'd have all kinds of space to worry about if ripping BluRay (1080p) to hard drives?

I guess I'm trying to make my movie library as cool as my music one, I mean iTunes will rip a CD of music, import the information and album art, and store it on my storage of choice, compressed. Why can't it be this easy for movies?

What is the difference in MKVs and MP4s etc...Most of my devices are Apple, but I have the new Samsung TV now, I know from some previous posts that the Plex Media Server will see the MKVs and even play them via the app on the TV, and there is also a Mac version of the Media Server, but I also have the Apple TV which kind of does the same thing. So I'm in this cloud of smoke trying to figure out what is best for me and my devices and what not. Does iTunes see MKV files? Should I convert all my movies to MKV?

I just want the best possible picture for each movie, I want the movie info and art, and I want it to show up in home theater via Apple TV and/or Plex or whatever. It seems ATV3 and Plex have nice UI's and UX's so that is why they are in my realm of use and what I'm hoping to find a solution for both.
