Building a media room

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I'm 14 and I'm setting up a media room, and I don't want to get a professional. I'd like to learn all of this myself, but if court goes well (dad doesn't want me to move) I'll be moving to Florida. The house we bought came with a media room with a some-what setup sound system... Which I'm thinking I should just buy everything new again. I'm wanting to build a 5.1 system, where I can find speakers and a receiver myself but I need some help setting it up. We have 3 theater chairs with already installed bass shakers...This is my biggest issue. I have no idea how these set up. I heard you have to use a sub amp where I don't know where to get, how powerful it should be, and how the damned thing hooks up. If someone could give me a diagram or explain how to hook up a sub woofer and 3 bass shakers that'd be f-ing rad. Any more needed info I could get you, but I'm heading back to Wisconsin today so please reply fast if you have any idea because I don't know what info you guys need. Thanks in advance.

Not impressed. We keep it mature and civil around here. But you have come to the right forum.
Which shakers do you have on the chairs? And what other equipment do you plan on using? For example do you currently have a receiver? Which model number etc.....

Shakers I will have to check in a bit, and I'm planning on the ONKYO TX-NR414, which I don't think is out yet.

I'm starting to think this website has only 2 or 3 experienced people.

LOL I got it...and I laughed, probably more than I should have.

Evoode. Room size, goals, and budget. Those questions will usually come up in this type of conversation.

Are you just looking for wiring help, or deciding what type of speakers to get? This is the DIY forum and while you may get some responses on the newegg linked speakers, that isn't REALLY what the forum is about. Most people build their own here, and what they are buying, they pay more PER SPEAKER than what you have listed (budget).

While the speakers you listed may be OK (goals) they will show their limits when trying to fill a "media room" (room size).

I just realized my username is spelled wrong, but yeah...sometimes I get a bit carried away. I'm really just looking for wiring help.

Even if you just need wiring help, we still need more info on the shakers. You might need a three channel amp, maybe one. I don't know much about shakers, but impedance and power handling specs are kinda important.

I just visited the house and took pics and a video. I'm flying back to WI right now, so I'll upload it tonight.

It's funny that you came to that conclusion in a mere 25 minutes. Have you even taken a look around here to see what's doin'?

Subscribed - because I enjoy reality TV too.

If you're just going to comment on whats been said get out of this forum. Reply something that's actually useful to me.

Apparently not.

If you look at my start date here in the AVS forums, you'll see that I'm not going anywhere, and if you take a look at any of my posts in the forums, you'd see that I'm more than willing to help you out, but you are being a bit pushy, kid.

Just ask your questions and be patient for answers. You were complaining that (in your words) "I'm starting to think this website has only 2 or 3 experienced people." in just 25 minutes of asking your question. If you just chill a bit and maybe look around at various threads here, you'll see that you won't find any more friendly and experienced people ANYWHERE in the world of audio/video.

Good luck to you.

I had only said that because (like you) people had only talked about me snapping at the first response. And grow up, don't call me "kid". Also adding that those are the only two responses that had nothing to do with the topic I asked about. And another edit, if you've ever heard the term "call of duty (bundle of sticks)" It's the same with saying "see my join date?" It's like you saying you're a higher prestige than everyone and because of it you're automatically better. I would like some information about bass shakers and how to wire them, not advise.
Take it easy "kid". I only use it that term....well because you told me not to.

We'd be glad to help you out but you haven't answered the questions directed back to ya. What kind are they? Where are the pictures/video you took?

First, grow up. Second, I used my moms Iphone for it so it will be up tomorrow because I'm heading to bed.

LMAO

This reminds me of the foriegn guy that would always want that not boom boom bass!

To the OP, you are hurrying us up only to wait. Your questions will be answered if you answer all the questions we ask. If youre just worried about the seats then the DIY section of this forum may not be the correct place for your post. In any case, most of the people that hang out in this section are more willing and able to answer just about anything that has to do with audio/video. Youre in good hands, so if you post all the specific info then you will be able to get pleanty of help.

One piece of advice, complaining about how fast your questions are answered without supplying the needed info for them to be answered is childish. Stating your young age and typing stuff like one would read on a topix thread wont get you anywhere other than on the big screen. This is a "science forum" where specifics play a large role.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your project.

Hmm.

First bit of advice, stop shopping on Newegg for speakers.

Second, you are bottom of the food chain here bruv. Most of the people you have interacted with thus far have forgotten more than you wish to learn. Show some respect.

Third, have an adult proofread your posts so you can more effectively communicate information without all of the asshat overtones.

The rest will have to wait. My Redenbacher's is done and I would hate for it to burn, we all know how foul that can be.
Lol. I would tell everyone to just calm down but that would rile people up more so instead let's all have a shot of jäger on me (only if you're of legal drinking age of course ).

This is getting real good. Im staring to think this room is a nursery and not a media room. Does your mum know you are on adult forums. You really should ask your mum for permission to use the computer first. Lol. With langauge and attitude like this you are going to get know where fast on here.
