I recently purchased a 60ST50. It had some major pros, being the black levels and off angle and motion were noticeably superior to my samsung LN 55B650. But I still felt something was missing, mainly sharpness and clarity and just an overall enjoyable picture.
I though plasma wasnt for me, and back to LCD I go, reading the Cnet reviews plasma just dominated all the top spots for picture quality. I also hating dealing with black bars on LCD turning blueish offf angle, the motion, the uniformity, and more then likely clouding or flashlighting issues.
The problem was the only LCD's that looked like a major upgrade were the sharp elite and high end sony HX series tvs. The prices for both of of these TV's are so wickedly high though, my stomach refused to let me pay that much.
Before giving up on a new TV, I read through this entire thread. I was really on the fence between trying the 7000 or 6500 60 inch samsung plasma (8000 was a moot point to me, since i didnt care for paying extra for a cam and a mic).
I have a mild interest in 3D so i went the 7000 route as most professional reviews say its superb where as a the 6500 struggles with it.
The 7000 plasma TV is the most perfect tv I have ever had. The sharpness and clarity is amazing, and IMO it clearly puts it significantly above the Panasonics. The only thing the samsung gives up to the panasonic is blacks, and its not that huge of a difference.
I also like the fact that this TV has seriously no IR ever. I am not breaking it in, I am not gonna run slides, dont see the point.
If you think your not gonna enjoy plasma, its worth it to try this one out, it gives you LED like clarity, punch, and sharpness with the beauty of plasma tech such as excellent viewing angles, very rich colors, and excellent motion.
And if you can, get a 60 inch or higher, they have virtually no IR (51 inches have reported some IR) and the blacks are better.
I think samsung threw a plasma and a LED into a garbage disposal, and out came the e6500 e7000 e8000 plasma tvs GREAT tv
