5.1+2.0?

I'm looking into a new project for the home. Originally I'd planned on adding a center, sub, and two rears to my current 2.0 setup and really get the place booming. Then it occurred to me while looking for an ipod dock for the patio, I might be able to instead run some wire and plop a couple in ground units out there. Oddly enough the first receiver I looked into for a replacement to my current one seems to contain everything I need. The Denon 1912 has an ipod hookup, 7.1 channels, and something called Zone 2 setup which allows people to play different sources on different channels, which would be ideal. The other stipulation I had was being able to control the system from anywhere in the house. Again it looks like the 1912 has some sort of feature built in for this as well? Should I be looking in a different direction? Are in ground speakers worthwhile or is there a decent $200/pair of all weathers I should look at? I'm not sure how I'm going to wire everything yet but more than likely I'll have to get in the attic and fish some cable through the walls to the back yard.

P.S.- If I want to make it 7.1 in the living room at some point I'm going to run into a problem? Should I get a dedicated receiver for the outdoor speakers?

If you have a 7.1 receiver with 2.0 for zone 2. It does this: with only zone 1 playing you will get 7.1 sound in your living room, with zones 1 & 2 playing you will get 5.1 in your living room and 2.0 in your patio, with only zone 2 playing you will get 2.0 in the patio.

So no you will not run into a problem if you want to upgrade your living room to 7.1. Its just you can't get 7.1 and 2.0 at the same time, UNLESS you buy a 9.1 receiver.

I don't know the specifics of that AVR. However, some AVRs with 7.1 and 2.0 for Zone two, achieve the 2.0 by sucking 2 channels form the 7.1, making it 5.1 with zone two active.

So, with that said, you want to find an AVR that has 7.1 discreet plus 2 channels for Zone 2. That way, you would achieve what you are looking for.

And I think it's a good way to go.

Also make sure that whatever AVR you get, includes both IR and RF remote capabilities as well as iPod control capabilities.
