Surprise! Another bad Toshiba - recommendations?

A little vid of a problem I am having with a Toshiba 52RV535U LCD tv. Turn on the tv and we see predominantly red/orange/yellow vertical lines for several minutes. after this time, we turn the tv off and back on; sometimes it is long enough (tv has warmed up?) and we get a clearer screen. Other times we have to wait a little longer. Anyway, we get a clearer screen, but the picture is still very dark, especially on the right side. There is also a ghosting issue, also typically on the right side. If the scene is dark, it's almost as if the tv is off, you can't seen anything. Sound is fine. Any suggestions as to what it might be would be most welcomed. Otherwise, this POS has become a $1200 target this Spring. TV is only 3 years old; this has been happening on and off since it was barely out of warranty. No way a tv should be doing this at such a young age

Your description indicates that the LCD panel screen itself is likely to be defective. This one is a Samsung-made, and it's a very common problem. Samsung TVs also have this issue, not just Toshiba alone, since they use the same screen.

sounds like a bad panel. if it was me, i'd call toshiba and demand some kind of OOW assistance because it's a really raw deal for you to have 3 year old TV **** the bed like that. just try to be as polite as possible about it, though.

Quite a number of people have this same issue as you're having right now, so you're not alone. Samsung may look good, but many people don't realize that Samsung is never known for reliability.

Strangely the past two days the picture has been fine, after a little warming up. I'm afraid to turn it off now

It's most likely surface-mount capacitors issue inside the LCD panel screen manufactured by Samsung for Toshiba. When they dry up, more warm-up time is required, and they will eventually cease to function shortly in the future.
