Hey guys heres a shot of my HT. Let me know what you guys think and sorry about the glare but it couldnt be helped. A PS3 is gonna be added soon. The pic is also a little crooked thanks to the wife! lol. I have to say that the Samsung sounbar has really surprised me by the booming sound it gives off. Its alot better then I thought it would be. An AV Reciever will replace it once we get into our own place next summer but for now it does its job very very well. This is the best my setup has looked so far and its going to stay this way for a long while.

Very Happy with my set
I found one dead pixel. frown.gif It's not too bad, but I know that it's there. It's only visible on really light back grounds. I only noticed it when my nephew was playing the start of Assassins Creed. I have two days left before my return period ends, but don't have the time to exchange it. All the Best Buys in my area don't even have any in stock. Aside from that and the clouding at the corners, I'm really happy with it. It is so much better than the Samsung I returned. Last weekend I watched a little bit of Prometheus in 3D and was impressed by the visuals. For 999.99 + tax and a free sound bar I'm happy.

Has anyone ever bought a SquareTrade or Sony etended warranty? I can get a 4 year SquareTrade for 129.00 or a Sony 5 year for 199.99. My last Sammy was slowly dying after 4 years and finally died a few months back. An extended warranty is something thats been in my head since this last purchase.

Get a warranty. You never know when you might need it. I have a 2 year one from Sony.

My HX750 right after I put it on the wall before I hid any of the wires back in May.... Up next is to upgrade the 5.1 from my E570 to the BDVN790W. Wireless rear speakers are a must!

Oh that little guy? Its a Nintendo Wii. Moved it to the bedroom and put the Wii U and PS3 out there to replace it. With a TV like that, it only seemed right!

Ok thats what it is, lol. Hopefully I will have a PS3 by the end of the week so I can check out gaming on my tv on my own. Used my friends PS3 for a day but I hated the games he gave me to try....they sucked! So hopefully I will have one by the end of the week to add to my HT setup. biggrin.gif

Hey guys, got my hx 750 a couple of weeks ago, then read the cnet review, was surprised how bad it was , got me thinking if I should go for hx850 , can somebody tell me if the PQ is really that much better on hx 850 and worth an extra $600 ? I appreciate it
post #707 of 1878
Um...

You bought an HX750. You owned it for several weeks. THEN you read a bad review and decided that the TV was bad, therefore to get a new one. Let me ask you this first: Do you have ANY problems with your set? If you don't, why do you want to upgrade?

First I wouldnt take every review that Cnet does as gospel and second if your not having any issues with your HX750 then why upgrade? And no the PQ aint that much better then the HX850 and there was little difference between the 2 sets. If your not having any issues with your set then I wouldnt upgrade because Cnet "says" the HX750 aint that good. That would be foolish in my book.

Well said clancy.

I would be curious to see a professional review post firmware updates. As much as people think it's not possible, my set used to have some slight (and I mean slight) backlight bleed, and now it is virtually non-existent. I don't know if this is due to my setting tweaks, firmware updates, or a combination of the two - but regardless I am curious if those reviews would turn out any different post firmware updated. Having said that, I don't know if my blacks are any 'blacker' - which was one of the issues with the reviews I think - but I think its the vertical viewing angle that's really killing me on my set.
Well Clancy688 if I didn't think the PQ could be better I wouldn't be asking for advice. My question is plain and simple , is it worth 600$ more or not ? I haven't seen 850 that's why I'm asking
post #711 of 1878
Well, okay.

Apparently, its 3D is better. No stuttering or glimmering. Then it has gorilla glas. And it has a X-Reality Pro image processor, therefore its upscaling capabilities may be better.
Thanks Clancy , 3d is not as important to me , definitely doesn't justify the extra $$$, and I did read the review the day I got it , stumbled upon it while looking for good settings, on this thread I think, then read a couple more reviews. But when it comes to people who own it everyone seems to be happy with it .

One review said that the "black levels" are not as deep while watching a movie in a dark room, does that mean I'm better off watching a movie with the lights on? smile.gif interesting
post #714 of 1878
did anyone buy extra tv warranty coverage?

This set looks really good alone, and better than most brands side by side. I was almost sold after weeks of looking at various stores until I saw a 850 set-up exactly the same side by side with the 750. The blacks were deeper with more shadow detail, the whites were really way above the 750. Was watching a mountain snowboard run, and the snow was bright with plenty of detail, not blown out on the 850. The same snow scenes on the 750 lacked punch, contrast, and the snow looked grey in comparison.

Note, if I was just watching the 750 alone, it was pretty darn good. Put it along side the 850 and the difference was very apparent. Also the side angle viewing was better as well. IMHO

I will have to rethink my game plan. I was all set to buy the 55hx-750, but after seeing the 850, I think I'll step down in size and go with the 46hx-850. The price on the 55" hx-850 is a bit too steep for my blood, but could do the 46" price. I'm going to wait till mid January to see if the prices fall a bit more and then decide if I want to pony up for the cost of a 55" 850.

My background: I'm a graphics professional and stare at calibrated high end LaCie monitors all day. I'm very sensitive to image quality and accuracy. YMMV:)

I have an HX750 and I really like it (46") but need a bigger screen. I am going to move it upstairs and replace it with a 55". I am looking at the HX850 but am nervous about the gorilla glass (and glossy finish) since this is for a bright room.
Anyone know if the HX850 is a good call for a bright room or should I just go with the 750 in the 55" class?
P.S. Sorry that I first posted this as a thread and not just a reply.

Thanks jsdad , very good post. It's interesting though that the black levels are such a big thing when it comes to tvs these days , I honestly really don't mind if the blacks are a little bit grayer than they are supposed to be , I care more about the contrast and the sharpness , the clarity of the image , but may be those issues are connected , I don't know. It's obvious that the 850 PQ is better but if its only the black levels , I think I'll just stick with a cheaper 750 .

Sorry idk how my post ended up in your quote
post #719 of 1878
sounds like the 850 is a winner but you may want to see if the price drops a bit next month.

Blacks will be worse in a dark room with no light because of how our eyes perceive light. In a dark room your pupils open to let in more light thus making blacks on the tv appear lighter. This is why its a good idea to view tv with some ambient light, that and your pupils constantly contracting and opening depending on the scene is fatiguing for your eyes.
