LG 50PZ950 EDID Information with Ubuntu 11.10 and Nvidia

Hey guys,

I just noticed this when reinstalling my HTPC box this weekend. I use to run Ubuntu with XBMC as a HTPC. Hardware consists of a Gigabyte Mainboard with a Core2Duo E8400, 2 GB of Ram and a Nvidia GT520 VGA card. I had it hooked up to a Panasonic 46PZ80 for years, and everything regarding display modes, xorg.conf etc. went just fine. Now I have a LG 50PZ950 for about 3 months. My display modes in XBMC still work fine, but now when I reinstalled my HTPC I noticed, that I couldn't change anything resolution or refresh rate related in "Nvidia-Settings" tool. My display is also shown as "disabled" there. Still the Desktop is displayed at 1920x1080 as it should be. Refresh rate is fixed though at 60hz. Still no biggy, but I'd prefer my usual 50hz PAL frequency.
Anyway, strange enough that I am not able to change anything resolution/refresh related in nvidia-settings, I checked the xorg log file. It tells me somethin like EDID says the 50PZ950 can only do 57-61hz vertical refresh rate. So I went on and checked the actual edid.bin.
In there I can only see two ! resolution/frequency combinations. 2 times 1920x1080 and one time 60.xxx hz, the other time 59.xxx hz.
In my eyes something is seriously wrong with the EDID info my plasma offers.
Anyone else here with a LG plasma that could check their EDID info?
Maybe any other ideas what could be wrong here with my setup? I'd really love to get my correct EDID information back, without having to start fiddeling with modelines in xorg.conf.

Thanks

boba

Take a look at this Mythtv wiki page:

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/User_Manual:JudderFree

Skip the mythtv portion but look at the part for xorg. It will help you set things up to get xrandr working and lists the mode lines...
