That is my favorite part of this whole situation. CBS did more for Hopper by disqualifying it than if they had just let it win.

The networks are going to fight to the death against any technology that kills their life-blood, the commercial. They were successful before, as I remember, getting the same technology removed from early DVRs with court action. I do not remember if it was a settlement or court ruling then.

But they were unsuccessful getting DVR technology quashed. That, in itself, allows you to fast forward through commercials. The Hopper does not remove the commercials, it just skips most of it at the users request. The commercials are still there and can be viewed if the user wants to see them. That is the difference between it and the old technology that actually removed the commercials.

But does the Hopper do a good job, and by that I mean is it accurate in by-passing the commercial? I would settle for that, especially if it does it quickly.

Yes it is accurate and does a good job.

You get maybe 5 seconds of the beginning of the first commercial and 5 seconds of the end of the last. The rest is simply gone. If there is a network commercial at the beginning, such as a teaser for a network program, you get it all....

if it "news", then it's something for nothing ... at DBStalk the news when it was news, been discussed ad nauseum ... now it's just politics practically irrelevant to the thread and totally irrelevant to the Hopper as it's a thread about different hopper aka "hopper 2000" while co-award got Hopper 2 (hopper with sling) model; ah, whatever ...

Is there a way to set the Hopper to native output? I would like to let my AV pre/pro do all the video processing.

No, it only outputs HD in 720P, 1080I, and (for some PPV) 1080P...

BTW I love my Hopper. I have had it for over 2 months now. I love the prime time anytime. Several times I have been channel surfing and found something interesting so I went back and watched the whole show. I have the OTA modules for both Hoppers so I could be recording 11 programs at one time. I also have the sling adapter so my wife can watch shows while on business trips to China.

Why? His wife goes on trips to China and you only need one Sling Adapter for that.

The Sling Adapter hardware is not a lemon at all. Now the website playback is problematic at times...

Well, let's see, I've had mine for about a year and it still works just like it is supposed to. You undoubtedly don't have one, you just like to stir the pot with your little finger.....

I'm not interesting to stir the pot ... just got bad taste after reading MANY complains about the SA at DBStalk. Check by yourself.

I'm sorry, but I do not have the time. But I do have a Sling Adapter that I bought on the first day of it's release for $99 and the hardware has been perfect for years. I'll bet all that noise over on DBStalk really refers to software and not hardware, and not even the SlingPlayer software, but rather Dish server software.

It's a hit and mess ... dish just changing SAa, ppl can't get it recognized after a few exchanges ... no red light...

My Hopper seems to be malfunctioning! I noticed the other day the Hopper did not record a how I had a timer set for. So I went to the timer and selected timer schedule and it said NO EVENT SCHEDULED. Then I started looking at my other timers and about 2/3s of them were the same way. I had about 65 timers and my hard drive was about 85% full if that has anything to do with it. So I went and I did a search for some of the shows I had timers for and it says NO RESULTS or shows episodes Iv'e already recorded. It's like the Hopper is not receiving program data. I called tech support and he said he would have to report this to the engineers as he has no idea what would cause the problem. I have reset the Hopper and unplugged the Hopper for 30 seconds and that has not fixed it. Do you guys have any idea what the problem is. Thanks for your help!

No, we are not. To answer to such question, you should have access/manage source code and test it in full config to ru/re-run the case ...

Thanks for the reply P Smith. I'm not sure what you mean as you went way over my head on that one lol. I was reading another thread that was talking about number of timers being the issue but I'm not sure that's the answer. I'll keep looking.

Thanks for all the hopper help You guys gave me. I love my Hoppers. Now however I have talked my sister-in-law into getting a Hopper system also. She has two HDTVs and two SDTVs and wants to get two Hoppers and two Joeys. Will Dish give her any problems with the fact that two of the TVs, probably the two connected to Joeys, will not be HDTVs?

Not at all, as long as there are two Joeys along with the two Hoppers all will be well. I should note that there is an equipment increase coming up next month and that second Hopper, including yours, is going to cost an extra $7 a month more. Along with that Whole Home is an extra $4. So, it's going to cost you, and your sister-in-law a bit more....

That price increase sucks big time.

Wait a second. When I went to the Hopper system my DVR service price went form $6 to $10. Did I already see that increase or is this $4 in addition to the $10? Also they Charge me $7 already for the second Hopper is that going to be $14?

I am already charged $31 per month for equipment costs (3 extra TV + DVR service). This $11 would bring the equipment total to $42 per month or $504 per year. Since both of my previous Dish STB lasted 6 years that brings the total estimated cost for the Hopper over its expected life to $3024. Kind of crazy.

I felt that Dish had become the technology leader with the Hopper but it looks like they are pricing themselves out of the market.

Your DVR service is increasing from $10 to $14, and your 2nd Hopper is going from $7 to $14. So you are facing an $11 increase on top of what you're already paying today. These new fee increases became public knowledge just a few days ago. Most folks are very unhappy about this.

Before I got the Hopper my monthly charges for equipment was $14 for two extra STB (the 3rd was free as it was the 2nd TV for my 622) plus $6 DVR fee for a total of $20. After I got the Hopper this went to $31 as I stated before. Now I hear that will go to $42. That yields an extra $22 for the Hopper. As I said that is crazy. Quite possibly my sister-in-law will rethink getting a Hopper system.
