"Veep" on HBO HD - Page 5

Good episode. I've never heard furlong in that context before. Unless if I'm not understanding the word correctly.

Wonder what was in the trash eek.gif
Condoms possibly, since she spoke about great sex with her boyfriend.

"Furlough" is the word that was often used. It means unpaid leave, and in this case was a result of the government shutdown. "Furlong" is the last name of the morally bankrupt Congressman.

I'm not sure what was in the trash, but another positive pregnancy test immediately came to mind.

Thanks for the information, MSmith83.

That slipped my mind, a pregnancy test makes more sense.

You might be right about it being a lot of condoms. Gary's reaction was certainly what you would expect in such a situation.

The only issue is that it must have been a ridiculous amount to have her embarrassed, and one has to wonder how much sex someone who works so many hours can have within a short time frame. biggrin.gif

Outstanding episode this week. The Veep's staff are such a hoot, love them.

No talk about the trash this week, but she is sleeping around with her ex-husband.

I sense a throat cancer plotline ...

This thread isn't very active for such a grand program. Guess the style of comedy isn't for everybody

I gave up. Requires too much effort ... Plus, I'm not a big fan of what I've come to think of as "cringe comedy."

To be fair, I've been a bit ruthless lately. A few weeks ago, I dumped eight episodes of "The Americans," last three eps of "Homeland," and I haven't watched a single episode of "Mad Men," "Breaking Bad," "The Wire," or any of "Arrested Development" past the first two episodes (well maybe one about the "Blue Man Group" ... Accidentally biggrin.gif)

I just watched it last night. It was a great episode. Alison Janney was wonderful, as usual. Does she look thinner and more drawn than in the past?

Can't believe Julia Louis-Dreyfus is worth $3 billion. She doesn't flaunt it with homes, cars, exotic luxuries, etc. She also doesn't get into scandals that a lot of extremely wealthy people get.

Can't wait for tonight! Drank half my weekend beer last night, so I deserve to finish it tonight biggrin.gif

That was awesome! biggrin.gif

Don't want it to end next week.

That was really good. The glass door scene was one of the most humorously random moments on television.

An "OK" season finale. It's so funny how everybody immediately jumps on the task of finding new jobs.

I don't think we've ever seen Gary so mad, how he was fighting with his wife and the cheese employee kept interrupting them.

Tremendous show, sad to see this season come to an end already. They should do a very long season, like 24 episodes tongue.gif

I thought the season finale (as well as the season overall) was great. They have set up the next couple of years with the WH run to be a lot of fun with some potentially great story lines.

Got into this recently, as the household got HBO for three months and On Demand enables watching the whole enchilada.

Hysterical. I'm a big fan now, and the whole ensemble is superb.

Me too. I've only been watching for a few weeks, but I love it. The show so deftly captures everything that is so awful about Washington: the meanness, the lies, the incessant BS, the opportunistic politico weanies eager to glam on to anyone who can further their careers, the kiss ass suckups, the pandering to special interests and donors, the back stabbing, the anxiety over the most insignificant gaffes, the incessant public apologies that are really non-apologies, the empty meaningless rhetoric, the cynical sound bites full of buzzwords, the lack of backbone and courage of one's convictions, the eager scramble and race to jump off a ship everyone thinks is sinking, etc. No one there knows the meaning of the word "loyalty." As one of my favorite writers P.J. O'rourke called Congress (although it applies to the executive branch as well), nearly everyone there is a "parliament of whores."

The writing on this show is spot on, and it's funny as hell. The only downer about it is that It's scary how close it is to being a documentary.

Oh, and there was some great dialogue last night. Some of my favorites:

Selina: Jonah, settle something for me. You like to have sex? You like to travel?

Jonah: Yes, ma'am.

Selina: Then you can f- off.

***********

Selina: Where are my Veeple People?

***********

Gary: D&G Cheese Overseas.

LOL.

Oh, and can I say that I just love Sue and everything about her? She is a total badass.

My current favorite character on the show is probably Ben, who is played by Kevin Dunn. His persistent anxiety and utterance of gloom and doom scenarios never gets old.

He had one of the best lines earlier in the season when making fun of Kent's nature of being a strict statistician: "I bet when you take a **** an actual number 2 comes out!"

Middle of this season I thought was quite weak, but the last two episodes were particularly good. Lots of killer lines and insults. I think this show works best when an imminent crisis needs to be averted and everyone is getting in each others way and on every nerve.

I really like Kevin Dunn's Ben too. His side of the mouth snark is usually very funny. Ben is a guy who has seen everything in Washington and didn't like any of it.smile.gif

Yep, pregnacy was my thought as well.

I just signed up for HBO (on Comcast), when I saw that HBOGO showed up on my ATV. I watched all of this shows episodes, lickity-split. Elai, er I mean Julia is hilarious, as is the rest of the cast. Onto Game of Thrones now. cool.gif

TCA: HBO Sets Season 3 Premiere Date For 'Veep'
By NELLIE ANDREEVA | Thursday January 9, 2014 @ 3:12pm PST / deadline.com

HBO‘s flagship drama series Game Of Thrones will return for a fourth season on April 6, the network announced at the top of its TCA presentation today. It will be followed by the third-season debut of Veep at 10 PM and the series premiere of Mike Judge‘s new comedy series Silicon Valley at 10:30 PM. The following Sunday, the three series will be joined by the second season of Vice at 11 PM. HBO stressed that Season 2 will not include controversial former NBA star Dennis Rodman. And HBO Films’ The Normal Heart, an adaptation of Larry Kramer’s play directed by Ryan Murphy and starring Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Matt Bomer and Jim Parsons, will have its premiere in May. The first official trailer for GOT‘s upcoming season will air this Sunday on HBO, immediately before the debut of True Detective.

I miss this show. The whole cast is superb. I guess it's still a few months away :pout:

I watched an episode this week. Totally miss this show! The whole cast is fantastic!

Great writing.. just gotta be alert to the dialog LOL.. It goes by fast! (I think closed caption has already been mentioned in this thread.)

Veep is wonderful indeed. The combination of its terrific ensemble cast and great writing make it my favorite 30 minute comedy. In fact it's the only one I watch. Over its first two seasons the show kept getting better as it went along. I am not asking for it to get better still but if it as comes close to being as good in Season 3 as it was in Seasons 1 and 2, we are in for a lot of fun.

Season 3 poster! Looks great biggrin.gif

Just a reminder...

Season 3 starts Sunday April 6 at 10:30PM.
