I just received a e-mail from Mitsubishi regard a class action lawsuit as follows concerning cap failures for V30 & V26 chassis;

Exclude Yourself: You will not receive the full benefits provided by this Settlement. This is the only option that allows you to be part of an individual lawsuit (no class action) against Mitsubishi about the facts and legal claims in this case.

If a Class Members V30 chassis or V26 chassis television experienced a failure related to the performance of the original capacitors prior to September 30, 2011, and the Class member has not yet paid to have it repaired, MDEA will provide either (i) a repair at no cost to the Class Member for parts or labor or (b) the opportunity to purchase a 2011 Mitsubishi DLP television at dealers cost. Class members who incurred charges stemming from repairs to the original capacitors between April 1, 2011 and September 30, 2011 will be reimbursed for
the reasonable expenses (parts and labor) incurred for such repairs to the extent that such repairs have not already been reimbursed.

Class members who incurred charges between April 1, 2011 and September 30, 2011 will be reimbursed for the reasonable expenses (parts and labor)

April 2011 to Sept 2011!!!! What the!!! I bought mine 11/2004

This is of no use to me. I paid to get mine fixed in 2007, 2008 and I fixed it myself in 2009. I spent Hundreds of dollars on it. I would not get anything from this.

I bet the lawyers make Millions!

The lawyers get up to $260,000, according to the settlement, which has not been approved by the court yet.

As already quoted, you can exclude yourself from the settlement and hire your own cousel to sue separately, or you can object to the settlement, in order to get reimbursed for your repairs, as instructed below.

cant we all get on the same page and write to the courts that we object to the settlement and give them the reason i.e premature lamp failures, LE failure, and all the cost associated with the sets? Im sure if we got half of the members of this forum together I think it would make a difference.

I got that letter today.
Have had the light engine replaced twice, maybe three I lost track on a now five year old 73831.

Does this settlement affect me or anyone who has a LE problem?

I also had to replace the lamp under warranty in the first few months of the tv.

I own 3 of these TV's, 2 of which I fixed in the past and one of which is broken again. My sister owns one. My parents own one, both of which I fixed for them.

If we could all get new TV's at dealer cost, this might be something to pursue. What is dealer cost though? One of mine that I fixed for the BGLOD is now having green push issues. One other has purple/green wavy lines.

My sister's just started spontaneously powering down, almost as if overheating, but not quite.

My paren'ts takes a few resets for it to come on.

Seems like this list is small.. they should have included all chassis with know issues like light engines, etc.

Thats horrible. I was thinking closer to $500-$600.00. I mean, dell sells the 73 below 1k sometimes.

I wasn't thinking anywhere near that low, but more in the 800-900 range.

That is with shipping and taxes included, still not terrible for 73".

Where did you find the quote? My set is flaking out on me now. TV resets intermittently, green light flashes and then TV comes back on after a couple of minutes.

I had lots of problems with this set from day 1 but I seemed to have developed a blinking green light issue during the inclusionary period (not the first time but it was the last.)

I have not been able to watch the TV since. I almost threw it out twice!


..and then I got the letter!

I got off the phone with "Christine" from the phone bank in Madras or Mumbai or Manilla...and got a contact ID number. While I don't know if it will get me anything, they offered me new TV's at "dealer cost."

Dealer Cost?

From mitsubishi on the phone. I agree it obviously isn't dealer cost.

While newer isn't always better, any of the new DLP's will certainly give a far superior picture to a XX525 series. It isn't even close.

Just wanted to say how fast and courteous Mitsubishi was in handling my repair. Complete electrical chassis, tv looks great again and no hassles

Not sure if they monitor these boards but JOB WELL DONE MITSUBISHI.

i always had mitsubishi never had problem before but since we got the new one five years ago it is three time we changed the lamp it is
hard to pay over and over we have the WD-65732:

Don't know if this will help but there is a settlement on lamps for that model. http://settlement.mdea.com/

If you have been getting the replacement lamps from other sources, you may not have been getting the new design lamp. Also, no matter what, you will need to replace lamps in these TVs. The lamps are not intended to be life of the TV, they are consumables just like batteries. On average 3000 to 5000 hours of use. That is 2 - 3 years at apporx 4 hours a day.

I had to purchase over6 bulbs over the length that I have had the tv and always got ripped now that I qualify to get reimbursed they are telling me I need the original receipt! Really? I have spent between $1000 &1250! I just want a bulb that works and already some of my money reimbursed its not like they don't have the records! wd-57731
