Which of these three subs would be best fit...

OK, have a Pioneer VSX-821K receiver and the Energy Take 5 satellite speakers:

Which of these three subs would be the best fit for this setup

90% Movies 10% Music

1) Lava Subs 10" Subwoofer https://www.lavasubs.com/10_inch/pow...subwoofer.html

2) Bic F12 Subwoofer
http://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-F1...1570528&sr=8-1

3) Elemental Designs A2-300
http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=407

They all three come out to around the same price (the ED would be a used purchase as the first two would be new

Thank you so much for any and all info you can provide to me in advance!

You guys are the best!

I'd go with the A2-300. I'll also add the Premiere Acoustics PA-150 to that list.

The important question here is this: how big is your room (LxWxH)?

Either the ED A2-300 or I would add the Energy S10.3. The Energy has an enviable frequency response.

I will second this.

Thought I would chime in and add some friendly advise as well. I will go ahead and just "assume" your budget is around the $260 price and your room size is around the 12/14 x 20 area.

At the $260 mark I would suggest maybe these:
1) Bic Pl-200 for $260 or so shipped ( I had two of these as they were very good at HT
2) Premiere Acoustic PA-120 about $220 or so shipped * build quality very good- I have the PA-150

I have seen the Bic F-12 as low as $185 shipped thu amazon and such as I do believe they run specials from time to time. IHMO I would take the PL-200 over the F-12 thou

I have not herd the ED A-2 but it seems to please those who have them.

Lava seems to be IMHO not as a great deal even at $200 as you can get a PA-120 for around $220

Just for thoughts here:
"IF" you are looking to maybe get into a bit larger sub I would highly reccomend the PA-150 but then again its a bit more $ than the $260 as it can be had for around the $370 area ( shipped that is).

Remebr thou... its just my thoughts

It will be used in my family/living room:

It measures 15' wide by 16' long and has 8' ceilings

Thanks!

Save a bit more and shoot for the PA150.

As someone who owned an A2-300, I would have two concerns on buying used:
- Amp
- Driver

There have been many failures on the A2-300 amp and it will most likely no longer be under warranty buying used since eD's warranty is 12 months. So keep in mind that a new amp is around $120-130 shipped.

The driver has a warranty (I want to say 7 years) but eD has denied several folks the warranty if you use Audyssey. So if you plan on using Audyssey or other room correction software, I would go somewhere else unless you just don't care about a warranty at all.

I have owned an A2-300 and a PA-150 and would recommend the PA-150. It has noticeably more output and it also looks much nicer. The A2-300 is not the prettiest subwoofer

Its a good thing you pointed that info out. I was thinking about the same thing but since I have never owned an Ed I thought I would just "keep to my own".

As a former Lava owner, I would highly recommend them. I would also get the LSP-12 unless you have size requirements. With the AVS discount, its only 288 shipped to your door. Counsil had a good review on it and I would agree. It never struggled at anything I threw at it, and if I wasnt upgrading to an Empire or VTF-15, I would have kept them.

This is what I am talking about! You guys are wonderful! The heads up on the ED is a huge point for me to kind of shy away from it. Thinking now the PA-120 might be the way to go, keep the info and suggestions coming!

With all due respect the measured frequency response of the LAVA 12 was seriously disappointing as measured by Audioholics:

That frequency response is more like that of a mid-bass module.

For $200 at newegg the Energy S10.3 does much better.

Ok now I have had a few people tell me that the HSU STF-1 (dual) would be a great option.

I could start out with one then add the second one at a later date.

What's the opinions on that?
