The review has a couple or errors:

"Full Array backlighting for better lighting control"
"Cool monolithic design"

None of that is true.

Going back to the CNET review, I would just like to point out that they measure black level in Foot Lambert (fL) and not cd/m2. So the value have to be converted first especially when comparing to reviews from Europe site (as they use cd/m2 for black level reading).

That review is so fake it's funny , that review is "Fugazi" lol

Well set up my 55HX750 today gotta say I'm loving it , bought this Init stand at bestbuy today and I'm sure I overpaid for it ( $300 ) but I got the fever and just had to get my tv up . I'm using 49merc's settings ( but the way thanks ) I'll play around with them a lil see if I can tweak it , but I gotta admit its looks hella nice as it stands now . These are just my first impressions , I'll post up some more after I watch a Blu-ray , check out the 3d and try out my Xbox and ps3 .

Do you find the black levels as weak as cnet said? I love the look of this tv. Very classic, stylish.

Is there a way to get rid of recommendations on the cross bar ?

Hmmmm cable box went on standby ( have optimum ) had the black screen saver up and definitely saw clouds , one especially large one on upper left corner....( damn this site for making me aware of them , lol ) .... Being as Sony and everyone else is giving consumers the run around on this issue I'm not gonna stress out over it , ima keep an eye on it though and see if it gets better or worse with time .... I do see light leakage , but again knew about it , so not gonna stress .

Watched a ill of tron in 3d and it's pretty dark neither thing was noticeable ..... By the way 3d at home is ehhhhh at best , I'd rather watch 3d at a theater it just wasnt as immersive at home. With that said though there was no crosstalk ( if you set the depth at +2 you might get some depending on content ) ... Ill post some more this afternoon

Pause the a movie on a all black background while the LEDs are active , do it in the complete dark turn off all lights , let your eyes adjust to the dark , if you have either you'll see it . I almost don't want to tell you as you'll only annoy yourself lol , some people have really bad clouding on certain tvs where they can see it at anytime they have a dark scene . I barely noticed mine , I was messing with my iPad for about a half hour in the dark and the DVR went into standby only then i noticed a nice sized cloud on upper left corner , it sucks it's there but as long as its not disturbing me when I'm viewing anything I can live with it .

The cross bar is the menu I think sonly calls it the Xross media bar . Im not a fan of having ads forced on me , I'm sure there's a way to get rid of them just haven't figured it out yet ....

Sorry, for the delayed response. The 750 was simply available for sale on the web site. Generally they do have older models, but for whatever reason they had it, so I went for it. The 850 was not, however, available.

I ended up returning my HX750 and I think I'll be trying out a HX850 when I can pick it up locally, wasn't impressed with the bright corners, uneven back-light and weaker blacks than other sets.

For the life of me I can't figure out how to turn off the ads under recommendations , on NX720 I was told it was under preferences , it's a no go for that on hx750 . I'm starting to think you can't turn them off ????

Nah, I had a 46" 723 but it had flash-lighting and there were no more for exchange locally, so I returned for a refund and picked up the HX750 that way. I tried 2 46" HX750's before I decided to forgo this particular model and step up to the HX850 but to be completely honest I'm beginning to doubt any of the current LED TV's will meet my standards and I think I'm going to have to go plasma to get the uniformity/blacks I like.

I believe the clear and clear plus mode use backlight blinking/strobing which causes the image to lose some brightness.

[Motionflow]
[Smooth]: Provides smoother picture movement; especially effective for film-based content.
[Standard]: Provides smoother picture movement for standard use.
[Clear]: Reduces motion blur while maintaining brightness for high-speed picture content.
[Clear Plus]: Reduces motion blur for high-speed picture content more than [Clear].
[Impulse]: Reproduces original picture quality. Provides cinema-like picture, which may flicker.
[Off]: Use this setting if [Smooth], [Standard], [Clear], [Clear Plus] or [Impulse] results in picture noise.
(Depending on the picture content, you may not see the effect visually even if you have changed the settings.)

[CineMotion]
[Auto 1]: Provides smoother picture movement than the original film-based content by applying a film-specific process. Use this setting for standard use.

First post! I recently received a 46" HX750 as a warranty replacement from Sony Canada for my 46" EX720 that had a patch of dead pixels after about 8 months of use. Here are the issues I have with this new television:

1. The North American model of this television, which I have, includes a similar plastic swivel tabletop stand as previous year models. Take a look at the easel stand included with the Sony UK model HX753 on their website. I do not understand why Sony decided to stick with the plastic tabletop stand in the North American model, but I believe they should have adopted the easel stand considering the price tag and along with the fact that the HX series is in the top tier of Sony's television line. I have spoken to several Sony reps from North America and the UK and no one seems to know whats going on or how I can get this stand. The tabletop stand leaflet included with the HX753 says the easel stand is compatible with HX75x models (with the exception of the 55") so I'm assuming its compatible with the HX750. If anyone has any information as to how I can get my hands on this stand I would greatly appreciate it!

2. I was disappointed to find a stuck pixel during a cut scene of a movie I was watching recently. Its only one blue stuck sub pixel but I'm sure most of you know how hard it is to sleep at night knowing its there. What are the chances of the warranty replacement television for dead pixels having a stuck pixel? No wonder Sony has been having a rough time... I spoke to a rep the other day and I'm most likely getting a replacement since this quality is unacceptable, especially for a brand new television. Hopefully the replacement is in good shape otherwise I might opt for the HX850 for the extra few dollars.

Other than those major issues I'm pleased with the HX750. The CNET reviews claim that the black levels are "washed out" but I honestly have no problem as long as the backlight is set to a minimum. The 240 Hz or "clear" Motionflow setting really shines in live HD sports but any of the higher Motionflow settings affect brightness so I never use them. I haven't really had time to test the 3D capabilities but apparently the HX750 has a 4 X High Speed 3D panel that reduces ghosting (a major issue with the EX720) so I will try a 3D movie and get back to you guys about it.

The HX729 did not have a mat screen but rather a very reflective outer screen-I believe more reflective than the 820/850 Gorilla Glass. Having the 55HX729 since December, I deal with the screen reflections of an otherwise near-perfect set-no flash lighting, MotionFlow 480, great 3D with minimal Xtalk. What I'm saying is, if you don't want the step up 850, better cheek the reflectivity of the 750 as it may be like the 729.

I'm in Canada but assume that would affect us too; not sure. I'm still thinking about the 929 too, but it seems unavailable here and I think I read 3D is much improved for 2012 models?

just wondered if anyone has entered the service menu to look up the panel's manufacturer? It would be interesting to know which panel is used (Manufacturer and what type of panel like PVA or MVA), because Sony used two panel types in the old EX720 series in 46".

I just got my 55hx750 last night. When I was looking into it the one question I could not find answered directly was whether it will passthrough 5.1 over it's optical out...

The answer is yes it will passthrough 5.1. At least for my Dish receiver and my Xbox360.

As for settings... I was horrified at the PQ when I first turned this thing on. I'm coming from a 46 inch Wega rear projection (KDF-46E200) that from my subjective viewing at the time that I bought it had the best picture quality of pretty much any television on display at every store in the area. SO, I hooked this new bad boy up and about freaked when the PQ was awful, heh. I spent some time messing with picture settings and I think the biggest impact to be had was turning sharpness WAY down. I think I have it set at 25 currently. Some content seemed to like 15 better and others liked 30 better... 25 seemed to be the sweet spot I guess. I don't have any calibration tools but my own two eyes, but really, isn't that what matters anyways? I'll probably be tweaking it for the next month, but the PQ now blows away my old set.

Has anybody here checked their screen uniformity with grey or other solid colored backgrounds? I currently have a 55HX729 that displays a shadowy grid pattern that sometimes makes itself visible during normal content in light or solid colored scenes, or whenever the camera pans. I was wondering if the 750 has any of these issues, in case I needed to return the 729 and upgrade to the newer model. Thanks!
