that's not totally true.
Hi guys,
This is my first post and english is not my native language but i want to contribute to the community with a so long desired solution for LG 42/47/55LM6200.
this journey begins with a not so good idea from LG....yes that one "YOU CANNOT PASS DTS" through your TV if you are on america due to licenses issues/fees/etc, etc, etc. so....
Solution Steps
1.- Upgrade your tv to the latest firmware (current 03.21.40 http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-42LM6200 )
2.- Get/obtain a RCA control like this http://www.amazon.com/RCA-RCRN08GR-Device-Universal-Backlit/dp/B003EYV21K.
I believe that second step is the most important because particularly speaking we are not going to use RCA remote control for bringing on the EZ menu only. We're looking for an ADVANCED EZ menu.
3.- When you already have your new remote control use code 10856 for program and notice the most buttons won't be working (so please get your original lg remote control cause will become handy) push down button 2 to bring on the EZ MENU and then push down button 3 to bring the Advanced EZ menu (In-start will be there too) LOOK for NSU Mode OPTION and change it from user to engineer.
Explanation: why do we need NSU Engineering Mode? well quite simple...when your TV is in NSU E-Mode will be connecting to LG alternate servers to download new unreleased firmwares.
4.- Now go to your typical menu and look for new updates. Your tv will show that a new fimware has been found and available for download (firmware 04.82.02) please update your TV as fast as you can...... that's the key.
5.- After upgrade process has finished take back your RCA remote control and go to normal EZ Menu. This time options will be available for modifying and particularly speaking you cannot change country group but you DON'T NEED IT. Just look for AC3 EDID option and change it from PCM to AC3.
6.- Wait almost there….. well actually we are there we have DTS passthrough...but wait THERE'S A BUG. keep reading.
Take this in mind…. your DVR or HT will displayed effectively DTS sound but you won't hear a sound. For some reason (probably a beta firmware) you need to go to menu on your TV and look for sound options and change your optical sound output from automatic to PCM and then go back again to automatic after doing that full DTS 5.1/7.1 track will be detected.
Best regards, JF (rahaziel)

I have a 47LM6200 and followed the instructions. I programmed by Harmony remote to act like a "service remote" and changed the setting under tools 7 to ACS. It still will not pass DTS. I am in engineering mode and have the latest beta software of 04.31.30 that came out today. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to change the country? Thanks!

Software 04.31.30 downloaded today. I see no changes.

Did you read all the way to the end.... And what are you trying to pass in DTS.

Does anyone else see the horizontal lines while viewing 3D content? Is there a fix?

I followed the steps to the T. If I hook up my cable box via optical to my lg soundbar I get dts. If I try to pass it through the tv via HDMI I only get 2.0. Not sure what I'm doing wrong unless it does not work anymore on the latest software update.

Works as it should for me still. Try toggling again as he points out. Toslink is definitely passing it for me. (Is it a U.S. TV?)

Yep. It's a US tv.

I'm not in an overly bright room, but I watch TV with the lights on, and reflection wise, the GT50 handled it pretty well.
Right now, debating between this and the 55HX850, so thanks for any help.

Honestly, it doesn't handle glare terribly well or, at least, hasn't in my case. I've had to move a few lamps around and it's kind of ridiculous trying to watch it during the day in my living room which doesn't get much light but does have three windows. I suppose, I could try moving it around the room to see if I get less glare in any particular place, but it suits the room's aesthetics best where it already is. Basically, with the overhead light on, a badly angled lamp or during normal daylight I can see myself reflected in the screen watching it if the picture has enough dark spaces. I don't know if putting some kind of diffuser on your overhead woud help with this or not, but it is pretty damn reflective.

Is this in comparison to the GT/ST50 plasma or just in general? The GT50 is glossy but I'm having no trouble at all with it glare-wise in my space, so just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

What am I doing wrong? I have the 55LM7600 and it's connected to my surround receiver. I have media box(use it for Pandor as the LG doesn't have a pandora app), Bluray and DVR all connected through my Onkyo receiver, via HDMI, then one HDMI to my TV. I have the HDMI 1 Out to my TV set with ARC active. Everything works as desired until I try to view/listen to content from the TV, such as Netflix. It would appear that the ARC is not working. I am under the understanding that ARC will feed the audio back to my receiver when the source is the TV and not the other HDMI inputs. But it's not working like that. I don't see anything else to set on my receiver. Is there something I need to set on the TV when watching such content? I normally have the TV set to External Speakers as I watch everything through my receiver.

According to the LG website, their TruMotion120 Hz and 240 Hz refresh rates on its 2012 HDTVs are actual refresh rates. According to our tests we found the 120 Hz TruMotion provides a real refresh 60 Hz. We have not tested the higher end models but expect the 240 Hz models to be 120 Hz refresh and the 480Hz a 240 Hz refresh. No, not in comparison; I don't have a plasma and just moved into this house so have no other tv in this room to compare it to. I don't really watch tv during the day, but I imagine if I did that I'd have to get thicker curtains. So, maybe you could check it out at a store and try to put something dark on the display and see if annoys you or not. In my situation, in any case, It just isn't watchable with lights at certain angles and sun. My curtains are very sheer and the windows are really tall though the light is diffused by the front porch on one side and a neighbor's house on the other and the room is on the North side of the house and we haven't had real sunshine since October here before I bought the tv.

You guys poo poo'd all over this set and only gave it 2.5 out of 5 stars... and the set you reviewed isn't even the same one in this thread.

Most other professional review sites i have seen gave this TV fairly glowing reviews.

Am i missing something here?

I don't understand. How did you remove the chances of recording a beat frequency again?
I read a review on Amazon that states audio passing through the Opitcal output ONLY puts out stereo and not full surround.. is that true?

My TV just arrived at my house today and my GF signed for it, i wanted to hook up the HT-CT15 Sound Bar i have and was going to use optical but if it doesn't work properly.. :/
post #2236 of 3596
Lots info in this thread on that. It can, may need a change in the service menu. I am getting 5.1

LOL....

Ok i went home and helped my GF set the TV up during my (extended... oops!) lunch break.

At first i was insanely ecstatic setting everything up... no dead pixels that i can see which is good.

However when i decided to turn the TV on/off and check for screen uniforimity i became a bit disappointed.

The screen has minor flashlighting along the top which doesnt bother me at all, but it has a bit of clouding in the bottom left corner when the screen is black.

On top of this... i stepped back and looked again and realized that the entire left side is brighter than the right side. Like a third of the left side is brighter while the right side is solid black.

Is this normal and/or fixable? It's kind of subtle really i had to look for it on purpose to catch it but i'm sure as i mess around with the TV later it might begin to bother me a bit more haha

***Ok spent more time with the TV today after work...

The left side of the TV doesnt seem as plagued by blotches as badly as when i first turned it on. They're still there but they seemed to have moved up to the top left of the screen more from like half the TV up and i don't really see it at the bottom. Strange... will it continue to get better? I hope so because i dont want to have to go through the hassle of returning it in hopes of getting a better panel.

3D works great and i don't see any of the artifacts that people complain about??? 2D to 3D Conversion works surprisingly well! My gf watched Harry Potter with my son with the 2D to 3D default settings and wasn't that impressed... then i picked up the remote and changed the depth and she freaked out haha. Putting it on extreme makes us a little cross eyed though. I tried Sonic Generations with Stereoscopic 3D on the 360 and when i made sonic run it got super blurry along the ground and i couldnt see a friggin thing. Then i went back into the settings again and for some reason picture mode was set to standard again. Switched it over to Game while in 3D and it fixed that. 3D gaming is AWESOME on this thing... but it did make me sick to my stomach after awhile.

Speaking of gaming, i popped in Battlefield 3 on the 360 and set the input to PC and picture mode to Game. Didnt see any lag but the picture did seem lighter(blacks more grey) and things didn't seem as sharp... not exactly blurry or smudged but definitely not as sharp as i'm used to on my Samsung or the other picture presets on the LG. I'll try setting the picture to Game and checking the lag to see if the picture looks any better without sacrificing input accuracy.

Blacks are definitely lighter than my 4 year old Samsung LCD but i haven't tweaked the settings at all, just fiddled with switching between standard, vivid, game, etc. If the blacks don't get any darker than they are now i think i'll be able to live with it.

Apps are sluggish but that's fine. I love that i can stream videos from my PC directly to the TV. Previously i was using my 360 to stream movies. Very cool! Netflix works ok but i think i'll stick to using it on my 360.

The remote pointer icon turns off super fast now... when i first got the TV if i moved the remote around the pointer would pop up and i would have time to explore. Now i find myself constantly wiggling the remote to wake it up. Dunno what happened???

Is it possible to use our Android phones as a remote? I saw the section about an App we can download but i went looking for it and didn't find it on the google play store.

I'm surprised at that. Best Buy has been increasingly cranky about nearly everything lately. From their website, they don't list Microcenter.com as an option at all:

Its true best buy did pricematch microcenter... I got the pricematch on the 55lm8600. I cancelled the order because they told me the delivery will take 3 weeks. But attached is the receipt. I was told that best buy will pricematch microcenter if there is one within 25 miles from your home address. proof of cancellation.JPG 100k .JPG file

Anyone familiar with ARC (audio return channel) with this set?

The microcenter website is pure irritation to me. Perhaps I have an app interfering (firefox).

I just got this set last night. It was either this, or I was thinking about going for the V-50 plasma.. I am happy I saved a grand. With some of these negative responses I was a little worried, but from all the research I did it seemed every TV had cheers and jeers. I love this TVs passive 3D, and I have to say I can't believe that the original image is sacrificed to achieve it's 3D effect. Really it look as crisp and sharp as the 2D Blu-Ray, and I am convinced I'm looking at full HD 3D. It has no crosstalk, the picture is bright, and colorful. My friends Plasma he got in the beginning of this year IMO isn't as good, and the 3D was ho hum, I did notice cross talk, a dark picture, and flicker, unlike this set which is just, or even better than the theater.
I was tweaking the massive settings a bit to achieve the best picture, I did manage to find an image I am so far pleased with, tho I am going to pick up a calibrating disc... Anyway to see if I can do even better.
As for flashlighing, I do notice a slight bit of it at top left area near the corner, but its not distracting. No clouding, that i can see.
I don't know if its true that if you loosen the screws a little in the back, that it will clear it up.. Anyone successful with this trick?
The more I watch this TV the more I love it!! Black levels are great!!

Great TV!

Can you clarify this? Are you able to see dark grays, dark browns, etc., as such and not have them squash to black?

Had same issue, but the audio feeds on the TV input of the Onkyo.. So you have to manually switch over to TV when in the app screens.

Ss long as it's calibrated correctly and the source is good enough to produce it, no question it produces darker colors well. Blacks not up to Samsung but much better than past LG TV's. Like any LCD bright rooms hurt the details. I continue to be amazed that this TV is underrated. Out of the box or using it's built in Picture modes it blah. But get it calibrated correctly and it's wow.

Lottery blues perhaps?

That was the general consensus 2 years ago when I couldn't for the life of me get the Samsung UN46C6300 to stop squashing dark anything to black. I started dreading watching TV and was so relieved when I returned it and started watching the CRT again.
