Surround Placement for RSS-III

Given the odd layout of my basement, the standard rectangular room layout for speakers doesn't quite work. Today I purchased some Def Tec RSS-III's and I've gotten mixed input in terms of the best placment for them. I'd really hate to spend that much money on them and it all sound like crap.

So my though was to put them in the wall (shown in pink); however today, it was suggested to me to put them in the ceiling. Looking for some more opinions/input. Ideally I'd like to see if there was a free audio room analysis program that might help.

What I'm not sure of are the effects of these speakers being BiPolar and how that might influence their placement. I.e. do they use different rules than the standard speaker layout drawings?

Looking for any suggestions.

Yeah, I could see where it'd be a problem. Generally I dislike in-ceiling installations, because they usually only "work" for a small area below them. With your situation, in-ceiling might be the only option (set them both above "Sofa"). If you could return the speakers, and purchase something that can sit on a stand on either side of "Sofa" more properly, I would consider that as well. Having the one speaker at such a dramatic angle relative to everything else is probably not going to do great things for you. If you like Definitive, something like the Mythos Gem might be worth looking at; compact, will sit on a stand, and can be placed by "Sofa" where it needs to be.

Ideally they would both go where the "top" speaker in your drawing is; across from each other (or behind the sofa). Bipoles are very commonly used as surrounds in a 5.1 or 7.1 system.
