FlexRaid alternative? - Page 5

Flexraid is not hard to set up and it installs as software inside of windows. I'd argue it's probably easier to set up actually.

My main question about Disparity is does it do a snapshot parity, or just real time.

If I am changing from unRAID to something that runs on windows (for a media server only) I truly believe that a snapshot parity will be the best way to go since performance is already bogged down by the heavyweight and bloated OS.

I'll give it a shot when the system upgrade I have is done with the preclear that it is running now.

It only does snapshot parity, no real time at all. It can only use one parity drive, so if multiple parity drives are what you desire you need to look elsewhere.

uggg.... I need to find something other than FlexRAID as well. I thought I would buy it, but I have been trying it for a week and it has not performed well at all. It frequently hangs on validate and verify commands. The RAM (8 GB) fills up and it just sits there. When I try to shutdown or reboot, Windows says it is performing operations and it hangs. I have managed to do one restore command successfully. I will try to simulate a HD failure by spontaneously disconnecting a drive. After that I do a refresh, and FlexRAID still shows all my drives as healthy, even though one is physically disconnected... I then access my pooled drive and it hangs as usual. I reboot, and try to validate - it hangs. I have only had the trial a week, but now it wont let me continue trying it. It wants a registration key even though I have a week left on my trial.

It really sucks that there isnt really a better solution to get a backup parity drive on windows. I dont want to build yet another computer just for unRAID, but I suppose that is the only option I have...

Heh, good advice, Im about 30mins ahead of ya though. I have disparity updating a parity drive right now. Ill spend a few days playing around with it and trying to break it. Looks simple enough and good enough. Doesnt have all the features of FlexRAID, which I would like to have. But I think this will fit the bill, if it runs smooth and works consistently.

You might have some sort of driver incompatibilities. I saw people having similar problems on the FlexRAID forums. Post your issue there.

I have been using disparity for some time. I actually like the simplicity, for it simplicity means less to break.

What's wrong with SnapRAID? Runs great on my boxes.

I did not like that it is command line based. I know there is elucidate, but that has always lagged quite a bit behind.
