What should I get instead of the Kef iQ90 can't find center!

So my wife ordered a pair of Kef iQ90's and I can not find a center iQ60C anywhere. I was considering using an iQ30 as a center, but not really fond of the idea. I really want a center channel, and don't want to run a phantom center.

So I am on the fence about returning them to Vanns and ordering something else. I was considering Enery RC-70 with an Energy RC-LCR. Or maybe the RC-50's with the center and add some V mini's to replace my sorrounds at one time.

The center thing is really going to bother me.

Looking to spend south of $1500. I have a capable sub but want towers to avoid speaker stands up front. Viewing distance is about 12-13 ft.

Am I crazy? Any suggestions?

Thanks

You don't have to match the front 3. The center speaker is always going to sound different than the fronts simply due to different speaker layout. Just because the woofers and tweeters are the same or are similar doesn't mean every speaker that uses the same components will sound the same.

I would keep the iq90's and find a good center from another manufacturer. A good pair of fronts and a good center will sound better than a mediocre matching set.

Thanks for the input. What center then would you recommend?

I have always believed the center should be matched to the L / R.

KidHorn..... I'm not going to argue with you cuz to each is own. But I would never run a center from a different company, I am a firm believer of keeping the front 3 as close to identical as possible and keeping them from same company and model line.

Havok305...... I understand totally that you don't run a phantom center as I am the same way. However lets say you find someone that carries the iQ60c but its sold out and it will be on back order for 2 months or so I would say run phantom center until you can get it. If you know you can't get it anywhere then maybe you could get the iQ30 or iQ10 and lay it on its side for a center speaker if height is an issue.... if height isn't an issue get the iQ30 and use it vertically (it will probably sound better that way than using an actual center). OR you could look at a whole new brand like the Energy RC series.

What's the name of the dedicated center for your those KEFs ?

Is it that you can find the specific one or you can't find and KEF cntr at all?

The center is discontinued, it is a Kef iQ60C. I found a retailer in the UK that has it. Leaning more towards a iQ30 bookshelf as a center, I have always heard about matching the front 3, but I am not expert. I definitely can not use the iQ90 as a center.

Would a Kef Q200c work? Same tweater, although woofers are different sizes and different types.

Still on the fence. Good conversation keep it coming.

From my personal experience having matching front L R C speakers makes a big difference. I have the older iq7 towers with the matching iq6c center and sounds great. You can find the older iq6c centers online and will work fine with what you need.

Hi Everyone,
Classic iQ Series has not been discounted, we just slowed down production. We will have iQ60c in stock by the end of the month along with a few other iQ Classic speakers. I hope this information helps.

Sincerely,

KEF America

It truly does. Thank you very much. Many of the retailers I contacted said they were discontinued.

I shot E-mails and made some phone calls to many companies this morning. I did run accross these guys but they have not responded. Thanks.

Thanks everyone for assistance. I'll wait on the iQ60c.

Hi,
Elistinka is not an authorized KEF Retailer and you may not get your KEF warranty. To see who is an Authoized KEF Retailer and to make sure you have the Full 5 Year KEF warranty please see the full list here.

Sincerely,

KEF America

I would get in touch with a dealer and let them know what is going on and have them put in an order for the iQ60 so you are first in line.

Either that or you could go to KEF Direct and e-mail them to make arrangements.

Very nice speakers. I have the iQ9 in my den.

I think it would probably timbre match well enough if not just fine. But if you go this route I would get the Q600c.

Why are you not fond of this idea?

The absolute best option would be another iQ90 (if you have the space).

For second best, it would be a toss-up between an iQ60c and an iQ30.

Personal reference. I just wanted a center channel instead of a bookshelf. I have a stand and have no room for a 3rd tower.

In a pinch i would have done an iQ30.

@Comms

There are no pre-orders, but sales said they are getting plenty in and I will be notified.

FYI- The center is now in stock as promised @ KEFdirect. Sales sent me the E-mail notification as requested, and I just placed my order.

Thanks KEFAmerica
