To pick a nit, Lion King and Beast were completed in the digital realm (inked and colored on Disney's proprietary CAPS system) and printed to film for final delivery. They were digital to digital when brought to DVD and Blu-ray.

Movies like Sleeping Beauty and Lady and the Tramp however are good examples of what you're referring to.

All three movies dropped to $22.99 on amazon. Waiting to see if amazon honors the pre order guarentee since my order already shipped...

Update, seems everyone has all three movies listed at this price.

I just pre-ordered from Amazon when it hit $22.99 -- plus they give you the $8 off if you order another Ghibli BD, so I have WHISPERS on the way too.

I may be calling Amazon customer service then...

Gave them a quick call and even though I ordered them seperately I should get the $8 credit since they were pre orders.

I take it Disney isn't releasing a coupon for Arrietty? I miss the days of getting Ponyo & Nausicaa for 14.99 each.

No worky for me. Perhaps because I'm getting the Prime free shipping?

Try this link, select ARRIETY and the other that you want and you should see the $8 credited in your cart...

As I understand it, there is no coupon to download. Disney has included a "$8 off" sticker on the package that can be used in-store if you buy a second Ghibli title -- which is why Amazon is offering the same deal online.

That did it, thanks!

Best Buy is also doing the $8 discount through their online ordering system. I'm not sure if it will be present with in-store purchases on Tuesday.

My copies were just delivered! Watching Whisper right now.

Update, watching Castle now, both are remastered beautifully. The Castle dub is once again altered from the previous 2 releases. The music from the first dvd is present with the voices from the gold box release so far.

Whisper was unaltered from what I could tell.

I got screwed by the Amazon pre-order. Here is their response to my inquiry:

Quote:

Hello,

I am so sorry to hear about the price drop on "Castle in the Sky (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo)" and "The Secret World of Arrietty". I'm sure it's disappointing to see the lower price on the you recently purchased. I checked & found that the price you paid when your order shipped on May 19, 2012 was the lowest price we were able to offer at the time.

We do spend considerable effort to ensure our prices are the lowest in the marketplace at any time. Because the marketplace is constantly changing and we strive to offer the lowest price, you'll see some fluctuations in our prices over time. The price and availability of the items offered on our website are subject to change.

But Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, software, or video game, the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.com between the time you placed your order and the release date.

If the price changes before the item ships, you'll see the updated price in Your Account. If the price changes after your shipment is already being prepared, you'll receive a refund within 24 - 48 hours of the release date. Our Pre-Order Price Guarantee doesn't apply to items (or prices) offered by other sellers on our site.

I wish there was a way I can solve this problem by just giving the refund for the difference amount. Unfortunately, as you already know that we do not have a post-order price guarantee, I will not able to meet your expectation in this case. You can visit our pricing policies in our Help pages to read more:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...?nodeId=468502

In addition to our large selection, one of the benefits we try very hard to offer our customers is convenience. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience you experienced in this case.

Although prices fluctuate, our service does not. I hope you'll give us another opportunity to serve you in the future.

Thank you for your inquiry. Did I solve your problem?

I think I may just re-order at the current price, and return my original order. Lame that I would need to do that.

Call them, if they refuse to honor their preorder price guarentee (good until the end of the release date) then take to their forums complaining. Get enough attention and they will fix it.

Like they said, it could take 2 days after release to update it, so give it until then before going off. (I'm in the same boat as you)

Good idea. I'll give it a couple days to see if it corrects. I would understand their point, if the price change wasn't on the stinking release day...

The price dropped right after they shipped all the preorders. That $8 offer went into effect the same day. I already had a CS agent confirm that I get all of the price drops and the $8 offer so I'm waiting until the 25th to call if I don't get it all.

Howl's Moving Castle has been announced for Blu-Ray release in the UK from Studio Canal for June 25 so you can probably expect a Disney release in North America within a couple of months of that date.

To give you further ammunition in your conversations with them, I ordered this stuff yesterday morning, and the pages for Whisper, Castle and Arriety all still said "preorder", I got the new pricing and $8 off, plus it shipped yesterday evening and we received it today.

Also, I have been in the exact same situation as you on a previous BD preorder, and they gave us the better pricing with no questions asked.

Looks like none of these releases are up to scratch.

You either have to put up with DNRed transfers from Optimum or dub-titles from Disney.

Is it really so hard to do a release right???

Or you could do what I am doing and learn Japanese and never worry about subtitles again. (because even the best subtitles alter the meaning of the original dub)

Which would be easier - for me to learn an entirely new language or for Disney to put a proper subtitle track on a Blu-ray? Or for Optimum to leave the flippin' dials alone?

I'm perfectly happy with subtitles track that are maybe 90-95% accurate, but dubtitles tend to be maybe 30% accurate.

I remember watching Spirited Away with dubtitles after watching it with proper subtitles and it was like they changed the entire plot.

There's really no excuse in this day and age.

Disneys Arrietty and Whisper Of The Heart Blu-ray have proper subs. Ditto for Ponyo & Nausicaa. Only Castle In The Sky has dub-titles.

Arrietty and Whisper Of The Heart are perfect discs. And If it weren't for the english-only opening titles on Nausicaa (Which is only a minor gripe) I'd say that disc was perfect too.

Got emails for every refund but the $8 one, they haven't processed them but they are confirmed. Going to call Amazon soon about the $8 credit.
Thanks for clearing that up!

I got my refund notifications as well. All's well that ends well.
