Just picked up my PN60E6500. this afternoon. Dam!. This baby rocks. Revisited Dark Knight. Does this television make movies better???.

Will be revisiting my entire movie collection.

No problems so far. Fingers crossed. And not calibrated yet. So far very pleased. I may never leave home again.........laughter.

Since my graphic driver is the Intel 2000 there is a check box in the driver settings for "dynamic contrast". I am going to un check that box tonight and see if it fixes the problem which apparently it does.

Confirmed that it indeed did fix the problem. biggrin.gif

Alan, when you view a completely white screen how is the uniformity of the panel ? I ask because I went through two E6500 and both of them had a very faint pink almost redish tint in the center, left and far right areas of the screen. Also noticed a bit of whats been called " dirty screen effect" on the replacement when the TV would do fast panning during a light background scene.

Thank again for your time.

With a good upconverting dvd player you should be fine. Samsungs have good processing to boot.

Both great sets imo, Panny has a slight edge in blacks, Samsung has the edge for non hd material from what I have read. Also Samsungs seem to be more resistent to IR this year. I'm a "Panny" guy but have owned Samsungs and think both companies produce quality plasmas.

It might come down to a "In stock" kinda thing for me. I want to buy from Best Buy because of the warranty program and its cost but BB cant keep the Panny in stock long enough for me to order it. They don't even carry the Samsung so I might have to go to Amazon if I choice that one.

Just ordered a calibration package from Spectracal. Calman 5 with X-rite colorimeter.

This display already has a great picture. It will interesting to see how much improvement after the ISF calibration.

Owners of the Samsung PNXXE6500, can you please let me know if on a completely white screen if you see any faint pink or red tint ? Any spots, etc ? Or is your screen completely white with perfect uniformity ?

Please let me know because I got a 2nd replacement today and its still showing faint red tint on a white screen in certain areas. At times the tint will come through in pictures, like snow scenes, clouds etc.

Look forward to hearing from everyone on this issue, thanks again

This can happen if the contrast is set too high. Have you set brightness and contrast controls using calibration disks? Try turning down the contrast a bit to see if it goes away.
I am very interested in this because last week I purchased a panasonic tc-p60st50.
I was disappointed to find that there is a green tint to any white or gray screen when I was running calibration slides. Then after seeing it I started noticing it on commercials and blue ray menus. There is much discussion on this subject and I have been told that it might go away.

Here is the pic:
Now, not seen in this picture, I have also noticed a dark band about 4 pixels wide developing on the right side of the screen which can be noticed if you turn down the contrast (if contrast is high you cant see it).
I am continuing to aggressively "age" the panel to see if these problems get better or go away. I already called Best Buy and scheduled a pickup for return this Friday. Unless the problems go away by then I am returning this set.

I still want a plasma and this set is the direct competitor to the Panasonic I bought. I was hoping that Samsung plasmas had less "lottery" to them and were more of a sure bet on getting a good one.

If there are uniformity issues with the Samsung as well then it will affect my decision on which whether I try another Panasonic or switch over to Samsung.

Your input would be appreciated.

bearz is the only report I remember seeing of this happening....Jsut like with the ST, you may just have had bad luck......most ST owners dont ahve the issues you have had either......
What really sucks and I cant understand is you can not get this set from Best Buy.com Nor in the local B&M or HH Gregg. Crutchfield and Amazon seems the only place. The bad thing to me in doing that, is I want to buy the extended warranty from BB/Gregg. Iv heard bad things about square trade.

I've noticed this effect on a PN51E550 after turning contrast and brightness way up. It never did it before adjusting those levels so high.
I just set it at movie mode - I dropped the contrast and brightness and the faint red tint still appear as vertical slashes on the screen. Went through 3 PN60E6500's and all of them had this issue. 1st set was noticeable, 2nd was very noticeable, 3rd is noticeable but less than previous sets.

Like I said only noticeable on a white background like ice, snow or white slide.

I believe BB (B&M) you an get it, but they ahve to order it. There were reports earlier that the BB site didnt have it up in error and they were "working" on it......There are other online retailers that have it however....IMO most dealers dont want to deal with "middle" as people tend to gravitate to either the higher end (7000/8000) or the lower end E550 and below......

What Iw ould really like is the 64" of this model that they put on promotional material when these new models were 1st announced. I just dont know if 60" is goign to cut it for me...

I had my heart set on the 60ST50 but I am now shifting towards the 6500 for the free glass's and the apps and other things. No if I just find in in Novemeber when I have the money.

Not saying your not having this issue ,but isnt it odd that there isnt more reports of this happening if you got three sets in a roll doing it? Did you get all three from the same store?
I got them from amazon.com - thats why I was asking cuz it did seem odd that nobody had this issue. Maybe they sell B Grade Panels as New ?
I would hope not. If I have to order fro the net maybe ill try Crutchfiled.
If your looking for the 60" try Abt electronics. They have it on sale and they almostalways do free delivery.

Cheers

Had Samsung replace the panel - no more red tint problem but the new panel ( build date Sept.2012) buzzes like crazy.

After 3 returns and replacements. and after 1 panel replacement from Samsung I am giving up on this TV and Samsung in general. Can not believe how terrible quality control is for this company that all of their E6500 plasma's buzz and/or have red tint issues.

Thanks everyone for your help and good luck to all you owners.

Thank you for sharing your story, It has made me think twice on buying this set. Do you know what you will go for to replace it? Really my ONLY two choices are this set and the 60ST50 Panasonic.

At this time I think I am going to wait until next years models come out - The image retention issues with this years Panasonic plasmas is a major flaw imho.

If Samsung can't fix this buzzing issue after 4 years of consumer complaints and continues to use cheap capacitor I have no faith this issue will be fixed in 2013.

TO say "all" is inacurate, the ones you had did, but for the large part as you can see rom replies and posts here MOST do not....Thats like saying all Panasonics have IR problems, where there are a large number of owners who dont have the issue......Next yar will be another set of problems, so its jsut a matter of deciding what you are willing to deal with no matter what TV you get.....

Well the Best Buy delivery service just picked up my 60 ST that I am returning due to the big green tint in the middle of screen on any white or grey scene and a dark line that appeared on right side of screen after about 75 hours of running test slides and watching it.

For what its worth when the delivery guys showed up to get it they said they needed to inspect the TV for damage before accepting it. They did not turn the TV on but they did unbox it and take it out in the sunlight and looked over every square inch of it especially the screen. Both of the guys were pretty quick to remark that something was indeed wrong with my screen (remember they did not even turn it on). They said the center looked cloudy and miscolored. I asked them if they were serious and the reassured me that the look at screens all the time and that mine did not look normal.

So I feel better about sending it back now after going back and fourth on whether or not I should have just kept it and hoped the problem would dissipate (as some have said it could).

Will be making another purchase this weekend. It will either be another 60 ST or the Samsung 60 E6500, not sure which one to try just yet.

Here is a very "Novice" question, Do you guys think all the IR and tint issues could be a '60 size issue or is this same thing effecting the 51' size too?

My 51" doesn't have any of these issues, and no buzz either. 100% happy with it. Maybe I just got lucky, I don't know. FWIW, I ordered from Crutchfield.
