My wife being a normal person does not care and says she wouldn't notice if I didn't bring it up.

I have been through 4 LG TVs in the past 2 weeks. I kept upgrading models. All had flashlighting, backlighting issues that bothered me except for the one I currently have which is the 55lm6700. It is not perfect but is is damn close. Being the the 6700 and the 7600 have local dimming it does help mask it although my last 55lm6400 in the upper right corner had a really bright spot that I would not have been able to live with. Wife couldn't care less.

Just make sure to purchase it from a vendor that is easy to return to. Also, if ordering online because of a good price, make sure they pay the returning shipping if you are not satisfied. Otherwise you will not really be saving much after having to pay to ship back TVs.

TGM1024 do you think i should tell everyone how i got it? I don't want to open the flood gates...

It really is an issue within LG and their repair technique. Opening the flood gates probably 1. would not happen, but most importantly, 2. isn't something to feel even the slightest bit guilty about. Remember, LG advertises a wonderful picture and a TV that doesn't come with warning: "may have issues".

Seriously, there is nothing to worry about. Ghandi and Mother Teresa would have mentioned it. smile.gif

I've never seen it be declared as a "moderator-only thing", and I've seen no end of them show up using no particular format. I'd suggest a couple things though:

Put 2013 in it to be clear. Helps a lot of folks.
Make the sizes as lower-case "x"s. xxLA7400 is a lot easier to read than XXLA7400.

If the "Official" thing makes you uncomfortable, no one really cares if it's there. I've seen things like this too:

The 2013 LG xxLM7400 Thread

Inside, just say what you have, and whatever pictures you have (even one of the box). Others will chime in and add pictures of their own if you don't have time.

I am new to this thread and just recently purchased a 47in 7600. I bought it for 899.00 I do have the infamous light bleeding and some ghosting. I like the overall look and features of the tv however I am not getting the pq I should be getting I have tried many different setting. I am running an older Sony blu ray s480 I was wondering if that bad anything to do with it? Also wondering if my tv is defective I have unfortunately barely gone outside the 30 day return policy w hhgregg. I hate the light bleeding but was going to give it a fair chance however I think I screwed myself. I am sure hhgregg will not replace after 30 days its been 36 :/. Where can I get a blu ray calibration disk? And or does someone have a calibration that really worked for them other than cnets bc it looked like crap to me. Please tell me what I should do being new into the led world I come from an older samsung LCD touch of color which to me had a better pic but I sold it. Thanks for all the help and answered questions.

I have the WOW Disney disc, it works great. Lot's of tools. Amazon has it for about 25 I think. This thing can really show off your set. I have a two week old 55 7600 that has a little bleeding too. I turned up the local dimming and turned down the brightness on my blu ray player and that helped. I have the CNet settings in expert one. Overall I like the TV. When watching Direct TV it blows me away. Good luck.

After the most recent update by LG I had started having issues with LM7600, so I was concerned a return or repair was in the cards. I have since worked the issues out and may be able others who may exhibit similar issues.
The new update not only offered the ability to engage local dimming, but opened up all the calibration options with inputs labeled as PC/Game while continuing to offer very low input lag. You are able to engage "real cinema" mode as well causing flicker and some cases the screen to freak out a little. After discovering the issue and turning off real cinema mode I have not had an issue again.

Just got back from my "friendly" neighborhood "Best Buy". They told me over the phone they would switch my LM7600 out - however, once there with the TV - they gave me much grief in exchanging it. Told me there was nothing wrong and I would not be able to switch it out. Finally I argued with my Reward Silver status and let them know that the Geek Squad 800 service advised me to return it if unhappy. It was touch and go.

Finally a manager came out and let me know that even if switching it out for the same model, there was a possibility I would have the same issue. I said I (sadly - no I didn't say sadly) understood. So they finally complied. I think if I had moved up on the price ladder (with the 9600) there would have been no argument.

So I have it home now and patient husband set up the stand, etc for me and I am updating the software. So far on the former problem areas, I see no issues. However I'm still keeping the old fingers crossed. I still have to calibrate with the settings I've borrowed from this forum.

Wish me luck!!!smile.gif

Sorry guys i am just WAY too busy to start any kind of an actual thread right now.. i didnt even end up taking good pictures while unboxing it. I took a bunch of quick pictures and when i went back to look at it they were blurry! Turns out the baby smudged the lense on my phone camera (Samsung Galaxy S3) which sucks because they would have otherwise been very clear haha

Things ive noticed about the TV so far... packaged totally different in the box. It doesnt include the white plastic strip pieces on the sides of the TV now that you had to take off after you have it all set up.

The TV bezel/casing whatever seems slimmer than the 2012 model, no i did not break out a ruler and get all OCD on it. Don't have a lot of time sorry guys.

The stand is now just one long piece that you screw into the bottom back of the TV. If you want to adjust the angle of the TV you have to be able to move the whole TV, stand included, by using the tiny wheels on the bottom of the stand. Kind of weird. (Also, my stand doesnt align flush with the back of the TV on the ends where you screw it in. The center is flush against the TV but the ends raise up away from the TV a tiny bit. I don't know if thats an issue with my stand and i didnt put it together totally right or a manufacture defect or what but i unscrewed it and checked it and put it back on... same... left it for now)

They only give you four pairs of 3D glasses in one big fat box rather than 6 pairs in three separate smaller boxes.

The Remote is totally different this year over last years model. I've seen pics on the net that makes it look super similar to the 2012 models except for being silver. Well no, the production model i received is shorter and fatter and has a large round edge on the top... it now has additional buttons around the scroll wheel which are useful and means you have one or two less clicks to get into menus i guess. At one point the TV paused and said it was updating the remote software and i had to wait 30 seconds to resume use of the remote/TV. The remote definitely feels better in my hand than the previous remote did.

The Firmware for the TV is current out of the box, sorry i didnt take note of what version its actually at. It's like 3.06.20 or something like that.

They skimped on connections... 3 HDMI and there is no longer an adapter port for component/composite video connections. Now it's ONLY a single component and it all plugs directly into the TV. It has 3 USB 3.0 ports above the HDMI ports. I don't remember if thats the same as last year or not. I would have much rather had one less USB port and had an additional HDMI port instead. Oh well.

The power cable to the TV is not automatically plugged into the back now when you take it out of the box. It has a three prong connection that you push up into the tv. The end that plugs into the wall/surge protector is now a flat style end that saves space if you plug it into the wall. Don't know if i'm explaining it right but i'm sure you guys get the idea. The wall end is also three prong and the round prong seems longer than usual to me. Could be my imagination though.

The initial setup seems a tiny bit more thorough now... you can put your zip code in during setup now and it will suggest things pertaining to your region i guess? Some of the choices like the type of cable box are listed differently than they were on the 7600. For example, the 7600 listed mine as a cisco/scientific american but now the 7400 only lists it as a scientific american and luckily i remembered what my 7600 used. It just says Cisco on my actual DVR. I'm sure most people will be ok though.

The arrow icon is slightly different... its still red with the white border but its a bit more rounded on the sharp edges and almost has a 3D appearance compared to the flatter arrow from the 2012 model. In fact i just noticed that when you make selections on the screen the arrow tip tilts down as if the top point is touching what you're trying to select. Was the 7600 the same? I already don't remember haha

The menus are all very quick now and i did notice the new tile system but i didnt play with it yet. Sorry. I dont know how the speeds are for this dual core processor vs the LM8600 from last year, sorry i can't do any comparisons there.

I have not looked at or messed with the NFC Tag feature yet. I dont even remember what its for but there is a tiny booklet or something that comes with the instruction manual just for the NFC thingie. Havent opened it yet.

I kept hitting the 1,2,3 Menu button so i could change the picture type to "game" to remove all the extra processing on my Xbox 360 source but it just kept bringing up the cable DVR controls... at the top of the virtual DVR controller you can change input type and there is also the gears/settings icon but i couldn't click on it! Was pissing me off... i figured out that you have to press the "Smart" button on the remote itself and accept terms on a couple of pages, and THEN you have to get to the settings menu by clicking on the Smart button on the remote and you can then change the audio/video settings.

I downloaded and tried out the LG Remote app off of the google play store. The remote App works awesomely, you can even change it to a screen that has a little arrow that you move around with your finger and it reflects on your TV and i didnt see much lag between the two. For some reason it says that the 2nd screen portion of the App isnt available on my phone!? Its a Galaxy S3... you'd think out of any current phones it would be supported? Weird. Oh, you can also hit a game controller icon and your whole screen becomes a virtual controller with the joystick and four buttons. I haven't tried that but i thought it was pretty nifty. I'm sure all of this is the exact same as what people were already using with the 8600 though. New to me.

Ok as for the light bleed issues that i had with 3 different panel/TVs... with the 7600 i had bright spots or hot spots or whatever you want to call it. Usually along the top and/or in the corners. With this new 7400 i dont see those bright spots. However, i do see whole sections on the corners middle sides that appear to be a little brighter.. and i was like CRAP! But then i moved around in the room and the spots changed or lessened etc. They even appeared to go away. Huh? I don't know, i havent messed with it enough yet. Maybe i have to change some video settings around or something? As long as it doesnt have the bright ass spots in the corners etc though i am perfectly happy with this TV.

Ok even though the pics are blurry garbage i'll upload them anyway, sorry its all i have right now smile.gif

Here is the TV after pulling the outer upper box piece off. The stand is one big piece that fits in one long styrofoam piece along the top of the TV. The manual/remote/glasses is now just sitting down in front.

The Manual/Glasses/Remote all come in separate bags but they are all sealed into one piece along the top.

The Stand is just one long piece now as you can see below. You just screw it into the tv with two screws on either end.

This is all we get as far as connections go now... boo LG! frown.gif

A couple pictures of the remote, top close in and the side.

My son playing Dance Central 3 on the 360... dunno why i'm throwing this one in but what the hey smile.gif

That's probably it for now folks... tons of other people will probably have this model in a week or two and someone will be able to put up a good official thread.

GOOD LUCK. By the way, the proper response to that you-get-the-same-result-next-time is: "well if that's so normal, how come your floor model shows no evidence of it???" If they continue to give you crap, you can follow up with "So, it's ok to make me believe that I'll get a TV that looks like your floor model and refuse an exchange when it doesn't?????"

And explain the incident carefully and honestly on yelp and google (usually google maps).

Why did they give you an issue? Were you out of your return window? If not, I thought BB takes back returns within the certain time frame specified no questions asked?
I was not out of my return window. I purchased (well upgraded from the 6700- which also had bad bleed) on Feb 17th. I had till April 17 for a window. I had thought the same thing for exchanges.

And also, since Feb. 17th, I had 170 or so hours logged into the TV - I know I watch a lot of TV, but not that much. In fact, the TV is off all day - on the weekdays till 6:00 pm. Do you think I could have gotten a return on the last set? The current TV now has 0 hours logged in.

Nevertheless, I am a happy camper now. I hope when watching tonight in a dark room, I'm just as happy. smile.gif

Oh, by the way, the build for my current TV is Sept. The former one was Oct. Don't know if that means anything. smile.gif
post #3132 of 3596
Wait, you have 2013 model, splattered? Hot damn.

I'm actually quite curious about their 2013 panels. I've never seen 3D before until my recent active 3D purchase, and while I really, really like the effect in movies that utilize it well, I notice a lot of faint ghosting on my new television. It's distracting to me, so I've been debating what to do. If LG's top 2013 panels have little to no backlight bleeding, as well as having decent motion performance, I may consider the switch to one of their passive 3D models. I just hope they announce the release dates and prices soon.

As far as the spots that disappeared as you moved around the panel, that might just be due to viewing angle. Or you may need to enable its LED local dimming feature. The latter worked for my Sony set. It wasn't enabled by default.

If you're ready to pull the trigger on the 7600, It's worth pointing out that right *now* (09-Mar-2013, 5:00pm EST) the 8600 is down to $1450. (Amazon prime / 3rd party but fulfilled by Amazon). That's a low price.

Splattered, GREAT job! Thanks. Look forward to your observations on the light uniformity as time goes on. Interesting.

I have the LM 7600 '47 model and I love this tv. Thanks to all the help from Tampa8 and others in this forum I have the setup I like and all is good. Appreciate the help.

I do have one small issue and I can live with it I'm just curious about it. I watch a ton of Hockey and I notice that at times when a face off happens there seems to be a little bit of slow down or lag briefly. Does any one else see this when watching? I have tried Trumotion on and off and it occurs either way.

Just wondering. Overall a great Tv. I can't say enough how Happy I am that I got it.

Cheers.

Tiny update... 55LA7400 TV froze on me tonight while browsing Netflix. Could move the cursor all over but couldnt actually select anything. Couldnt hit any other buttons on the remote to do anything. Had to press the power button on the back of the TV a few times to get it to go off. Hopefully this is just a temporary App/Firmware issue.

Light bleed.. now all four corners have a very large area of light bleed but they are more subtle and don't really bug me. The light bleed i was seeing on the 7600 was brighter and annoyed me, this is much lighter and when material/sources change on the TV it seems like the corners get better or worse. Sometimes even the whole left third of the TV looks lighter and then when things shift even if it stays black between two sources it can go away when it switches content. Kind of weird.. maybe i have some kind of dynamic lighting on and need to turn it off? Its set to Game so i wouldnt think it does... but worth mentioning at this point.

I see that Best Buy now has the 7400 on their site as available for shipping and at their stores. For 2,099. I still didn't find it on Amazon in case anyone is interested in a price match or would order it direct from Amazon. I'm glad I stuck with my "lowly" 7600. I just can't see myself spending the extra bucks.

And I do see bleed - but not nearly as bad on my exchanged set. Only at night in a very dark room and changing inputs. I can gladly live with that.

On the picture and 3D test - I can only see the results when not in active content. Anyone else have that happen? I even called LG last night and when explaining the issue - the test appeared as it was supposed to (football players and balloons). And the 800 agent was actually very nice and helpful. A nice surprise.

I'm really torn at this point. I'd love the lastest version but yeah....$2099.99 is a lot. It's not even a matter of being able to afford it, it's simply that I know that's too much. That's the "it just came out" price. Read through Splattered's review (by the way thanks a million) to see what there might be to help me justify the extra cash. And what's up with Amazon? The 55LA6900 is up. Granted Paul's TVs is the only seller. Anyway where's the 55LA7400? Oh I grow so tired of waiting! >:-|

Do you have local dimming enabled? LG calls their version of it LED Plus, but I don't know what it might be called in the options menu. Local dimming is suppose to reduce or even eliminate bleeding. Lowering the backlight level might also help. Game modes tend to crank that setting really high. It makes the image brighter, but it also exacerbates light bleed. My Sony has a maximum backlight value of 10, and it likes to keep it that way in certain presets. I like a bright image, though I usually lower that value to around 6-8 to maintain a vibrant picture while reducing hot spots.

Just wanted to add that after owning the 7600 for a few days I love it. Got the 47" for under $1000 total cost and it was an absolute steal in my eyes.

I have a question about LG's (LM7600, LA7400) motion performance. Does it have smoothing options that don't add a soap opera effect? The Sony I have has several settings. Smooth and Standard cause SOE. Clear removes blur and judder but doesn't cause SOE.

The 7600 used to have a Clear Plus setting that would employ a de-blur and backlight scanning method that would not introduce SOE or motion artifacts. The feature was removed with a firmware update that also removed de-blur controls from the "User" settings.

I don't think that's right. I'm looking at my 7600 right now, on the latest firmware that was just released in the last couple of weeks, and I still have the Clear Plus option, as well as De-Blur option when I set it to User.

Does anyone use the true motion setting? I have it currently turned off.

Where did you come up with that? Nothing at all has changed with those settings. They are the same today as the first day I had the set.

I have not had those settings on my set since day one. There is still "Clear", but no "Clear Plus" and the "User" has no de-blur setting either.

I m still able to control de-judder on user setting, but de-blur is absent. I have seen several reviews of the set mentioning those features and my friend LM7600 has, but he has never taken his online to update. I just assumed that was what happened.

Interesting.

Provided that we are talking about the 7600, and not the 6700, what input are you using? And what mode do you have that input in (Game, Cinema, Vivid, etc.)?

You might have a defective set or defective firmware.

I am beginning to think the same thing myself. I posted pictures a page or so back showing the TV exhibiting signs of the main board going out or the T-con board going bad. To answer your question I do have the LM7600 not the 6700 series LG. I am currently using game(input) not picture modes. I have tried labeling the inputs from everything blu-ray,home theater etc.....
I have also tried all the picture adjustments from expert1-2, cinema, game, etc....... None have any affect on the Tru-motion adjustments.
