I bought an MC-300 last February off of audiogon, and for the last 9 months, it has been a dream to listen to - the first three months, sadly, it had to go in for repair twice (those, I blame any damage on moving and storage company handling. I hope.).
As of last night, it won't turn on. Again. I know it's an older piece, but it's quite disappointing to have to spend not-insignificant money so frequently to keep it running. The last repair was $600, I'm assuming this time the repair won't be much less (will bring it in for a diagnosis and estimate next week).
I love the sound, I adore the blue meters, but at this rate, the repair costs are nearly enough to buy something like an Emotiva XPA-2 every year. I have it in an open framed rack, 5" of clearance above it and twice that on all sides, so it shouldn't be a heat issue, should it?
Anyway, I need to figure out what to do.
- Sell it and use the proceeds to buy something new, but not MC. NAD 275BEE, Parasound A23, Emotiva XPA-2 (to get an idea of what I think I'd get for a bricked McIntosh)
- Repair it, then sell the working amplifier
- Repair it, use it, and let the warm sound and blue meters keep me happy, with the understanding that it's been in for repair before and may need to go in again.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome!
