After one week with my E8000 running full screen Hbo (no logo) movies and leaving the various color "burn-in slides" running in a loop all day while I am at work( just to age it cool.gif), I noticed some distinct screen flaws...
On any white screen slide or programming, the screen shows definite pink tinting in certain regions and faint yellow in others - still visible in the light gray screens if not worse! My white screen is nowhere near white even on cool color settings.I have tried reduced contrast and cell and that did not help (running C95 B45 Cell 20 usually= beautiful pic smile.gif)
In addition, in other Color slides I can see some other small 3-5" elongated patches of darker screen plus a wide 10" band of slightly darker screen running along the bottom PLUS small vertical dark lines running 6" down from the top on both sides. And, I have a bad pixel(s). Lastly when running the Rolling White, the transition area was pulsing bright flashes like a pular star eek.gif
I have had a Sammy plasma for five years before this and now how to take care of them- My old 5064 had an Antiglare screen which did put a pink tint on a white screen at certain angles so I know what that looks like- it aint that! NOR did it ever flash like a strobe with the rolling white screen!
I am sure they will replace the screen, but I sure hope I dont get a Buzzer .. wish me luck!!

I am assuming you bought this at Best Buy and with these uniformity issues why are you not swapping this out (I looked at your posting history) since your set appears to be new. I don't know what size you have but on both of my "refurbished sold as new" PN51E8000s I did not have great uniformity. With respect to the first, I did have an issue on the right hand side with the scrolling bar showing quite extensive dithering (lots of dancing red pixels) in the bottom right quadrant. Looking at the screen I could see there was non-uniformity there and I posted an image of this here and on AVforums. My second one did not have these dithering effects (but did have one stuck red pixel and 4 flickering ones) and also a horizonal bar covering a third lengthwise of the bottom 2" of the screen.

My GT50 is not perfect either and that has a slightly lighter band (some 0.5" wide) almost at the right edge of the screen. Otherwise uniformity is very good. I will say that in reviews, other than those with HDTVtest in the UK, non-uniformity seems to be largely glossed over. The current batch of plasmas from Panasonic and Samsung are definitely a lot better than your current high-end LCDs when it comes to uniformity but I do wish that other than HDTVtest the other decent review sites would pay more attention to this. CNET, with the Panasonics finally acknowledged in one of their later reviews, that quite a few people were having uniformity issues. So, did they not notice this, were they given selected units (this makes a lot of sense as anyone in marketing who just sends any old TV out to be reviewed on a major site is being derelict in his duties if he does not send out a "representative" sample and not one which is afflicted by a problem only afflicting a relatively small minority of TVs)? However, I do think these non-uniformity issues are not that rare and relatively widespread although some people do indeed have sets with very good uniformity.

Hmm I am certainly aware of uniformity issues... I also have the 51.

I am having a repair guy coming to either fix or swap, since as I said I have "multiple" issues wink.gif = I did use my 200 gift card to spend on a 4 yr protection so why not tongue.gif

Did your tv do the flash in the Rolling white? I think that really convinced me to call, since I am not usually a whiner and can accept some degree of imperfection..

Why are you not swapping this out? I do not know of anybody, be it a Panasonic or Samsung 2012 plasma owner having these type of issues fixed by a repair, barring a panel being swapped out. This, from all accounts, is due to the manufacturing process. As I said, when I ran the scrolling bar, as soon as it hit the far right of the screen I would see two columns, easily 2" wide each and extending halfway up the screen light up with dancing red pixels on a darker background. This would show up on panning "normal" content as non-uniformity (think scenes of football)

I know that Best Buy do not have the 60" in the E6500 but can you not swap this out for the 60"E7000 and pay a few hundred dollars extra? They are definitely better with far superior blacks and much better IR resistance from all accounts. It was a similar story with last year's models (poorer blacks and less IR resistance). With the larger size you may get a buzzer (neither of my 51" E8000s buzzed). That just seems the way the larger Samsungs have been at times.
Just going one step at a time smile.gif I dont feel like hefting that baby downstairs and over to the store...or shipping it back to the big A which was my other place to buy.. I paid for the convenience of "in home service" so I am sure they will either swap the panel or bring me a new one

As far as getting a larger size.. I would take your suggestion but my wife would give me hell for spending over 2k on a new tv eek.gif ... got the top of the line as it is LOL
post #2705 of 4151
Pn51E7000 arrived about 3 hours ago! It is a Sept '12 build with mrt 13hrs. Updated the tv, messed around with it alittle, and checked right away for any buzz..ZERO buzzing! I mean what is there is if I hold my ear close to the back of the set and is exactly the same if not less than the ST50 I had. So no issue on either set in regard to that. Right now the set is being ran with the break in slides and with me being injured, I will have to wait until a friend comes over to put it back on the wall.
I do like that there has been no immediate IR thus far wtih the set. Had that problem day one with the Panny (Viera ads or picture menus left quick onset IR)

ONE interesting side note...purchased the tv from BestBuy where they said the smart touch remote was included(on their website) yet it was not in the box. Called BestBuy and they are working on sending one to me. Although the process has not been as smooth as I would of liked (return a set, buy a new set, missing extra remote, having to re-send reward points) BestBuy has been more than willing to help any way possible and has suprisingly given me no hassle. This is the same store and location I swore never to shop at again about 3 years ago. I gave them another chance and they have changed completetly from my previous experiences, so kudos to them...or at least my local store anyways. Will post update/comparison later on and get back to those who have PMd.

UPDATE:
BestBuy did not have the remote in stock at my local store so they had mentioned Samsung will be calling me in regard to the set...this should be fun...yesterday when I inquired about this very topic with a rep. from Samsung chat they informed me that the remote does not come with that tv. I told them i know but BestBuy has it listed that they include it with the E7000. Half the time Samsung chat people do not know proper English..just waiting to see how this goes...maybe I will receive a gift card or something in the end lol.

Hi everyone, first post on this thread. I just returned a 60E8000 for the pink issue. I had returned a 65GT50 for anomilies I just couldn't live with. I purchased the E8000 and thought I had a winner, sharp picture, non-buzzer, etc. I was watching the last "Star Trek" movie, the part where Kirk gets ejected from the ship, and lands on the frozen, snowy planet, where he meets older Spock and Scottie. In that scene the pink really shone through. It covered most of the ice and snow. I then put in "The Day After Tomorrow" and in the beginning of that movie the pink was even worse. I picked up my replacement this Monday, set it up and checked for pink in "The Day After Tomorrow". It was there, not as dark, but still there. I'm running the slides now, why not, and will continue to watch it, until I can decide how bad the pink issue is, with some time on it. And this one buzzes to boot, could live with this level of buzzing, if the rest of the tv was free of defects. Good chance it may go back also. Might try the es8000 if this keeps up.

My question is if anyone knows if the pink coloration on certain whites is normal for this tv? Or what may be causing the problem. I had the first e8000 set on cinema, with Katz's settings. I checked the replacement with the default cinema mode. Would a calibration fix this problem, or changing some settings for that matter. It's really hard to look at a snow and ice picture, when it's pink. It might be visible other times also.

Regards.

If you got your tvs from Best Buy, be careful. At 5 returns, withing 90 days, they cut you off. Happened to me this weekend. I actually only returned 3 tvs, but I did some credit card purchase swapping with these returns to stay on the bb card. (Long story) I am in no way bashing BB, because honestly they have been extremely accommodating and their employees have really helped me out. The only way I was able to make my last return was the fact that the girl helping me was on top of it, and she let me use my wife's driver's license number instead of mine to "trick" the system. Two of my returns were due to just not being happy with the tvs that I brought back, but the last one was due to the buzzing. Not sure if they make an exception for cases such as yours that seem like a defect, just check before you go down the road I did.
I am sorry to hear about that with your E8000s. Did you check the date they were manufactured? So far I have no buzzing and no pinkness on any of my whites.
I did get them from BB. When I returned the second tv, e8000, I was told to be carefull about bringing another one back within a certain amount of time. An employee played "Day After Tomorrow" on the set and saw the pink, said it was defective and wanted me to swap it out, instead of getting a refund. I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, and try another one. No I haven't yet checked the manufacture date.

Thanks for the reply.

Regards.

had this issue with my E6500. Noticed snow had a reddish tint while watching planet earth blu ray.

In process of having Samsung come to fix this issue. my quick research online showed this to be a white balance issue- not sure if anyone has had this fixed via calibration??

I Use my PS3(fatty) for my bluray player and I have never been able to see 3D come out of my screen (with ST50 or last years Samsung 5 series plasma) with the scenes people say to use as reference for the gimmick stuff. I already know depth vs pop out effect. On displays at stores I see it but not at home. Trying to see if PS3 is the culprit. I have resident evil 3D, Journey 2 3D, Avengers 3D and more but never had anything leave beyond window. For those with e7000/8000 using a ps3, have you had content "leap out" of the screen? Yes I know gimmicky and all that other stuff but I want to take full advantage of my 3D set. Thanks!
EDIT:
For the record I will say the ST50 kicked the Samsung Series 5(last years plasma) butt. Depth looked beautiful but I did notice a little bit of cross talk. Very interested to see how this set compares to the 7000.

Wanted to follow up with this post in case anyone was wondering...the E7000 is drop dead amazing in regard to 3D. I have always thought it was my PS3 who was the culprit due to lack of 3D pop but in all actuality it was the TV. I did purchase a Sony 3D player from Walmart just for comparison and I actually prefered the PS3. I was dumbfounded by the increased depth and lack of cross talk. Hands down better than the ST50 for 3D. Other than that I have not watched much televsion but plan to make comparsions within the next week.

EDIT:
I am also very happy I went with the E7000 vs E6500 because of the dual core processor. The E7000 is faster than the ST50 and I really could not deal with the smart tv if it were any slower such as the E6500 would be. So far very happy with the set...only wish I could of afforded the larger model.
As I posted I have bad pinking but ONLY in certain areas so a "uniformity issue". I am guessing it has to do with the screen coating but I am no engineer.. I did look at it from different angles just to check it wasnt like an antiglare filter that was causing it but it is distinct even on light gray slides so it really is in the display itself..

3D is totally new for me apart from Imax wink.gif but after some tinkering including bumping gamma +1 and some (the horror= dynamic contrast!) I got a really nice bright 3D pic even on Harry Potter dark scenes.. I am guessing crosstalk is what I am seeing from time to time when my eyes hurt from trying to refocus quickly when the image moves and I do definitely have that..Tried diff settings for +/- effect and depth and it works for some scenes or movies and not for others...any suggestions?
Has anyone else had or heard of the pink that I'm seeing in the ice, snow scenes? Would love to know if it's inherent to these models and or plasma in general. I did find my build date, which is August of this year, if that matters at all.

thats pretty amazing

perhaps you should have asked the Magnolia salesman to run the same HDMI feed to the Samsung and see if it looked worse

I own the Samsung E8000....but I have to say the VT is a better TV. It is also...as it should be...a more expensive TV

IMO...this year both the GT and VT Panny's are outstanding sets. They have raised the bar this year

In prior years they were close to the Samsungs...and again IMO not really worth the extra $$

This year..I would not say that especially with the new design to boot that Panny has

AND...I own the both the E8000 and the C8000 Samsung plasma

But...If I were to find a good deal on the 65" VT...who knows..:-)

I just got pn64e7000 today, and it has manufacture date April 2012. Is this something to concern? It seems like it has been on the shelf for the last six months. HOW DO I CHECK HOURS THAT HAS BEEN RUNNING ON THIS TV? Any advise is appreciated.

Manufacturing date really is of no concern and many retailers (eg Amazon) do not cycle their stock like a retailer of perishable products would do. There have been examples here with Amazon of two people ordering the same model TV in the same week and one of them will get a March build and another an August (both sets new). To check number of hours:

1. With the TV on, input this key sequence: MUTE, 7, 3, 7, ENTER
2. A menu will be displayed, do NOT press any more buttons.
3. Your panel's run time (in hours) is the "MRT" value.
4. Press power on the remote, the TV will turn off. The TV is now back to normal and may be turned on again.

Thank you PeterG for your quick response. Yes, the unit is brand new, and it shows just about right hours. I am still going through slides break-in. But I feel that this one buzzed a lot less compared to the one I returned. Will see after hook it up cable and blu-ray.

Is fluctuating brightness still a problem with this years samsungs or more specifically the e6500/e7000?

from what I've read fbr problems from older Samsung models was during dark scenes. on my e7000 I have no issue with dark scenes as I believe it's been fixed. I might be completely wrong that this was the issue. I can say that my set does have issue with fbr on brighter scenes. the screen gets brighter, than gets dimmer, sometimes quite often. really annoyed me. I feel I have tamed the issue significantly to where it's almost not even noticeable by adjusting cell light and brightness level. changing cell light from 20 to 18, and brightness from 54 to 50 has helped dramatically. hopefully a few more tweaks and it will completely gone, but as of now it is barely an issue. if I could just get rid of buzzing, this set would be perfect

Hi Guys,

Long time lurker. First time poster. First of all, let me thank all the posters here for sharing their experiences. It is truly informative and helped me in buying decisions.

I recently bought Samsung Plasma 51E7000. It has been running for more than a week now. I read a lot of about the plasma PQ and couldn't pass up the recent deal on Amazon. My first impression is WOW. The picture looks natural and motion handling is SUPERB. No more pixelation during games. It has also busted some of the myths that occupied my mind. This samsung plasma can get sufficiently bright. I have it set the brightness to 50 and anything above that the picture doesn't look natural. I have windows on the opposite wall of the TV and I can surely watch it during day time. I didn't run any slides and don't plan to. I just go home and watch whatever I like. The IR/Burn In doesn't look an issue so far. My wife watches a lot of content with channel logo and the TV doesn't seem to mind so far. I have set up the screensaver to pop up after 10 min of static image and that works well. My wife paused a netflix movie to go in the kitchen and after 10 min, the screen saver came on. This should also help in reducing IR/Burn in concern.

A couple of things that really got me curious. First is 3D. We watched Avatar on it and it was awesome. Very very natural and no eye strain at all. In fact, we forgot that we were wearing glasses. As an experiment, I tried to move closer to the TV and at about 2.5 feet from the TV, the 3D effect looked the best. I was surprised that even at such a close distance, I couldn't see pixels. It was all smooth picture. That makes me wonder whether I should have gone for a bigger TV (60 may be). We sit at around 9 feet from the TV. Is it too far for the 51 inch TV? We later watched IMAX Under the sea and we had a different experience. The 3D effects are more pronounced in this movie, but we started getting headache and my eyes started hurting. I don't know why but watching Avatar 3D is completely stress free on the eyes but IMAX movie gets me headache in 5 min. The IMAX movie was streamed from one of the samsung streaming services and I have Avatar blu-ray. Could that be the difference?

I knew the plasmas emit heat but for some reason I thought it is emitted from the back side. On my TV, the heat is emitted on the front side (screen side) and you can really feel it from 1 feet. The backside seems cool. Is this normal behavior? I am worried about it getting too hot and my toddler son touching it by accident.

This is a link to a youtube video (my first) I just posted. I think it's a pretty cool feature of my Galaxy S3 working with my PN60E7000. A member here shared an app with me called Samsung Smart View a while back, it wasn't available in the Play Store at the time and I still don't think it is. I was looking for an app that would mirror the phone on the TV screen like the Allshare Cast Dongle but it wasn't available at the time. This does the mirroring in reverse, shows TV content on the phone instead and allows the phone to be used as a remote for the tv. Anyway, like I said I thought it was pretty cool so I decided to make a video of it, some of you might find it interesting.

I have the app. Shoot me your gmail and I will share it with you via Google drive. I have 2 that work. But one is better as a remote while the other has that remote view feature.

OK so the ones I have are smart remote which does not go full screen on any 720p phone. I also have smart view on Google drive which is version 3.1.5. So if anyone has a newer one that works on a SIII or gnex please share. But if anyone wants this one shoot me your gmail address. Or I will link to the xda thread later once I find it again.

I will check the date of when it is manufactured and let everyone know as well. What is the current manufacture date people are seeing with NEW E7000/E8000 units? I am curious to see if many sets have been sitting or selling well.

My E7000 is dated August 2012 and has no perceivable buzz
