If I recall correctly, that issue only happens on a certain size 6500 (60" or 65"). I think it was discussed earlier in this thread, but I don't remember if there was a solution. I've never seen it on my 50".

The Amazon app which stretches 4:3 content to 16X9. This makes older shows, and especially older movies unwatchable with no way to fix the picture.
Is there something wrong with my set or is this normal, and is there a workaround I'm missing? I can't imagine why Samsung would eliminate a simple aspect adjustment from any viewing mode. Thanks for any responses.

I think the "Screen Fit" option is supposed to make everything 1:1, so you might try that.

I had the same issue on a 55" Vizio M3D550SL when watching SD content in Netflix. It made older shows and SD documentaries unwatchable, especially at that size. The Vizio had no 1:1 option I could find that worked with Netflix. I haven't tried it yet with the Samsung "Screen Fit".

So, Just got the 40es6500 today. Haven't had a new TV in this room in about uh, a DECADE. But, I have to say, moving from my 42" Panasonic Plasma EDTV, EDTV mind you, the image seems to be a bit blurry and fuzzy. Doesn't seem sharp in anyway, seems like a muddied image. Now, all I have done at this point is to adjust using some of the settings here. Thanks DAVE999Z. Those settings helped a bit, made things a bit clearer, but still the image doesn't seem, SHOCKINGLY as good as the image I had from the EDTV that only really have 480p resolution. WTW!?

I guess I'm going to have to get the calibration device out again and run through all the settings, numbers., etc..

I don't see a screen fit option available. It seems like picture size adjustment is the only picture option greyed out within Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix. It's not necessarily a deal breaker as I can watch Amazon through another source but I'm hoping this is something they can fix in software and not hardware related. In the meantime I'm sending Amazon tech asking them to not stretch 4:3 content in their app (they don't do it through other hardware sources like my LG blu-ray)

The other thing that annoyed me is seeing an old black and white film look like it was shot on TV video. But I haven't messed with the other picture settings yet so hopefully that gets better.

Screen Fit is under Menu, Picture Options or you can hit the "P. Size" button on your remote. I just tried it, and Picture Options is grayed out while watching a movie on Netflix...however, I already had it set on Screen Fit.

Are you saying HD looks poor on your new HD, as compared to SD on your old one? Doesn't sound right. What sources are you looking at?

Any word on when the new firmware update is supposed to be out?
There was just a firmware update a few weeks ago. How often do they update them?
Stay off the 1025 version,...
Image shearing is terrible,..
Am staying to 1020,...
so far the best firmware I experienced was the 1022
too bad Samsung won't update mine to that version,...
1025 works fine for me.
I have everything setup the way I want it, but for some reason, whenever there is red colored text on the screen, it's SUPER blurry. I'm talking about the letters looking like they're almost touching each other. Any idea what I might be able to tweak to resolve this?

I still haven't updated the factory firmware v.1006 on my UN40ES6580FXZA. I've downloaded version .1020 & 1025 to my PC, but I haven't install them due to not having any issues with the set. I mainly use the TV for viewing streaming content and video gaming. But, if anyone recommends me updating, please let me know why.

You should leave your TV with that firmware, people does not understand that firmware updates only fix specific issues with TV's or other devices, they never add content or improve the device (in some cases, the updates can brick the tv), and if you're not having problems and you update, you'll probably make more damage rather than "improving" your set.

Hi. I just purchased the 32 inch size. I can connect to Netflix fine, but for the web browser or other apps it always tells me unable to connect, try again later. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

You realize that "Standard" and "Movie", with the exception of the effect on CE dimming, are just preset names, right? You can turn off CE dimming and still get the "Standard" picture you like by setting your set to "Movie" and copying over the picture settings from "Standard".

That would seem to be true...but its not. Not on my old Sammy DLP, and not on the 6500. Try it. Copy all settings to Movie and then switch to default Standard...you'll see a difference.

I'm sure after all I've read that Movie is more accurate and "better". But they're not the same in my experience, even if all settings match.

I just got my Samsung UN65ES6550 from Sams. I thought there would be 2 pair of 3d glasses in the box but there was none.
Could it be that sams is selling a little cheaper because there are no glasses?
What is the most accurate settings so far?

I did do it and I'm using it now. The settings I settled on were arrived at using the THX picture tuning video and special glasses that came with my TiVo Premiere XL4. In theory, the settings are "accurate". I did it once in Standard, discovered CE dimming, then did it again in Movie.

What differences do you see when you trying copying over the settings?

Variations in manufacturing are going to make "accurate" settings different from set to set.
Early in December I bought the 65es6500. I haven't been around home too much because of the holidays. Now that I've had time with this set I've had a couple issues. When I read reviews it seemed the problems were pretty mixed and mainly about uniformity with clouding etc, which I expected. What I did not expect was the horrible vertical banding my set has. It's incredibly distracting while watching sports. I didn't notice it for the first couple of weeks when watching football games, was probably to enamored with having a new toy. When I did start to notice it at first I thought it was the reflection of our wall decorations, but we wised up pretty soon to the fact it was the tv itself. Recently we have noticed the green shadowing that I have read about in this thread. It was most apparent while watching the new spider man. It was almost embarrassing how bad it was as all of our friends sat there watching it. You don't see it much while watching bright tv shows, just normally the dark movies and dramas. So now my problem is that since we didn't look for these issues right away, I am out of my return period with amazon. The panel will have to be replaced for the banding issue and the part has been ordered. My largest concern is this green shadowing issue. Seems like no one has found a solution and it is pretty prevalent in the larger sets. I'm worried the next panel will be just as bad and I have no return option as the others who experienced the issue. Any suggestions with dealing with Samsung on this or perhaps a fix someone stumbled across on their own? I would hate to be stuck with a green tv.

Seems likely. My 46ES6580F from COSTCO came with 4 pairs of glasse. I suspect the XX in 65XX relates to such things. It also came with a Skype camera.

I don't plan to watch much 3D, though: I have a 3D BD player and one disk (Avatar) that's 3D. But since I must wear glasses to watch TV, adding more glasses is a pain, which I found when I went to the one 3D movie I've seen in a theater -- Avatar smile.gif And so far as I can tell there is virtually no broadcast 3D. But all the high-end sets available now seem to be 3D, though I expect that will change.

I've had my UN46ES6580F running since Thursday. No problems to report. I do have all the power saving features disabled. No cutouts, fringes, etc. The one oddity is that when I change sources the Anynet screen shows very briefly one time only. Maybe it's trying to tempt me with all its goodies. But I think my Panasonic BD player has more user friendly access to Netflix, Amazon streaming, etc.

Moving from a 34" Sony Tube HD set (KV-34XBR800) I'm not surprised. But fortunately I've seen none of the issues described in this thread so far. Image quality varies with the source. OTA HD looks good. Most Time-Warner HD channels are good, though movie channels vary (not a surprise). Ditto with BD disks. The best I've found from those I own is the 25th anniversary performance of Phantom of the Opera at Royal Albert Hall: That one has amazing resolution and good color accuracy. Also an improvement over the 23 inch Samsung I have in my workout room (so now I'll watch the main set more and work out less -- Hmmm!)

So next I need to find some setting/calibration recommendations for the XXES6000 line. Does anyone have a link? May be one in this thread, but I've not yet found it. I do have the Disney Wow! BD disk, but I'd rather learn from someone else's experiences.

Is this the Smart Hub Flash I see discussed up-thread?

Turned on my TV and it said smart hub update coplete. I checked the version, and it's now on 001024. Is that the new version? If so, does anyone know what issues were fixed?

I just tweeted them this: @samsungsupport where is our unxxes6500 firmware update that was promised on 12/20? This smart hub flashing is really annoying.

Here was their response: @ScottBrant Hi Scott! We haven't received any news on that yet. We'll be sure to tweet as soon as we have more info. ^Sabrina
