Master Reference thread

There are alot of terms floating around for issues people look for in both technologies. Terms like dithering, flashing, IR, burn-in, viewing angles, banding, ghosting, bleeding, etc. I know alot of you have been studying this for years but others like me really only research when we are in the market. I was wondering if it was possible to put together a thread that collects all issues, along with what to look for in laymens terms, as well as a file/slide/image that can be used for each to test a certain display. Then potentially you have a thumb drive to plug into a potential display to test for each? This may have been done but I didn't see it.

Was thinking it would be helpful to break it out for plasma and lcd in one thread?

In the Plasma Forum there is a Common Plasma terms and acronyms sticky, not hard to find...

You can see in there that a simple description often is not enough, lots of links. So doing a 5 minute read and you know everything there is to know ain't gonna happen.

I do agree that there should be a Common LCd terms and acronyms sticky in the LCd Forum (started by DedicatedHT

That is actually a good start. It explains in laymens terms what some of them are, but doesn't really describe what it looks like or what to look for. And the addition some file to test for it would be great for people to actually look for these things and compare models.

I am NOT qualified to put something like this together, spend enough time here, have the time, or need my name on a thread, I just think it would help folks like me. This needs to come from a calibrator or other respected member.

It should be noted that you are not the first person (and likely won't be the last) to ask for a thread like the one you have proposed.

someone should create a sticky and gradually add term by term; all the necessary info is already in this forum

perhaps owners who have a bad case of a particular issue like flashlighting for example can post some pics and provide a brief description... that way one person doesn't have to do all the work

such a thread could help those new to the site learn about the various terms used throughout the forum again and again
