I think the 40" Series 6 Samsung that cost me almost as much 2 years ago might have to do for another couple of years....unless someone's coming to Buenos Aires in the near future and would very kindly volunteer to bring a 55LM7600 over for me?

Has anyone had the issue where the TV will not recognize an input signal? The screen is blank and the TV says no signal but the icon for the input is color indicating the input is active. I have seen this with a PS3, X-box and Direct TV box. If I turn the TV off and then on, then it sees all the signals.

For those that have this set already:

Did you use a warranty company? If so:

  1. Which one?
  2. How many years?
  3. What did it cost?
  4. What made you decide to use them?
  5. Do you like/hate the warranty experience for this TV?

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. I've seen it a couple times with my Time Warner DVR. Have to shuffle everything off and back on.

I bought the Squaretrade one from Costco for $99. It is 3 years on top of the Mfr warranty.

For the price of this TV ($1000-14999) the squaretrade.com site shows that 4 years (3 years more than the the LG 1 year) is $169. Does Costco make it even less expensive?

Yup. According to the terms of agreement, it is three years on top of mfr warranty plus the Costco concierge (if you buy the TV in Costco) or 4 years (mfr + 3.)

You don't even need to be a Costco member to buy this. Just have to pay like a $5 fee.

That's what the costco thing says: 2 years "concierge" + 3 additional years, for $99 (sets over $1000). For the record, the only warranty available from BB is BB's own. Bestbuy quoted me $269 for the 55lm7600. And I think it was actually 4 years, but I'm not sure. That said, however, the people who've spoken up about it have often said that it truly is stellar.

This one?

No, it comes up after updates, talks about being able to now use the app on an android (maybe Iphone too) that controls the LG smart TV. It shows shortly after entering Home, but only sometimes, primarily after updates.
I'm trying out the cnet settings and it refers to IRE settings under the expert options for gamma control. I don't see anything under expert options called IRE. Any idea where those settings are located?

I don't think I have seen that one. I'll pay attention when the next update comes through.

Have you managed go get your smartphone LG Remote app to mirror what's on the TV?
That's the error message I am getting - get the same on iPad and couple of Android 4.1.2 phones no matter what source I use (smart apps on the TV or input from HDMI or USB ports).

LG tech support says it only works with TV channels (as in coax antenna plugged in Broadcast TV channels). I don't have an antenna plugged in. Only Verizon FiOS set top box via HDMI.

Not sure if I did everything right, but I found the cnet settings to be a step down from where I was before. Can't remember for sure, but they were one of the first three recommended settings in this thread. The only thing that seems to leave me disappointed is a blurring in smo ematerial when I get closer to the set. I'm normally viewing from about 12-13' and it sure look sgreat from there! biggrin.gif

It's there. Look under White Balance settings, then Method. You MUST make all the settings because they did a good job of getting color correct, and one setting depends on the other. The main difference for me is their Sharpness setting, 0 makes no sense and does not look good, I use around 25 to 30. And I do not like the way the picture brightness is muted using Medium or High Local Dimming, I use low. But those settings are certainly personal preference.

Be sure you are using the newest ones, they made some changes. When you say a step down, from what settings that you are using? It's always possible to get even better settings, but I will say when I checked with a calibration disk, they were 100% spot on with color, and very close for brightness and contrast, which depends on room light anyway. I am very happy with the color of faces, and the depth, hue and luminescence.

Thanks tampa8 and merlo. I found the IRE settings. After setting those, turning local dimming down to Low, and increasing H and V sharpness into 25 - 30ish range, this is looking MUCH better. I see what everyone is talking about with the skin tones and it actually improves the focus in the skin areas. Skin is not so "pasty" anymore. Also before setting those last IRE settings, reds were way too blazing.

My previous settings looked almost decent, but this is definitely an improvement. Only other thing I've adjusted is brightness up to 60 instead of 50. This recovers a bit more of the detail in the darkest areas.

So next is to get my hands on a WOW dvd and see if I can get it even better. Also need to figure out the whole ARC thing with my HT-CT150 soundbar, or whether I should use the optical port for the audio. From what I'm reading I'll need to get a service remote in order to get any type of dolby sound from the TV to the soundbar.

Sweet. Thanks again.

Glad it worked out for you. I agree with you, and have posted before that Local Dimming on High or Medium makes faces not look right - pasty. It also makes the overall picture too dim, not allowing bright areas to be bright enough. I'm guessing WOW will have you set back the brightness some, and will probably have you fine tune the contrast. But in the end whatever looks best to you.

On another note, I see sometime over the last couple of days I am still on 04.31.30, but see a change to the Language selection in the Menu. It has two choices, one for Menu Language, and one for Audio Language.
Also, the Amazon App has quite alot added to the Prime member section.

I'm at the same update version 4.31.30.
I watched a DVR'd "Rise of Planet of the Apes" with these settings and it looked great. Only issue I had and it may just be the DVR... but there were some processing hiccups in a few spots of the movie. The troubling thing about it was that I could sometimes force it to happen by simply changing the volume level. That makes me concerned that it might be the TV's processor not the DVR's that's choking. I'll have to monitor that.

Probably. If you look through the thread, at one point I posted a code that would work for DirecTV users. You could try similar manufacturer codes if your cable provider gives them to you.

Anyone figure out what "Live Plus" does? I've not found any documentation on it nor see it have any effect on pq.....
I have not seen any reference to it anywhere, but very doubtful it's a PQ setting. I would think it has something to do with Smart TV and a coming online feature?

The LG app lets you do a screen grab photo which is a really cool feature. The only thing is that it seems like my only choices are to post it to Facebook or Twitter. Does anyone know how to simply save the image to the camera roll. (iOS on iPhone/iPad, by the way.)
For Android that's what it does automatically - sends to wherever your Camera pics go. Also I get list of about 10 things to do with it- send to email, to SMS, assign to contact, send via bluetooth, etc etc..

On my HTC One X and Galaxy S III, (both Android 4.1.2), the app saves the picture to a folder called "Camera" (even though the phone also/ already has a folder called the same).

As tampa8 pointed out, the screenshot is saved automatically as soon as you take it.
In the app, after taking it, you then have the choice to share it.

In iOS 6.0.1 (at least on my iPad), it seems it doesn't save the picture if you don't make use of it by sharing it via twitter or Facebook or one of those however many choices are offered.

I figured out my issue with the TV saying no signal even when there is an input signal. I found that the issue is that the TV is not happy when you turn it on and the input it was left on does not have a signal and then you try to switch to another input. I am guessing I am not the only person who's TV has this but for most people this is not an issue because if they are watching SAT, most likely when they turn their TV back on they will be watching SAT again. My family sees the issue because my kids will play x-box on HDMI3. They turn off everything and my wife comes along and wants to watch DIRECTV (HDMI1). She turns on the TV and the SAT box (but not x-box) and switches from HDMI3 to HDMI1 but gets the no signal message even thought the SAT box is on. Turning the TV on and off fixes the issue. This issue does not occur as long as when the TV is turned on, it gets a signal from the input that the TV was on when it was last turned off. So if my wife comes along and turns on the TV and x-box and then switches to directtv, everything is fine. Not a big deal but still annoying.

That feature isn't supported on the 7600 series.
