Anyone successfully using discrete on/off IR commands with 7MC?

I first built my HTPC years ago. At the time, the only remote power codes available for it in the Harmony remote setup was a power toggle. I had an older harmony remote laying around, so I decided to set it up for my parents to use in their system, which also includes an HTPC. To my surprise, in addition to the power toggle command, the updated Harmony codes also had discrete on and off commands. I was confused, because I didn't think there was such a thing for WMC, but some googling turned up this thread. So apparently I've just been living with my head in the sand since Vista.

So I'm all excited, I'm go to set up both their system and mine with discrete on/off (because I've always hated the lack of that). But it doesn't work. Like some mentioned in that thread, both my parents' system (with a generic WMC remote and receiver) and mine (with a genuine MS WMC receiver, IIRC) don't respond to the discrete power on. Discrete off works.

Does anyone know the trick to this? I assume it's just a matter of getting the "right" IR receiver?

Do you mean discrete On and Off or discrete Wake and Sleep? Your WMC remote won't be able to turn on a PC that is powered off with a basic WMC IR receiver.

Harmony calls it discrete on/off, but it's actually discrete wake/sleep.

I added my experience to a harmony one thread on this forum and the Rosewill MCE remote will sleep/wake the Win 7 PC just fine! Apparently it has to install some drivers (eHome comes to mind) and adjust the S3 settings? when the IR receiver is detected... My experience with Harmony replicating the WAKE function is dismal but the OEM Rosewill is stellar!

Are you saying you could wake the PC using the Rosewill remote, but not the Harmony, even if you manually learned the same command from the Rosewill to the Harmony?!? I have no problem waking them with the Harmony using the TOGGLE power (wake/sleep) code. But I'd much prefer to use the discrete wake command. THAT is what isn't working.

I am using a Harmony controller and the wake/sleep button works just fine. The machine sleeps after a period of inactivity, wakes on command via the Harmony remote, and it will also wake up to record scheduled shows.

Also, if you want to have your WMC machine do the whole sleep/wake thing, I recommend: MCE Standby Tool
