Ummm.. who's angry about the AE100 being here?

I thought the poll was started by Altaman, not by you. Therefore, I don't understand your point about what "you" wanted to know. Also, in your first post re the poll, you stated: "I really see no reason for a discussion," further undermining your point that, from your perspective, the purpose of the thread was merely informational. Thus, I believe my initial point has validity, i.e., I think the poll was started not for the reasons you state, but to make another point, and I submit that some of the responses on both sides are driven by the issue of whether the forum split is appropriate. If I am wrong, then I retract what I said. (Of course, this also demonstrates why polls are often not very revealing.)

The poll was clearly started in response to ALan's statement that the AE100 is a "presentation projector" and not a "HT projector". If you were following the events yesterday, then it was clearly the case.

And while I didn't start this thread and see no reason for the discussion, others apparently saw the need. I am truly puzzled at those who are using the AE100 for as a PC display device and who have responded as such. I don't see any point in fighting with the admins on where these things should be posted--- it's they're board, they call the shots. Certainly this poll is going to have no bearing on that.

Do you really think that Alan's going to change his mind and say: "Oh, the AE100 is a HT projector... move it over to the $5000 and up board"? Why would that be? THe MSRP is the deciding factor not it's HTness.

I just spent $10K and a lot of friggin time building my own cave-like room (materials and hired help) for my cheapo projector and $6K in HT A/V stuff.
What does a dedicated HT room have to do with choice of PJ or the forum you should post in?

I belong over at the CRT forum - and That's where I'll stay from now on!

I drop by the digital forum now and then - to read a bit, maybe learn something, but I think all this nit-picking, and childish remarks are uncalled for. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that it's mostly coming from the under-thirty crowd - because over at the CRT forum I don't see any of this behavior (there is the occasional flame - but it is rare)

I'll continue to enjoy the AVS forum - but I think I'll stick to the CRT forum where I belong. - low key intelligent conversation and helpful questions and solutions.

....one last word to all the whiners (you know who you are) - Grow-up and enjoy life - it's too short to waste time on such silly pursuits.

Gotta love those folks who gonna pull a Cartman (take their toys and go home) but have to have the last word (which usually comprises a half dozen paragraphs) that generally is nothing more than whining about other people whining.

So, is stereotyping and discrimination the new order of the day here? I'm 25, stay mostly on the digital forums (fora?), and have not witnessed any reprehensible behavior there. I HAVE seen CRT regulars step in and flame-bait, though, you being the latest example.

I have also posted on the CRT forum. Great place, with some very helpful regulars. I don't think I can include you in that list, however.

Given the tone of your post, I doubt you belong there after all.

Sounds like maybe those CRT guys are feeling a little lonely so don't pick on 'em. Pretty soon CRT will be dead and there'll be no need for a CRT Forum at all, while there probably be three or four or more for digital. :)

Yes, soon my CRT will be dead (boo-hoo)...then I'll have to figure out which of the 10 digital sections to post in...question is, will there by one section devoted to "digital pj's that put out a good picture"...I sure hope so. ;)

One post may have mentioned it, perhaps I missed it, but how much does this little machine cost?

If I were a complete newbie looking for a projector I'd come to AVSForum. I'd look at the titles for the 2 digital projector forums and I'd select the sub $5000 one unless I had the $$$ to go over $5k. If I saw a $1400 projector in the $5K and above forum I would be quite confused. Leave it in this forum.

You see, we digital boys have to stop fighting amongst ourselves and face the common enemy - the CRT guys! I bet this whole thing was a subversive plot started by CRT owners who are just trying to divide and conquer the digital horde! :p

I find it rather amusing someone would classify a 16x9 projector and one that is clearly directed towards HT use as a presentation pj. Odd and somewhat silly.

I think that some folks are still saying that the AE100 is not a presentation projector. You might have missed this earlier in the thread:

IMO, "Home Theater" is a presentation. Check out the FBI warning at the beginning of any DVD you watch and read the warnings against unauthorized presentation of the content of the disc. You use your AE100 to watch DVD, right?

Yes, the AE100 is a projector designed to provide a presentation...just like the Sharp 9000, the Seleco NT300, the JVC G15 and every other projector and RPTV ever made.

Your poll could have been better worded if you had used two terms that were more polar and less inclusive. The word "presentation" should not have been it the question at all, since it includes both pie chart presentation and DVD presentation. Maybe using words like "Home Theater" vs. "Business Graphics" would have worked.

...or "residential" vs. "commercial".

...or "movies" vs. "slide shows".

Yes, of course this projector was designed for a presentation. They all are!

Altman, the AE100 is a great presentation projector that works great as a HT projector!! Now you have to start a poll asking if all of the HT projectors can also be used as presentation projectors!!! LOL

I bought my AE100 because of the great responses on this forum and the fact that I did not want ( could not afford!!) any thing more expensive.
So far I have been very pleased!! ( understatement ) with my purchase.
While I use this for displaying Films(movies) I would not hesitate using this projector for giving a presentation.

I had to go to a class given by my company for a new Trouble ticket system where they used a Mitsubishi projector for showing a large room full of people how the system worked..
this was done on a laptop in 800x600 mode, in a dark conference room, and I have to tell you that the computer text ( windows 2000 pro ) looked terrible! I use my Pany with a HTPC and the text looks much better! the colors much brighter!

I would like to see some polls like these..
1: is the AE100 worth the money spent?
2: Does any other projector ( ht, business presentation, dila, dlp crt ) give you more value for your money?
3: What other projector would make a better first purchase?

I am interested in information so when I do purchase something I can get the most for my money; like most everyone else that reads this forum. I just don't understand what people are getting angry about?

Can I watch a movie with the ae100? Yes. Does it look above average? Yes. Can I use the AE100 for presentations? Yes. Can't figure out why you'd want to differentiate, although I should point to the fact that the ae100 is one of the only 16:9 LCD PJ's and that should count for something towards home theater, but I could care less what its classiffied as. If it actually was sold as a presentation projector, it would be become just as much a home theater projector out of end use anyways.

I respect your position because I know you have some tough decisions to make knowing full well that you can’t please everyone. Having said that I believe the split should have been drawn on terms other than price or perceived HT quality. A separate forum dealing with problems of purchases or a forum rule to stop questions about tax, duty, or shipping charges would have addressed this issue in a better matter. There will be many more of us AE100 or other “inexpensive†projector users and there is more power in numbers and draw from advertisers for this forum. I for one hope that projectors will continue to improve in quality and decrease in price much like PC’s have done. This elitus attitude is unbecoming to a forum that has been known to help others.
