EMPTek E55Ti vs Axiom M80?

Now I know there isnt much love for axiom on this site anymore but heres my situation. I already currently own the M80s along with the VP150 for I think about 8yrs now. I do like the M80s, sometimes feel a bit to bright but have good wide sound stage and good dynamics. The problem is the crap VP150 its terrible and listing off axis ( which is what happens most of the time now that I have kids and play with them on the floor ) makes it that much worse.

So I want a new center channel. I could do the VP160 as it looks like its actually designed right but it wont match my M80s as I have light maple and it doesnt look like they use that finish anymore. If I went with something like the EMPtek center then I would like my fronts to match but I want to know how they would compare.

Audioholics did a $1k tower shoot out Aug 2010. The EMP E55 performed well against the M60 both had their strenghts and weakness. But Axiom doesn't let anyone in the audio reviews do a comparison of their products to something else. Don't know many that have demoed both EMP E55s and M80s.

I went from Axiom VP150 to the Arx A2 center and thats been the best decision I've every made. Arx cost less than half the price of the Axiom and outperforms in by a wide margin.

Are you sure they don't offer light maple in their custom section they'd likely be able to give you a close match if you opt for the vp160...

Call them...

So you want to keep the M80's but get an EmpTek center? If that is the case, then I would do as the above poster mentioned and give Axiom a call.

Or you can just by into the same hype that drove you to buy axiom in the first place, and by a BOSE center channel.. cause they must he the best, cause they say so..

Sarcasm aside, any decent center is going to blow away your vp150.. klipsch, energy, pretty much any company that you hear about hear at avs, is going to outperform those axioms.

Don't feel bad about making a mistake, only feel bad if you don't learn from it.....

Axiom still has Light Maple vinyl, but its an extra $50 for the VP160 and they did change up the vinyl a few years ago, i believe it doesn't have the texture of the older vinyl its more flat with less detail. There are members on Axiom forum that has the VP160 with the M80 and seem to really mix well. I would only get the VP160 if your going to stay with Axiom, the VP180 has the same problems that plague the VP150, off axis is really bad.

Agreed with VP180. If your sticking with Axiom, the VP160 is the only way to go.

Well I had been thinking of getting the big emptek center so my though was to sell all my axiom stuff and get the large emptek towers which is why I was trying to compare them to the M80s as I wouldnt want it to be a down grade, sidegrade I could live with because there so good looking and while I use to not care about asthetics ( my sub is a LLT DIY 12cf beast thats just raw mdf in the corner ) having a wife now and looking at buying a home, I want to have a nice looking space as well.

That being said Ill just keep the M80s a while longer and just picked up a Boston Acoustics VS325C from vanns to replace the vp150. I figure if im not going to replace everything I might as well get a center that fits nicely in the space in front of the 73" mits dlp I have like the vp150 already does.

I used to run all Boston Acoustic pro series car audio stuff back in the day and really like it plus I know the VS line people seemed to really like so imsure it will be a huge step up.

I have not heard the Axioms before so I cant tell you what I prefer but the Empteks sound really good IMO. They look amazing too!
