Most likely the pj isn't level? Check that, then square up the image onto the wall/screen tilting/rotating the mount, then adjust the image left/right/up/down using the lens shift dials. There is a noticable indention, you can feel on the horz dial, to know where the center should be. Avoid using the keystone settings if possible.

I have now upgraded the european TW9000 (swedish) with the US 104 firmware and it works like a dream,i had to do virtual XP on a windows 7 home premium laptop.

Thank you guy's for the link.

I've downloaded the files.
I'm going to try it out on my TW9000W.
I'll let you guy's know.

EDIT:
I've put the firmware on my projector now.
I have Windows 7 Proffesional on my computer, but I still had to download Windows Virtual PC and than XP Mode.
That took me a while, but the Update went very well.
You can use XP Mode in a window on your Windows 7 together.
Now that is beautyfull.

Warning: For the foilks who payed for a calibration and want to upgrade your firmware.

The settings stay the same, BUT the colors will have a huge change in the projector after the Update.
So those settings don't mean anything after the Update.
That means that your projector need to be calibrated again.
The picture has much more Red in it now.
The projector is smoother indeed.
I got from FW 100 to FW104, so to me I see a difference.

On Tuesday I will callibrate my projector again and than I shall see how far it is off.
But as I can see now it is a lot.
I think that is a good thing though.
After 350 Hours or so on the lamp, I could not get my Primary colors in the triangle on there place anymore in Natural mode.
I believe they enlarge the colorspace, so I'll hope it can be done after the Update now.
I'll let you guy's know.

Maybe when you payed for calibration, you can go back a few times, which is normally the service they give.
Most of the time that will be after 200~250 hours, and 1000~1200 hours on the lamp, so if you did not have your second calibration yet, it is probably worth to Upgrade afterall.

I use Fast.
I did some testing of the iris last night and did notice that it's now quieter.
It still has a slight rummble when it goes from a bright to completely black picture but it's definitely a lot quieter.

The Super Resolution now makes adjustments on the lower scale but you will need to display a text/focus calibration still picture to see the fine adjustments.
When you get to around 3 and higher, you can start seeing ringing around the text.

The PQ to me looks the same before and after the 1.04 update on 2D movies.

Watched a 3D movie and the panning scenes still are not smooth, unlike 2D which is now smoother on panning scenes with out the need for FI.
3D PQ looks about the same before the upgrade.

That link is for the US models 5010/6010 firmware update, but several people have used it on the European 9000W model with success. We haven't seen an "official" FW for the 9000W yet.
I know the TW9000 version exist but it is only available through service centers here in Australia......so it's all about leaking it out or getting an official release.
I used it on my TW9000W and it works fine.
All the units are coming from Japan afterall.
I saw TW8000 mentioned in the firmware, so I think you're good to go with this one.
If someone places a special TW9000 version, I shall try that one out to see if it makes any difference, but I don't really think it will be an actual different Firmware except in name maybe.
Another TW9000W EU model upgraded with the new US firmware 104.
If you look at the 104 firmware in a fileeditor and do a search you will find the model TW8000 and TW9000 and 5010/6010,i used that firmware for my TW9000 and i think that all people that has upgraded their TW9000 uses that firmware.
I used it and everything works and my TW9000 (european swedish) is much happier now.

Forget wat I said.
It was by sight, not by messuring and Iwas extra focussing while just started the projector.
The first few minutes my colors are always a bit off.
After 15 minutes or so my lamp is stable and the projector looks awesome.
The rule is, not to calibrate, or even final-focus your projector in the first 30 minutes.
After that the projector is stable.
When I calibrate, I put on the TV or Projector and than set koffie and place the equipment haha.

Your calibration will be fine and your THX setting too.
I even think that Epson keeps the THX in mind when updating the firmware.

I'm really suprised at how long the 5010 takes for the colors to settle when first firing it up. Very green for a full minute or more. Is this actually the LCD panels that are warming up, and not the bulb? This is the first 3-panel LCD projector I've owned, all my previous three projectors were DLP, so I don't know if this is normal for LCD.

My last projector was an Optoma HD20, and it had correct color pretty much immediately, and bulb/video was up to full brightness in a matter of 10 seconds...

I have a laptop with Windows xp peofessional, so this should work for the firmware update. But when i have downloaded the files and open the idol 3.0.5 it just say: vbmcom.ocx does not exist. What does that mean, and what am I doing wrong?

Did you run the install.bat file from the C:\\Epson\\IDOL3.0.5 folder? Read the last paragraph on page 5 of the instructions file...

Just updated my TW9000 (UK model) with the US firmware. Worked a treat first time round
post #262 of 430
First of all, thanks for all the great info on the firmware update. I have a 6010 which had version 100. I went through all of the instructions in the PDF supplied by Epson. I have confirmed that I am on ver. 104 now. The problem is that 3D appears much worse. Very choppy with any movement. I've been looking at a bunch of stuff (Avatar, HTTYD, Thor) and they don't look as good as they did before. Is it possible that the update didn't complete? I did have an issue when first trying the update. The progress stalled at around 28% and I had to start over. The second time worked fine though. One other weird thing... I have an Integra 80.2 pre/pro and so I got the ORemote for my iPad. When I'm watching regular movies (2D) the video input and output signals are at 1080P (1920X1080 60Hz.) When I put in a 3D movie it switches to 1980X2047 24Hz resolution for both input and output resolution. I never looked at it before the upgrade and it may be totally irrelevant but I thought that was a weird resolution value. I have the Oppo BDP-93 for Blu Ray.

Any thoughts? Should I try it again? Could there be other settings that got messed up along the video chain? I'm catching $#@! from my wife as to why I had to mess with a good thing rolleyes.gif

I'd check with Epson support about trying the update again, that resolution seems strange. A couple of discussions regarding handshake issues with those components here, not sure if they could be related though? Is there, or have you updated the FW on the Oppo?

I guess you checked your 3D settings in the player and pj?

Thanks for the links jnabq. Luckily I'm not having the issues mentioned there around HDMI inputs. I only use the HDMI 1 input on the 6010 that comes directly from the 80.2. I did upgrade to the latest Oppo firmware (BDP9X-66-0413.) 3D mode is set to Auto. I tried setting the 1080P24 Output to Off but 3D movies still come out at 24Hz (and at the weird resolution.) Maybe that setting only effects 2D movies. Not sure what to check on the 6010. I haven't made any changes to those settings. 3D Display is "On", 3D Format is "Auto."

Did anyone get a chance to play with firmware 106?

One issue that's been a real issue seems to be IR interference from other displays (e.g., an LCD in the same room). 106 is supposed to help with that.

If anyone has additional information...

I have a UK version the TW9000 and the 3D performance is awful, the movement is really jerky. I have firmware 103 installed, so would like to update it before it is calibrated in 3 weeks time.

Does anyone have a copy of the 106 firmware they can PM me?

cheers

Steve

You must be the ONLY ONE having a problem with 3D.

I would check with Epson. It is NOT a FW issue.
