Thanks for the info guys!
As I said earlier, I'm really affraid of a bad screen uniformity. I had 5 Sony LED tv in the past few months, and screen uniformity has always been an issue. I know now that there will be no flashlight effet 'cause there's no backlight with plasma. But what about ''banding''? I read somewhere yesterday that in can be an issue with some plasma sets. But the cause is different from the LED/LCD tv. I read that the the phosphor could be lit a bit more in some part of the screen or that there might be actual ''dirt'' between the glasses that can cause dirty screen effect (banding) Did anybody of you noticed something like that?
I know I'm a freak when it comes to my TV, but hey, I'm paying over 1K for something I'm watching everyday, I think I deserve a perfect time in front of it, right?
If you guys can confirm I won't see anything like that, I get the hell out of here until October 23rd (when I'll get it delivered) and get back to tell you how happy I am with it.
And by the way it's my first plasma set, sorry if my concern fits only with LED/LCD tv's!

Just updated my PN51E550. I was in the middle of Avatar 3D, ooh so purdy! Clicked on the update. The TV switched the source from the AVR from Blu-ray input to TV input through HDMI control. Update installed and the TV turned off and back on again. It changed the source on AVR back to Blu -ray automatically and the movie continued from the last point watched. Nice process all around.

I just bought a PN60E550 and have been impressed with the picture and disappointed with just 2 things. 1. the mirror-like reflection on the screen. 2. The YouTube app on the TV is terrible. I continually get an error telling me the "video cannot play" and moving to the next video in queue. If I return to the previous listing of videos, i select the same video and it plays. The buffer seems to be working part time. After the video i selected plays, it is supposed to move onto the next video in the queue. But, it just sit there and shows the rotating balls on the screen. The rewind feature doesn't work and neither does the fast forward. Pause seems to be the only button that works on the screen menu. I was hoping the firmware that got installed on the TV 2 weeks ago would result in zero problems, but this issue with YouTube is there. One more thing about that streaming from the TV... the audio and video get out of synch every now and then for a few seconds. Then one will stop, then the other, and then they're back in synch. It is frustrating as can be when you're watching TV/videos and you're having problems with a $1,300 TV that just came out of the box.

Anyone upset with the YouTube situation? Is there a workaround of solution here?

I haven't had that experience with Youtube. Someone mentioned some funny things happening at the end of programs streaming on Netflix. I have had the picture do a super zoom after the end of a selection. I had to return to the Smart Hub to get it to stop. I'd like the info button to tell me about the program I am watching on Netflix. There really should be a PIP on the remote control.

I was the one that mentioned netflix's issue. But the zoom still continues into smart hub and any and all sources.

hi,

I'm planning to buy 51" Plasma of this model and this would be my first time to buy. Does "burn-in" still a problem in Plasma TV nowadays? Does it have motion blurring effect coz I plan to use it more for gaming and watching sports?

I have noticed some image retention when still images stay around for long periods of time. Things clear up when things get moving again. The scrolling feature works well. I love playing games on this TV. Bioshock looks incredible. The 3D conversion looks sweet on Gears of War 3. The details really come through on Team Fortess 2, my personal favorite. It's a riot.

I guess it's all personal opinion cuz I think gears of war 3 in 3D is terrible on this tv but rocks on my new ST50. Never had any image retention on the sammy though, and i've had netflix paused for quite some times.

I saw the pn60e550 at a friends house. We watched a 3D movie and it was by far the best 3D experience I think I've ever had. It was much better than being in the theater. I like it so much that I bought it.

Note I have 5 other samsung flat screens: I have 3 other samsung tvs as well the samsung 55" LED (UN55D6000), samsung 51" plasma (PN51E530), an older samsung 32" 720, and 2 samsung 27" led computer monitors.

To the pn60e550, right out of the box I'm a little disappointed with the picture quality compared to my LED. The problem is the whites are too white and washed out. I've played around with the settings and can't find anything I really like, I can get the white washout under control but at the expense over other settings that I really like to have on. The standard setting and movie setting make the picture seem to yellow. The dynamic setting brightens up the display to the more realistic picture I have on my 55" LED but the whites are out of control again and the picture is grainy.

I've tried a few settings that I've seen in this thread and they seem to help, but the colors aren't any where near where I want them to be and when I turn them up, the white's are too much.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what I can do to calibrate the TV? I've probably spent 2 hours playing with settings and still have not come up with anything that I'm happy with, and when I do find something I'm happy with, the second I change the channel, those setting don't work. I've never experienced that before. With the 3D glasses on, the whites seem to be better that's because the 3D glasses are slightly tinted.

Try the temp settings. I usually put mine on cool 1 which gives it more pop on the white. This changes the accuracy though but seems to increase the contrast. This is all IMHO of course.

Next thing is give it some time between setting changes.

Definitely interested in this HDTV...

As a long time Samsung LCD/LED owner, I want to stick with this brand.

I have a Samsung HTIAB Blu-ray and 3D Glasses.

My current TV UN46D6900 is on its 2nd Replacement Panel -due to banding.

If the next panel is also defective I will request a refund/exchange for the PN51E550 from Best Buy.

I'm thinking of getting one of these. Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the base for the 51"? The Samsung site only list the TV. I have an older tv stand and im worried it will be to small.

Dljc for bright whites could try mode that darkens whites then turn bright up and contrast down until its more balanced.. I think plasmas may overblow some white more than LCD,but Plasma has its advantages.

I just bought the 64 inch model of this Tv ,sold my Panny 54 V10 bought in summer 2008. This tv actually has a better picture HD,less so on standard definition. But there's not much standard def left anyway. I am a little over 9ft from this tv, in a bedroom so lighting can be contoled. NO BUZZING what so ever,I was worried about that after reading this forum but took a shot anyway. I love the set so far. Happy to endorse the set so far:)

I just received my PN60E550 today and I'm very happy so far. But a problem, it will not allow me to switch picture mode! It stays on dynamic. I tried hdmi 1 and 2 and from apple tv 2 and my dish receiver. Any ideas? I read the whole manual and tried the esupport function.

I wonder if that's the same issue that I am having because I updated as well. I will try to reset everything

*UPDATE*
Did factory reset (Menu - Support - Self Diagnosis - Reset) and it fixed the Picture Mode issue.

Hi OptimusPrime, you mentioned you have or replaced a Samsung 58B550. with a PN60E550 I also have the same set and am considering a replacement. Compared with the 58" plasma as far as the screen glass reflection is it identical or worse than your B550? Is there anything better/worse compare with your old set. d I'd like the 2 " upgrade, but want to know if there are any other things i will notice by replacing the screen?

Actually, I bought the 60E530. The screen glass is basically the same as the B550. It is somewhat reflective, but I watch in in very dim to completely dark lighting conditions. Also, my tv is wall mounted so I do have it on a slight angle that reduces any reflection. The menu settings are pretty much the same as the B series, it honestly doesn't have too much that is different other than the eco mode. The 530 does not have 3D or any of the "smart" features of the E550 series. I was looking for a cheap replacement that would be comparable to the B550, and the E530 is just that. I would have to say that the blacks seem to be a little better with the newer model. It calibrated nicely and the colors look great.

There are some people that have questioned the pentile screen with the 60" models this year. I do not have any problem with it.

Anyone know anything about what Samsung calls Red Diffusion? I have a 2010 model Samsung C450 (720P 50") and it's started getting red dots along the right side and some in the middle of the screen as well. They are only noticeable when the screen is all black. From looking online it appears to be what Samsung calls red diffusion. They claim the fix is a simple firmware upgrade. Does anyone have any experience with this? I guess it has something to do with a voltage change.

Also I've never upgraded my firmware (if it ain't broke, lol). Anyway when I do upgrade my firmware will I lose all my saved settings (color, contrast, brightness, etc) or does all that stuff remain?

I just don't want to screw anything up.

Yeah.. Careful with that firmware update listedguru. It's a crapshoot. I did mine same model and it turned the few dots to a few million dots. Samsung had to replace my tv with a new screen. About 7 months later.. Exact same issue .. So they replaced it with a new pn51e550 the day before my warrenty expired. So where your warrenty is out unless you have an extended somewhere.. I'm not sure I'd do that update its really 50/50 I think. Until its unbearable to watch at least.

I believe it is a voltage issue. It will slowly get worse over time...and bleed thru to the white. Sorry. The panels made in Mexico are the problem panels is my understanding.

Has anyone done the 1023 update? For some reason I only have dynamic mode after the update? Is there a shop mode or something it might have threw me in. And anyway to fix it?

Nvm.. Just read the posts above I somehow missed. But I'll leave this post as a warning.. cause there might be a problem with the firmware so others may want to wait to 1024.
