Official Sony KDL-46HX750 & KDL-55HX750 Owners Thread - Page 20

Shoot... Dell just delayed delivery from the 30th to the 5th of December.

And now... i wait.

While i wait though, i wanted to ask about 3D Glasses.

I have read in some reviews that you HAVE to purchase the expensive Sony glasses, and that these glasses only work on the Sony TVs.

However, upon reading reviews of some of the glasses themselves including the Playstation specific model, people are saying they work great with their other brand televisions.

Now i am confused... can i get other cheaper brand active shutter glasses for the HX750?

Also, lots of reviews say they are too big/uncomfortable for smaller children... i have a 6yr old son who is no way going to miss out on 3D while we sit back and enjoy it. If i can use other brand glasses i'm wondering if i can find something smaller for my son.

Lastly, i've read in some reviews that the polarization in the Playstation glasses actually enhances the 3D effect, reduces cross talk, allows you to sit not directly in front of the TV you can actually tilt your head around etc and it's fine. I wonder if people giving bad 3D reports for this TV were using the standard glasses that don't include the polarization filter???

I bought the PS3 glasses and they work great with my 55hx750. It was on sale recently for $20 at BB and Amazon. I have a 6 yr old girl and the glasses were too big for her. I doubt she can wear it throughout a whole movie. I'll have to find kid's size alternatives.

Good to know... i do frequent Slickdeals and remembered seeing that the glasses were on sale for $20, but when i went back and looked today they are back up to normal price. They are on sale for $30 at Best Buy right now and i hate the idea of spending an extra $10 per glasses than i would have had to originally haha

If you DO find a smaller alternative for your kiddo that work well please come back here and let me know smile.gif

Still not a bad deal at $30. I bought two 250's at $40 each, and two ps3 versions at $20. The 250 are only slightly more comfortable, but the ps3 ones are a lot more functional because of the filters, allowing you to tilt your head without distorting the image.

edit: I still say not a bad deal at $30, because when I originally got the 250's at $40, I had wanted the ps3 ones instead, but they were $70 everywhere!

I don't understand why this is the only option where I can use the Headphone 3.5 mm jack out to analog RCAs and then control the volume through the TV. Is the set not able to recognize the optical out is is use when you have the settings set to Audio system? It's funny... even in the i-Manual for Speakers... it has the tip setting audio system out on the 3.5 mm jack... but not on the optical digital out option. I don't recall the exact verbiage right now... but it's not present under the optical diagram. ANY ideas here?

I tried contacting Sony support by e-mail. They said to make sure that the volume was not set to 0 before changing the settings to Audio System. It makes no sense that this should make a difference, but I won't be at my In-law's till Christmas so I don't know for sure. Perhaps you can try it and let me know?

Of course, another one of their suggestions was to connect the soundbar to a different INPUT on the television?!

The soundbar can be programmed to respond to the Volume +/- and Mute buttons of most major remotes. You can't set it up to respond to the Sony remote if you can't disable the TV speakers. So I need to explain to two people over 80 years old that they need to use one remote to change the channel and a different remote to adjust the volume.

Probably should have posted my question regarding a mount for my HX750 here. Anyway here is the link to my question. I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thanks.

I am starting to see a trend here. And that is it seem's the bigger the tv the more clouding problems arise. It's not only with the HX750 but with other LED tv's as well. I could be wrong but the evidence sure points in that direction right now.

Hi All,

Cyberweekend HX750 (55" from BB with a CyberMonday pricematch) owner here and I just wanted to give my impressions and ask the group's thoughts as well. I'm loving this TV and feel like it was a relative bargain from the Samsung ES7100 that everyone seemed so keen on Black Friday. I've watched a Up and Red Cliff on my PS3 and have been pretty blown away.

I also picked up the Vizio VHT215 Soundbar with wireless woofer and hooked it up through the ARC connection, and have enjoyed the automatic switching that the tv will do when I switch inputs.

http://reviews.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/sony-lcd-tv/sony-hx750-calibration

Is where I got my settings from and I'm for the most party very happy. I like Cinemotion on Smooth and MotionFlow on Auto1, but I still have no idea what these modes are doing.

There have been a few things that have bothered me a little bit, however, and I was wondering if I had a bad unit or am just being anal.

I have a PS3 and Verizon FiOS CHS435HDC box hooked up via HDMI and my Xbox 360 via Component (it's the older model with no HDMI). On Blu-Ray things don't always run incredibly smoothly. There are still times where I'll notice judder, especially on a panning/fast moving scene. I thought the 240Hz was supposed to completely eliminate this? Also, I did change the video settings in my box to Native, but when I watch ESPN or the NFL games on FOX or CBS I don't see that crisp picture with no motion lag on the ball that I was expecting. Is this a problem in Verizon's incoming signal, am I sitting too close to the tv, or is my tv defective? Should I change my Cinemotion and MotionFlow settings?

And on my Xbox 360 with Madden, there appears times where things are running fairly smoothly, but there's like this halo around the players on closeups that is just around the edge of them as they run across the screen.

Thoughts greatly appreciated!

Did you switch your scene/picture settings to "game" when playing your 360? I have to do that with my current Samsung or else i see some artifacts, blurring, etc...
Do we know how to get into the service menu to tinker around with things yet?
Can anyone confirm that this TVs HDMI 1 ARC is limited to Two channel linear PCM? If so this is most unfortunate!

Even if I knew how to get into the service menu I wouldnt mess with it unless I was a trained Tech. You mess with it and screw things up it voids the warrentee and your left trying to fix the tv at your own cost.

Will try that out tonight and report back.

Am I being too concerned about this perceived jittering? My impression was that there should be ZERO on Smooth or Clear settings, but I feel like I do see it on horizontal pans and football games.

Like I said it seems to be a trend. The bigger the tv the bigger the chance of clouding and again this isnt happening just with the HX750 but other brands as well. It seems to me that the manufactuers are having screen uniformity issues when they make the larger tv's. To bad they dont check for this at the factory because then this wouldnt be an issue. That being said.......

Amazon is excellent all around. From their customer service, shipping and price's they are excellent.

Oh Nooooo!

I just checked my order status from Dell and it has been pushed back from the 5th to the 18th. WTF!??? Not happy!

We fly from California to Massachusetts for a 2 week vacation on the 22nd...

Also, i didn't receive an actual update from Dell i had to log into the site to check it, and the page says that if i don't give them permission to proceed with the order they have to Cancel.

And they haven't even called or e-mailed me about it. Wow not impressed.

Looking around on their site i don't see too many other TVs i would want in replacement, lots of the good ones are in stock or higher priced.

Don't know what to do now.

Gonna cry.

haha

Well if you get it on the 18th you should be ok because you leave on the 22nd. I would call them just to be sure and if they give you grief then cancel the order and place another order when you get back. That sucks though and sorry to hear it.
I called and complained so they gave me the HT-CT150 Sound Bar for free.... as long as the TV arrives before the 22nd i guess i'll be ok smile.gif

I'm a bit concerned about wether my tv is defective. I did switch to game made and it helped. But on Blu rays there is noticeable blocking around fast moving objects and people on smooth motionflow. I thought it was supposed to eliminate all traces of blur. Is my tv ok?

Motionflow can create artifacts, especially smooth or standard. They are supposed to remove judder not blur, clear and clear plus are what you want to get rid of blur, they also cause less artifacts. Though you haven't mentioned if you get the blocking with Motionflow off.

Hey Steve, where i am at, tv is broadcast at 50hz, so not sure if that makes a difference but smooth or standard just look awful. People look like they are on fast forward. I only use standard for 3D blu rays because without it the flicker hurts my eyes, but that's another story.

For my needs clear is the sweet spot, very little backlight drop and motion just looks crisper. It is said in many reviews that the native motion resolution on these panels with no Motionflow is 300 lines, with it on smooth or standard around 700 and on clear, clear plus and impulse that goes up to 1080 lines. I think clear looks great, it's supposed to add backlight scanning to reset your eyes and i can see the benefit.

Its all about what you want from it tbh mate, it works for me though.

Going back to the response time/lag discussion from earlier... it was mentioned that a website stated the television has about 30ms lag time, right?

I wonder if they tinkered around with labelling the different sources to "PC" or "Game"

Yesterday i was reading on the LG LM7600 owner's thread and it was mentioned that testing done on that set provided about 33ms lag, but if you labeled the source to "PC" there was perceivably 0ms lag.

Sounds silly, BUT i definitely remember a very big discussion on the Samsung owner's thread for my current TV where they found the same thing to be true, and i seem to recall that a specific HDMI port to work better with this method (HDMI 2 i think).

Does anyone know if this has been tried on the HX750 model and what the results are?

Would be nice if there was a site out there that did extension testing for things like that on various sets for us gamers... haha

Does this set have local dimming?
