My current (old school) setup is as follows: (2) rear WH 2 series Wharfedales, (1) WH 2 center, (2) Sound Dynamics RTS-P100 powered speakers (towers), Marantz SR4200 receiver, & Velodyne SPL-1500R sub. The only thing I want to upgrade is the receiver. Or just leave it alone and get my system tuned? Friend of mine has a mint in box Marantz SR7001 that I can get for $350-$400. I do not want to spend anything more than that for any receiver. I have a Pioneer KRP500M plasma, PS3, and Satellite. Thanks

Just had my system tuned and it sounds great. Still can get the SR7001 for $350 or so, but is it worth it over the SR4200? Might just leave well enough alone

Your current receiver doesn't have any HDMI inputs. Would you plan to use them on the SR7001? It is defiinitely more powerful with more features than your current receiver.

How is everything connected to the SR4200?

What does you had your "system tuned" mean? What did they do?

We pretty much have similar setups. 500m,ps3,sat. Also have a marantz sr8002.I would get the 7001 in my opinion or something along those lines to be able to utilize the hdmi.my .02

Don't care about the HDMI hookups (have HDMI from 500M to PS3 and satellite receiver). Current connection is digital optical from PS3 and satellite receiver to Marantz.

My satellite receiver has only 1 HDMI that goes to the 500M, so I only have the digital optical option to go to the Marantz

Had a friend of mine adjust my system with a sound meter

Well, if you plan to continue to use digital optical from your PS3 and Satellite box to the Marantz you probably don't need another receiver.

Doesn't sound like you'd be taking advantage of the newer capabilites of the SR7001. The one thing you might like is the Audyssey room calibration though. Not sure if that is worth $350 though if you're happy with your current setup.

Thank for the info

There are no problems with my current setup right? Thanks again

My satellite receiver has only 1 HDMI that goes to the 500M, so I only have the digital optical option to go to the Marantz - Same goes for the PS3

Got the SR7001 installed today (paid $300 new in box).......wow, what a difference

Blows the 4200 away in all aspects..........my speakers never sounded so good.

Sold the SR4200 for $90.
