I have searched the forums and can't seem to find any solution (perhaps there is none?) to my HDMI control and Audio Return Channel issues.
I have a SAMSUNG UN55D8000 connected via a single HDMI cable to a Pioneer VSX-53 AVR (monitor 1/control output). I have a DirecTV HR22 and assorted other components plugged into the VSX-53 as well. All have latest firmware loaded.
What I am trying to accomplish is have the TV control the AVR volume and also have the SmartHub apps on the TV audio played through the AVR and switch automatically from audio sourced from DTV STB to the Audio Return Channel (when audio is present).
The closest I can get is having the TV set to HDMI-CEC and control for receiver set to ON. This allows the volume up/down on the TV to control the AVR (TV says AnyNet+ connected device). On the VSX-53, I have to enable HDMI-Control for this to work, but the problem is whenever this setting is enabled the AVR keeps changing to TV/SAT and the DirecTV feed drops. I have to switch it back to an input where the HDMI from the DirecTV STB is configured as an input.
When HDMI Control is enabled in the VSX-53, the ability to assign an HDMI input source for "TV/SAT" is greyed out! If I turn OFF HDMI control, I can now set the TV/SAT input to HDMI 1 or 6 or whatever, but now the AnyNet control fails to control the volume.
It's a catch 22. I have to wonder if the SAMSUNG receivers have this same issue or if they integrate better? If I can't get this resolved then this VSX-53 might as well be a boat anchor, and I may have to pickup a SAMSUNG AVR instead (ughh). The whole selling point was not needing to muck around with the AVR inputs. You see, I had to sell my wife on this as well and it looks like we were both duped. To her, things just got more complicated and costly for no benefit. She had to muck around with turning dials, pressing buttons here and there and now she still has to turn dials and press too many buttons, and they have all CHANGED so where is the win in this?
How do I keep HDMI control, AnyNet, Audio Return Channel all working and without losing video from my DTV STB? Why does the TV/SAT setting have the HDMI input greyed out?
The pioneer manuals and AVNavigator don't talk a lot about HDMI control and ARC. Everyone says this is a "new" feature. May not be compatible, etc. Anyone else get this to work or am I just stupid for not getting a Control4 instead?
