Retried some stuff. If i switch my HTPC to 24p hz i can turn on CS on the TV just not at 60hz. if i stream video from my HTPC to samsung 3d dvd player the dvd will switch as needed and if 24 hz i can turn on CS. if i stream from HTPC to tv's media player using all share CS is not able to be turned on with any files i tried, that the DVD player would select as 24hz. maybe that helps? CS needs 24hz to be active.

600hz is just "marketing talk" (that TV uses 600hz subfield system to create for example 60hz picture) Main reason for better quality for gaming is that your new plasma operates in 60hz (games, tv..) which shows no more and no less what for example ps3/xbox produces. In nutshell,120hz displays just destroy gaming picture, showing 60hz/fps image two times in row.. it creates blurring as funny it sounds..

Just missing my HBO GO APP but i know its coming.

I'm really tempted to exchange my e6500 for an ST50 (even swap) or even the GT50 (+$300). I'm noticing brightness pops not only while watching hockey, but it happens while watching other content too, specifically animation. I have the e6500 set to Movie mode, but is this something that proper calibration would take care of? I know the ST50 suffers from the same "pops" in Standard mode, but Custom mode takes care of them. What to do??

I'm in the same boat as you. Difference is i have the 51'' E8000. I see the fluctuations alot on hockey, but very rarely on other content.

I am contemplating switching to 50'' GT50. As of yet though I have not heard enough either way to feel safe that the GT will not also have these issues.

This line bleed talk has me thinking twice about switching thou. I see very minimal line bleed on the E8000. Def not any from text as in the pics.

Because one is 24hz and the other isn't. Is there an output setting on your apple thingy?

I have noticed an annoying problem with the PN64E8000. In cinema smooth mode when panning it looks slightly blurry. Is this supposed to be a more realistic film mode? I did not notice this on my 2009 PN58B860. Blu-ray player is Oppo BDP-93.

Another possible problem sometimes when going all black the screen flickers. From both directv HD DVRs and blu-ray player.

I just Purchased the PN51E8000 primarily for gaming. What are the best picture settings I should set this TV?

you are correct no trouble with my pn60e8000 no buzz, color is great, blacks are great, 3d is good.

Hi. Any word on the black level on Samsungs 51" e-series? The bigger sets seem good, but how about those smaller sets?

I just bought the e7000 6in at BB yesterday. I liked what I saw in the store it was in their magnolia room and in my price range.

I am replacing a 5 year old Phillips 47 in LCD.

I cant find too many reviews on my new purchase though. Anyone give me a hand or tell my it was money well spent?

I'm not trying to be funny here but you seem to avoid the Bright Scene Pops issue with these Samsungs, Is there a Valid reason for that ?

About the CS issue: I have a PN58B860 too. I've never noticed that kind of blurry, only that "bug" thing, which turns de image lighter. So, I think it may be related to the material. Have you experienced the same issue with other films?

About the flicker when the screen is all black, I guess it is due to that stupid new feature, which turns off the painel when it's all black.

What Samsung TV do you have that you are have this brightness scene pops with????

I Have a PN60E8000 i watched the hockey game and i'm not getting any brightness pops.

I'm not tryinging to be funny either, just like i read a reveiwer say that all of them BUZZ, i have no BUZZ whatsoever!

I would tell you if this stuff was happening to me. I watched the game in Standard Picture Mode on my SAMSUNG TV. Chad was saying that on a PANASONIC that the standard picture mode is the worst mode to use for watching hockey on a PANASONIC.

My PN60E8000 just arrived; after it hits room temperature and I get it setup, I'll post in this thread regarding hum, brightness pops, and hopefully the answers to the remaining questions I had from the thread earlier.

I'm encouraged by bargervais' comments. Hopefully my experience matches his (or hers, as the case may be).

Gentle people , my new PN51E7000 is really nice!!! No problems of any kind. No buzz, no pops, all is most excellent. A very happy camper after 60+ hours of semi reasonable Time Warner digital and analog signals without a set top box, excellent with DirecTV, and 1080p apple TV.

hello .... any Canadians on here? ... i'm having trouble pairing my set top box (Shaw Motorolla DCT) to the smart remote / tv ... any help would be appreciated.

I have the PN64E8000.

My set top box is on HDMI3 and when i tried to follow all the directions to pair with the smart remote, it tells me that my "source" is on TV and does not connect to HDMI3 ... so basically the remote works on "TV Source" but not on my set top box that it is connected to ... what am i doing wrong here?

yes i hope yours turns out to be a good experience, i got mine from amazon they delivered unpacked it put it on its stand and put it where i wanted it. i didn't have to wait for it to adjust to the temperature as i live in Florida, and we have had no winter.
i have direct TV, the TV has great resolution and color. so enjoy. let us know if you need any help

PS i didn't mess with the voice or gesture stuff yet im just getting use to the set itself messing around with calibration

my set up
directv going into my onkyo 7.1 receiver with a high speed hdmi cable
panasoinc 3d blu ray player (because it has amazon prime APP) going into my onkyo receiver with a high speed hdmi cable
my computer going into my onkyo receiver with a high speed hdmi cable
then its going from my receiver to my pn60e8000 to hdmi2 arc input with ahigh speed hdmi cable

Just did a side by side comparison of the 50'' GT50 and the 51'' E8000 in a Magnolia room (by eye only). It was a good (controlled light) setting and the very helpful BB guy helped me tune in some good settings on both TV's. We looked at lots of different content. Both sets have great PQ.

BUT...

I found that the black level was noticeably better on GT than E8000 on dark scene's and black bars. Black bars were just slightly a bit gray on E8000. While black bars basicaly blended in with border on the GT50.

This tells me that if you are in the market for a 50''/51'' size TV, and great black level is your main goal, go with the GT.

I have noticed the larger size Samsung models have much better black levels than the 51''. Although even on the 51" E8000 the black level is good enough that it does not detract from the tv producing a great picture (IMO). I would just say the GT is a standout in this area.

BTW... We tested hockey as well. The 51''E8000 had fluctuating brightness (same as mine at home). The BB dude noticed it as well. The 50'' GT50 did not have any noticeable fluctuations.

How does the black levels and PQ of the E8000 64" compare to the VT30 65"?

isn't VT 30 Last years model are you asking because that's what you have now???? i think that was answered by Chad i think this years Samsung has better black or are you asking because you may want a new set or just want to feel good about what you have?

Dude... sorry, I am in a quandary
I had to return my VT30 so I am free to choose a new set.
I can get another VT30, but I did have issues with the sensor and the IR transmitter blocked.
The E8000 looked great, but I am worried about the caps / reliability issue. But from Chad's report, the GT seems significantly better?

The VT 50 is way too far away here. And we don't get the GT in 65", plus the ETA is late May or June...

Sorry man i wasn't clear on what your question was so you have a quandary i have a pn60e8000 and love it the blacks are great plus it has the evolution kit slot for future upgrades.

watteF, I watch a lot of hockey and want a big screen thats affordable. I thought I could get a fairly cheap Samsung with slightly worse blacklevel, but I can't stand fbr I believe. I think I have to wait and see and re-evaluate. Thx a lot for the info though. Very helpful.

Buying a TV is more complicated than the TVs themselves. :-)

FYI the HDMI cable itself is not 1.3 or 1.4. Your receiver might be. The HDMI cable is either high speed or standard. HDMI general faq here http://www.hdmi.org/learningcenter/faq.aspx

Yeah it has the CS issue on many blu-rays.

I wonder if the Panasonic GT50 flickers also. The flicker issue is annoying enough that I am thinking of returning my PN64E8000.

First two PN64E8000's were major buzzers. Brought the third one today to see if it was any better than the other two. Result: 0 for F'ING 3.
