I've had the LG 47LM7600 since the end of May, 2012 and have loved it. I don't know if I'm a typical user of it, so here are a few facts:
1.) I didn't have it connected to the internet for the first ~10 months of owning it. I'd just play movies and music from it. When I finally connected it to the internet, I ran whatever updates it asked me to. Everything seemed to work ok.
2.) I don't have TV service or cable. The ONLY things I use this tv for are movies and music, played as follows:
A.) I copy movies or music to a USB 3.0 flash drive and play AVI movies or MP3 music directly off the stick. This is being played via the TV speakers. I like doing this for easy music listening or to watch a quick TV show off the USB stick without turning on my computer.
B.) I have a computer what outputs through DisplayPort with an HDMI converter running into the TV. I use this for both movies and music. Since DP only outputs picture, any sound is played through a surround sound system. This makes for better quality picture (sometimes playing 1080p movies) and better sound (through the surround sound), but takes more time to start (since I need to turn on the computer) and the computer fans make noise which competes with quiet movies.
C.) I play music through the Pandora app, streaming from the wireless high speed internet connection. This is nice for quick listening of a variety of music or stuff I don't own.
D.) I play music from my laptop, streaming over WIFI. I don't use this as much, because if I want to turn my laptop off, the music stops. I also don't like thinking that it's bogging down my laptop resources to read and stream the music.
3.) I tend to be pretty technical with the things I buy. I have taken apart, fixed, or modified most of the things I own. This is not the case for this TV, though, I have not changed anything other than the setting. Any changes I have made to the settings happened close to the time I bought it.
In the time of having it, I've gone away on week or more long trips away from it. Recently, I went on a 2 week vacation, and unplugged the TV from the wall during that time. When I came back, I tried to play a TV show using method A above. When I tried, every 10-15 seconds, the audio would stutter. It would pause for a second, then would blip a split second of sound, pause again, play about a second of music, pause for another split second, and then continue playing for another 10-15 seconds before repeating. I thought it was badly encoded audio in the file, and just turned on my computer and played it there just fine. A couple days later, I tried to play some music (on a different USB stick, in a different USB port on the TV), also using method A above, and the same thing happened with the music. I tried a couple songs, and tried turning the TV off and on a couple times, but the same thing happened. When I play music though the Pandora app as described in method C, the same thing happens. I updated the firmware to the newest version (05.01.26), it was still happening. When I play something using method B, everything works ok, but that's because no sound is coming out of the TV. But the weird thing is, when I play music using method D, the music plays just fine. I called LG customer support and we did the sound check (passed just fine) and checked other various setting that should be working ok, but since it was out of the 1 year warrantee, they said it would be $90 just to have someone come and look at it, before even trying to fix it.
So my question is, why is this happening? It seems like if the TV is trying to process the audio, it has problems, but if it's just playing the music, it seems to work ok. But since the picture isn't stuttering at all, maybe that's not it? I really don't know. The only thing I haven't tried yet is going back to the factory settings, but since I don't think it was the setting that caused this (and I'd just have to take the time to change my personal setting back), I don't know if this would help. I also wouldn't mind re-flashing the original firmware to bring it back to when I got it (or another suggested previous firmware), but I don't know where to find them or how to do it. Any thoughts as to why this is happening, if anyone else is having this problem, or more importantly, what can be done to fix it?
As an unrelated question, has anyone made or flashed a different OS onto this TV or rooted it in some way? I hate all the ads on the home screen, and I feel it's been a little slow to load the home screen lately (or at least since I put the TV on WIFI and it added all the extra networked features). I'd love to turn some of that stuff off.
Thanks in advance!
