HDNet Movies - Confirmation of status - Thankfully more of the same!

With the soon to occur rebranding of HDNet to AXS.TV, I decided to check if anything changed regarding the fate of HDNet Movies. An article in the New York Times at the time said "Mr. Cuban’s other channel, HDNet Movies, will remain as-is."

Mr. Cuban was nice enough to confirm today that HDNet will continue as it always has, with "no rebranding no changes".

That's a shame. No changes huh? Sure would be nice if they didn't plaster that "HDNET MOVIES KIDSCENE" logo on everything in the morning.

I was also hoping they'd turn off the DNR machine. HDNet Movies often has this weird DNR-like smeary problem which damages the picture quality. It doesn't make much sense that I've seen the same film aired in better quality on a 12 Mbps 1080i MPEG-2 Encore feed on FiOS than the 17 Mbps 1080i MPEG-2 HDNet Movies channel.

They do something weird to their masters...

Nope, never was...& the few CC systems that DID previously have it (such as the systems aquired by Insight) dropped HDNM, but kept HDNet & did move it into the Prefered tier.

Didn't know you were interested in that kind of programming. My kid is older, in college.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn HDNet Movies has a children's block every day from 6am to 1pm.

HDNet Movies pre-KidScene was one of, if not the best Channel on HDTV.

All the fims were excellent quality (story-wise) and they didn't repeat the same movies over and over again.

The film quality is still outstanding, but the quanity is lacking.

Studio Ghibli films? You're damn right I am.

There's been some good stuff on the HDNet Movies KidScene ruined by that logo. To plaster that on Ghibli movies is sacrilege.

hd net movies is my fav hd channel. each month they run classic films at high bit rates so the quality exceeds almost every other hd channel i watch

sub via dish. since dish took it out of their top 250, i pay extra for the movie package each month just so i can keep hdnet movies.
epix, sony and mgm channels aren't bad, but their attempts to include bb rentals is a joke. their rental system is so f***** up its unuseable.

we had to switch back to nf streaming.

That was actually announced after the Insight buyout. The Insight markets had HDNet & HDNet Movies, then CC decided that they would keep HDNet in the Insight markets, then in that period in 2008 decided to expand into their other markets that did not have it, due to they were in negotiations after the completion of the purchase from the Carlyle Group for the Insight markets that CC wanted, then left the remainder to other CATV providers.

If you dig through the Champaign/Decatur/Springfield IL forum, you will see this buried in there around 2006/2007.

When I say original agreement I mean the one in the link, not when Comcast acquired Insight, which was basically a grandfather deal based on Comcast honoring the previous Insight agreement with HDNet.

Regardless of the Insight markets acquired by Comcast, they and HDNet agreed to have both channels carried on Comcast systems, everywhere. At least that's what the press release said.

not on my setup with dish. hd net has better pq than any of the 3 epix channels i get.

hbo has probably the best pq, hence my comment it has better pq than almost any other channel.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is one of my all-time favorite movies and last Christmas and the Christmas before it was ruined by that logo. Why can't they just do the same occasional unobtrusive logo for kids themed programs as for everything else?

For the record, HDNet Movies is only carried by Atlantic Broadband in South Florida and in the acquired South Carolina markets.

The rest of their clusters in MD and PA do not have it (or HDNet).

Comcast seems to have a bit of an aversion to premium and premium-like movie channels, at least in the SF bay area they do. As you know, the premium channel lineups here are pathetic. Possibly they prefer to drive those viewers toward their VOD offerings instead.

Well, you could ask that same question of America's # 2 cable provider, TimeWarner Cable. Or the # 3 cable provider, Cox Communications. Neither of them carry it either, although they used to. It's like the Cable Trifecta of Shame.

HBO is softer than a puppy's belly.

EPIX is sharper than HDNet movies, IMHO. However, HDNet Movies looks more realistic in terms of color saturation.

Anyone else notice that it's been a while since HDNet Movies has premiered any newly-released movies? I'm not sure if I've seen one in 2013.

It used to be a great way to see small-scale films before they hit the theater.

Something's up over there...THE BRASS TEAPOT was scheduled for tonight (Weds.). Then, at the last minute, it was changed and replaced by JEREMIAH JOHNSON. WTF?

Yes, TWC dropped HDNet here in DFW a few years ago, but hey, I can't convince them to add NHL Network either, and we have Dallas Stars NHL team.

May just have to convert to Direct or ATT Uverse.
