Because it sounds like it was pushed back.

GOOD!
Maybe they will do it justice with better video....

Heheh. With a one month delay, I'm sure it's not going to be for them to do anything with the video. wink.gif Sounds more like they wanted Blade and Trinity to release with Blade 2 which was coming out at the later date.

FYE has these for $9.99 with $5 TDKR movie cash. Also, I believe Fry's has them for $7.99. Some Wal-Mart's have both the first and third for $9.96, but definitely Blade: Trinity at just about all of them.

Nah many store have it as many posted in forums. Walmarts, Best Buys, online shops so it's probably just a **** up on Warners side.

Though it is strange that Blade changes its original 5.1 -> 6.1 while Blade II changes its original 6.1 -> 5.1 and/or 7.1 ?

Blade II was given a proper discrete 6.1 remix by Mi Casa, so yeah it's odd that the BD appears to have lossless tracks for 5.1 and 7.1. I wonder if it's a theatrical audio / remixed audio type deal, or perhaps they had concerns about the downmixing of the 7.1 track for 5.1 playback.
It might be that it is a 7.1 track with a mono rear surround. I could be wrong but I thought I remember that TrueHD and DTS-MA don't fully support a native 6.1 audio (but instead 5/7.1). I could be wrong though but for some reason that makes sense now. tongue.gif

Actually....it doesn't make much sense now if Blade is in 6.1 redface.gif Oyeee

I don't care if it makes sense, the 6.1 audio sounds great! biggrin.gif

With seperate 5.1 and 7.1 tracks it's clearly at the expense of the video bitrate.

Maybe, but Blade still looks damn good on Blu.

My local Best Buy finally got Blade and Blade: Trinity out on the shelves, and on sale. They're doing the push for TDKR with the Movie Cash offer, so the product is lumped in with other qualifying titles. Glad to see they finally got those in. Can't wait too much for the 10th to roll around so I can get Blade II and complete the set.

Space is not the first issue in this case, the limitation is the maximum bandwidth of Blu-ray (A/V total of 54 Mbps).
Average bitrate of all the tracks combined (video, audio and subtitles) is already around 35 Mbps.

During action scenes the peak bitrate of both the video and lossless audio tracks leaves no headroom.
With one lossless audio track you propably could have 4-5 Mbps more for the video.

Remember that the video and lossless audio are variable bitrate, so it can go very high or very low depending on the complexity of the material.

But this is all in theory, it can stil looks fantastic... wink.gif

Remember we found out that the most popular AVC encoder sold to studios by default caps the bitrate stream below the maximum limits of the Blu-ray format, because older and out-of-date players were having problems playing them. The studios would rather handicap the video than have irate complaints from customers their discs do not play.

What a shame. That's some good incentive to upgrade an old player.

Yeesshhh. Do you guys remember how long it toook just to boot up and open the tray for the old BD players? *shudders*

Don't forget about the loading times on those older players. I still have a Sony BDP-S550 lying around, and that kept me waiting up to two minutes to load a disc and get to the menus. mad.gif
post #113 of 185
Wow. Only two minutes? I believe I remember it taking a solid 5-10mins to make it to the menu on Pirates of the Caribbean 2 on my Sony BD300S. *shudders*

Optical drives should be FAAAAST.
IMO, BD players are still too slow (either loading or navigating).

Absolutely. Agreed 1,000%. They are made too cheap, maybe? Even "high-end" models from Oppo and the like are not catching my interest.

Do these have special features on them? I have the canadian versions which barely has a menu..

I have had 3 Panasonics and now primarily use the Oppo 95 and 83.
Although fine players that they are, neither is fast enough for me.

To be fair, most of the speed issues are part and parcel to the format and copy protection schemes used by the studios.

That's exactly what I'll be doing with my Canuck BD of Blade II. It's not a bad disc but no-one in their right mind would buy it over the new version, and because it's region locked, most of the people who would be stupid enough to buy it couldn't play it anyway!

I think I'll have to do the same with my sealed copy of Final Destination 2, now that I've picked up 1-4 on UK Blu-ray for all of £9.

Disable the online crap if you can and it loads butter on a hot biscuit.
