Hi,

I bought the Samsung UN40ES6580F in mid-April 2012 and I didn't see a calibration thread for it within AVS Forum. Give these settings a shot. I figure it's in the same series. I have minimal experience calibrating, so I'm FAR from being an expert. My prior experience is based on my other TV (Samsung LN46A750) four years ago and it's still kicking ass. So, to start it off I decided to use the same settings from my Samsung LN46A750, copied them to the new TV and work from there. I know, you're not supposed to mix them up, because it's a different TV set, but what the hell, I did it anyway.

Considering I don't have a meter or anything like that, I think it looks pretty good, but it could probably use some improvement. I'm still fiddling with it to get that extra "pop" and skin tones right. I'm hoping some more experienced calibrators with equipment can jump on this thread and share some settings (maybe in the correct thread). I tried creating one here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1406381), but no one is showing any love there.

Thanks so much for the settings post and that helps me a lot. I am not real experienced in doing calibration either and i usually find the settings that look right from posts in the forums. I will try them and let you know how they work for my situation. Thanks again.

question... Did any of you 6500 owners debate going for the es7500 model before getting the 6500? if you did do you regret not getting the 240hz? and the motion features? I'm tore right now between the 6500 and the 7500 those extra 700 bucks for the 7500 is not standing out to me right now any give any input btw I'm buying the 60" model thanks

I asked a Home theater expert that i have trusted with my other 2 tv purchases this question: These Samsung tv's caught my eye and one is priced higher than the other UN55ES7100 and UN55ES6500. Do you have any advice on these?. I am a movie watcher and watch sports on directv and not sure which is better for me. I think the only difference is one is 120hrz and other is 240hrz. Please help!!!

His answer: Save the money and go with the UN55ES6500. You won't see that much of a difference with a 240 Hz TV. Got a great deal @ Amazon on the 6500 tv. I get it tomorrow.

Yea follow up on seeing the difference I was at bestbuy literally 5 min ago and I could not see much of a difference between the 120hz and the 240hz so I might save the 700+ and get the es6500 picture is just as clean... the bezel is the main ascetic look to them. the 6500 is a bit thicker bezel then the 7500

Hey Guys, I'm looking at the UN40EH5000&6000 as well as the UN40ES6100.
What are the main differences between these models? I was leaning towards the ES model because I like the design. What's your opinions on the models? Looking for a 40-42"

Which models have better PQ D6xxx or ES6xxx or EH6xxx? I would like to buy 55inch TV and there is a big money difference.

- Samsung UN55ES6100 is $1,579.99

- Samsung UN55D6000 is $1,259.00

- Samsung UN55EH6000 is $909.93

Any recommendations or suggestions will be welcome.

I might get this TV, BJ's has the 6550. It looks like it's the same TV. I tried the LG 47 LM7600, but coming from a Samsung Ln46B750, it's hard to take the flaws of the LG panel.

Got my UN55ES6500 from Amazon on Friday and used the tv setting posted and wow this is the best tv i have ever owned. So clear and i am loving the 3D. Amazon said it would come with (2) 3d glasses but it came with 4, so yes to that. I watched Tron in 3d and all i can say is that it was outstanding and the rest of my friends are now wanting my tv.

so many questions... did you notice and motion blur while watching tron in any of the action scenes? how was the black levels that movie is pretty dark. I know on my plasma its really dark and sometimes hard to make dark scenes. do you have this tv in a bright room? is the glare on the tv okay? im going to be pulling the trigger on this tv real soon but im going with the 60 inch or the 65 inch vizio I say at sams club this week pretty much same specs only difference is the size and the size of the bezel on the vizio is beefy compared to the sammy.

You guys should realize that this isn't a "what TV should I buy" thread -- and for that matter, the specific model which is in the subject line ("UNXXES6500") is not even mentioned in your questions about which is a better TV.

For motion Blur, very minimal blur if any. For sports I watch Spurs and Thunder game and i could barely notice any blur.

Black levels are very good and not too dark. I watched Underworld: Awakening besides Tron which is a dark movie and the black level was not blue in certain areas like my other tv's i own. Excellent black level.

Tv. located in living room i would say medium light from outside and there is very little glare.

I have always been a Sony fan and this TV blows my 40xbr4 out of the water. Had a party Sat and got so many comment how the picture was so clear and they loved the style and 3d. Hope this helps you out.

Owner of a UN55ES6500 here. Love the TV except for one major issue (which some others have reported, but strangely, others have not) is the so called "CE" dimming in the Dynamic, Standard and Natural picture modes. This dim's the backlight in nearly dark scenes (like credits, or white text on black background, stars in the sky, etc). In these examples, it dims the entire screen, leaving the credits or stars very dim. the second something else pops up, the backlight comes back on to full brightness. Its even affecting gaming since the "game mode' defaults back to standard picture mode and dark scenes in games (like Battlefield 3) get the same dim treatment.

This is NOT dynamic contrast and it is NOT the HDMI black level and it is NOT the Eco Dimming feature. This is apparently something embedded and a non-menu controllable feature. That being said - has anyone figured out how to get into the service menu and turn it off? I've been in the service menu and havent been able to find the option.

The only mode that this does not occur in is the Movie mode, which at its default is very dull and looks poor. I've made some changes based on another reviewers experimentation, but the settings leave the whites looking reddish and the colors still dull.

Suggestions? and thanks in advance.

Do some more configuration changes in the movie mode, it defaults to Warm2 color temp causing the reddish whites you saw.
Simply change the color temp setting to Warm1 or Normal if you wish to change the look of whites.
Should be able to calibrate the contrast, brightness, color, and tint to get the picture looking good in movie mode too.

Thanks for the reply. I have changed the color settings to Normal from warm and also altered the color and tint to bring the colors back, but the picture is still slightly overall dimmer than the standard mode (even with the backlight turned all the way up) and the color is still slightly more warm than i'd like it. My TV is in a somewhat bright environment, so thats another reason why i'd like to be able to disable the dimming feature of the Standard option. Also, like i mentioned before, the Game mode still defaults to Standard when turned on (and many games are unplayable in Movie due to the extra processing going on adding to input lag)

Just short of dropping coin on a professional calibration, not sure what else to do besides learning how to get into the service menu to disable the CE dimming.

Hey guys, please i have a question about using headphones / the audio out jack on the ES6500 (they probably are the same, right ?)

What i need is to be able to get audio from the TV speakers and from the headphones at the same time, due to my father being a little deaf he liked using headphones to listen to the TV (we tested here in this old TV we have), and besides the rest of us would be able to watch it in a normal volume in the TV speakers biggrin.gif

I know this TV doesnt have a headphone jack, but i heard people can use the audio out jack to plugin the headphones, i also heard we have to change something in the TV menu for the audio to come through the audiio out jack. Question is, does the audio come out simultaneously through the speakers and the headphones, or does using the audio out jack mutes the TV speakers ?

I already have a portable amplifier for the headphones so i guess i'll be able to control the headphone volume independently (hopefully the initial audio out jack volume isnt too low).

Hopefully i can get audio from TV speakers and headphones simultaneously, but if not, can you think of any solution for what i need ?

So I purchased a Panasonic Plasma (TC60UT50) about a week ago. Loved it but the glare is horrific in my family room because I have poor light control. So I swapped it (will be delivered on Saturday) for the 60ES6500. Reading this thread has made me feel better about the purchase. I'm not a big fan of LCD (been a plasma fan) but considering the issues I'll have in this room, LED is the route I have to take. Glad to read there doesn't appear to be much motion blur, something I have ability to see occasionally. This will be a primary TV so I wanted to make the best choice for the money and this appears to be it.

Honestly, i've not seen ANY motion blur except when playing a video game with the smoothing and anti-noise features turned on. the surefire way to eliminate it is to enable the Game Mode and using that, i've not seen ANY blur, even with fast paced Battlefield 3 games wink.gif

You'll love this TV if you can get past the retarded screen dimming in the Standard/Dynamic/Natural modes.
